Putting the Mii in Mario Kart

Okay, so that didn't work but we've got info on the game's 32 tracks to make up for it
You wait for ages on some juicy info about Mario Kart Wii only to get nothing. Then, like a London bendy bus, two come at once - rolling over your feet in the process. We've now got word on how you can use your Mii in Mario Kart online.

On top of that, it's confirmed that as speculated the game features 32 tracks (16 new, 16 remakes), which include new courses "Mario Circuit, Momo Country, Kinopio Factory, DK Snowboard Cross, Coconuts Mall, Kinoko Canyon, and Luigi Circuit", an IGN translation reports.

It adds that players will be able to perform mid-air tricks on both karts and bikes, which when executed correctly will provide you with an extra speed burst when you hit the tarmac.

Mario Kart Wii supports up to 12 players, but extra info states that you'll be able to download the ghost data of other players' races and import it into the single-player game to race against.

There'll also be the option for a Mario Kart Channel on your Wii hub, which serves up both your own record lap times and a worldwide rankings board.

For the old skool, there'll also be a four-player split-screen mode. Wouldn't be Mario Kart without it, if you ask us.

If you missed the news yesterday, it appears that Mario Kart Wii will be playable via traditional control scheme in addition to using the Wii Remote, and that a beta test Nintendo Japan has advertised is rumoured to be for the game.

That is a lot of tracks! Let's hope that the quality of the layouts are good. Online mazza kart! Can't wait. Very Happy

Not bad, they kept the 4 player on one console in so I'm happy. Might even venture online.

You are announcing that you can play as Mii's today?

if you had looked to the scans you printed yesterday you would have seen a Mii in a kart

Whats the big deal with Miis? Its totaly lost on me - they are simplistic characters that look out of place in normal games.
I understand using them in Fit, Sports etc but not in normal games
mfnick on 7 Feb '08
It's just fun to be able to play as oneself, I suppose - although if my Bowser + Dry Bomber combination makes it back into this version I see no reason to use anything else.

32 tracks isn't that many - same number as MKDS, and half are rehashes. And I'm still unsure about these stunts. Here's hoping one can turn them off.

I'm with you Nick, I don't see the point in them. They look appalling.

Maybe some people like seeing really bad versions of themselves doing stuff. I can't explain it.
You can use Miis in M&S as well, but I've only done it once and that was just to see what happened.

But then I guess Nintendo figures that since they added them they should really use them for as much as possible Smile

Kids seem to love playing as their Mii. My other half's nephew and neice refuse to play M&S as anyone else.

I'm not sure about stunts either, although it means the casula lot will probably take a beating online with regularity.
