Episode Two made fans cry, says Valve

Were you one of "quite a few" fans that blubbed into a hanky at the end?
Half-Life 2: Episode Two's emotional final scene was powerful enough to cause fans to shed a tear, according to Valve.

"Quite a few fans wrote to say that we broke the blubbering barrier. They wept", Half-Life story scribe Marc Laidlaw has revealed to PC Zone magazine.

(Potential spoiler alert...)

Laidlaw explained that he wrote as good a script as he possibly could for Episode Two's climax. But Merle Dandridge who voices Alyx Vance took it to a new level when they went into the recording studio.

"The most powerful bit at the end was her improvisation; I just transcribed it", he continued.

"Merle's raw performance could make people choke".

Laidlaw was speaking in an interview appearing in an Orange Box feature in PC Zone issue #191, part one which you can read on this site right now.

No.

Are you sure they didn't mis-interpret why they were crying? Maybe they were crying about the fact that Episode 3 won't be out for ages!

All masculine insecurity aside, the ending did push me close to tears.

I didn't cry technically, but wasn't a million miles away.
There are just powerful factors in that death.
