New Call of Duty game in Activision's fiscal '09

Publisher also confirms new Spidey and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance games
A new Call of Duty game is set to release during Activision's fiscal '09 year, which runs from April '08 through to March 2009.

The publisher only referred briefly to what's next from the FPS series in a financial conference call yesterday, but did add that the new game will release on PC, Xbox 360, PS3, DS, PS2 and Wii.

Activision added that the recently confirmed download content for CoD 4 will be out in Q1 of its fiscal '09 year - April to June.

On top of that, the company said that a new Spider-Man game and a new title in the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance action-RPG series will release during its fiscal '09, along with a new Tony Hawk game which is pegged for this Christmas.

Activision added that not only does the skateboarding franchise remain an important brand for the publisher, but that it's working to revamp the series. The latest Tony Hawk game lost ground to EA's Skate, you'll recall.

It went on to reveal that two new Guitar Hero games are currently planned, and that its top secret Bond game is due in fiscal '09 "in conjunction with the next movie" - so presumably it is Quantum of Solace as suspected.

Thats all good but they are going to have to go some to top COD4. They sure have their work cut out there.
wudragon on 8 Feb '08
More COD is always good, just hope that they manage to do something amazing and not disappoint.

Activision have become very EA by the looks of things. I suppose maybe they have been for a while, but it really struck me in this article.
Another Call of Duty (though that is very welcome), yet another Spider-Man game, yet another isometric Marvel-licenced figther, yet another Tony Hawk, and although it's not mentioned here Guitar Hero 4 is highly likely this year too.
I wonder how many non-sequels they have in the pipeline...

I must admit I never really CoD before Modern Warfare, it's going to have to be extra special to top it though, I just think the WWII genre has been played out so many times now and it's starting to get boring (for me anyway).

Present day warfare is the future!

So, I'm expecting everyone to hate COD5 and go crazy for the year's 'unsung' FPS hero.

Seeing the list of platforms its on has got me worried. Infinity ward are the company that make the Proper Call of duty games (1, uo, 2 and 4) and they have only ever made them for pc, 360 and ps3 properly (yes there is a DS verison of cod 4). That list looks like teh trademark of a CoD game made by activision or the other devs that made the ps2 cods and cod 3. Im a CoD fan through and through, ive owned every one and have played the series since its launch date way back when it was a pc exclusive, however, if CoD5 isnt made by Infinity Ward i simply wont bother with it.

i wonder if this will be more of a joke than finest hour, big red one or cod3! lol. ever cod game that hasnt been released for pc really does just take the p**s to a point where its just offencive to the series. a cod5 for every platform? hahahaha i wonder how the hell that will look. movie tie-ins will probably beat it.

We like reading the obvious in the videogame world....new Tony Hawk (Suprise)...new CoD (even bigger suprise, new Spiderman (Shock!!!), new Guitar Hero... oh I suppose we got James Bond this year though.

These companies are businesses at the end of the day that are out to make money first and foremost whether we like it or not. Haven't Activision signed Tony Hawk for like the next ten years or something? I agree it s great to have new I.P, along with the re-runs, but it is a big risk for these businesses to take, hence the re-runs every year.

Every year its business as usual...they cant please everybody all of the time but they must be doing something right to be pulling in all that loot????

Looking forward to playing some games as I havent even caught up with the pre Xmas releases yet.....getting old I suppose. Thank god for Xbox live demos...

Lets hope it's in another time zone again - maybe Call of Duty: Napoleonic Smile

Least it'll avoid the same old same old that they usually bring.

you do realise this means we have to pay for the new COD4 maps.

bugger

it wouldn't have been released in the budget for the 09 fiscal year if we didn't.

trust me, i'm an accountant.

think of the number of people who own the PS3 version alone of COD4. its about 600000+ and if you think they can charge a fiver for some new maps just on one format download then they've got a speculative Ł2m (considering not every owner will buy the new maps)
Slacher007 on 8 Feb '08
It'll be another game like COD3, shoved out the door to take advantage of all the goodwill generated by the previous title. Rolling Eyes

Try close to 3 million sales on PS3 and 4.5 million on x360 sales worldwide.

COD5 is to be developed by Treyarch (BRO, COD3) and is confirmed to be going back WWII...
bastard...
hallothardannybo on 8 Feb '08
Why though?!
They're had such a huge success with CoD4, they're f**king retards.

It's funny how the game made the S.A.S. look great and how it made the Americans look like idiots.

"Useless w****r..."

so we have to wait till 09 for new downloadable content for cod4 well that sucks or is it a missprint or is that i cant read lol Laughing and incase u hadnt heard the roomers cod5 is back to worl war 2 noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! ExclamationExclamationEvil or Very MadRolling Eyes and who cares about tony hawk its s**t if theres another skate out soon it will own tony hawk again Razz
steveboy32 on 9 Feb '08
sure cod4 was sweet but they are payed to make it good and i think it will
skezmyster on 9 Feb '08
Oh, another CoD game? Chalk it up on the who cares list for me. They lost me after the debacle of CoD2. Couldn't care less if CoD4 is the best thing since sliced bread. I morally object to a company that completely abandons the base that gave it it's rise to popularity for a garbage iteration (CoD3) for consoles only. Wouldn't waste your money on any game from them.
