BioWare's RPG Dragon Age could still be over a year away from release, according to the dev's new owner EA.
In the financial conference call yesterday, the publisher pegged the game for its fiscal 2009 year, which runs from April '08 through to March '09.
Still, we're crossing fingers for sooner rather than later.
Dragon Age is BioWare's first PC-exclusive RPG in AGES.
It's set in the world of Ferelden, which has been created by BioWare and custom-written to emphasise the bleakness of existence. In the world of Dragon Age, magic is dangerous and weird, magic users feared, and the consequences of great spells still being felt by a downtrodden and broken populace. Gone are the D&D cliches: the flick-of-a-wrist fireball, the saving throw. In comes inter-species tension, religious hatred, and good old fashioned betrayal.
Genre clichés are being wholeheartedly abandoned. Fights, while still viewed from above, don't rely on the usual crit rolls and queued spells of your favourite RPGs. It's as much about tactical use of the environment as it as about the size of your sword.
Tis b******s this really. Love Bioware but C'mon they announce the game early to still show a commitment to PC RPG's and then it takes 10 trillion years to come out whilst they continue to focus on starting & finishing console etc games. Just come clean, even now there's sod all detail on this game and if you go on the bioware site all you'll really find is a forum. Wouldn't be surprised if it's far longer than 2 years till we see this game but don't worry Bioware are still commited to the PC market... i just thank christ i bought a console or i'd have died of boredom waiting for their commitment.
