COD 5 confirmed for Wii and DS

Sounds a bit fishy to us. *groan*
Call of Duty 4 was so good that even internet hyper-critic Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw hardly had a bad word to say about it. That all looks set to change though, as Activision has confirmed the next COD will be released on DS, PS2 and Wii.

As we reported earlier, in a financial conference call yesterday publisher Activision briefly mentioned the title would be available on all formats.

Couple this with the last effort to bring a Call of Duty game to the Wii, the rumours that COD 4 devs Infinity Ward are not involved with the project, and the extremely short development period, and you have a fantastic recipe for a sub-par port to Nintendo's consoles.

Even worse, the game is going back to The Second World War, because obviously the contemporary setting wasn't ever one of the most refreshing and interesting parts of Modern Warfare, and we all want to go back and fight the Nazis' yet again.

tell activision that we all do not want to go back to ww2,the new modern day combat is far superior than all previous games that have come before,if you are dedinatly going back then i for one will not be purchasing COD5!!!!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

I was really looking forward to CoD5 and my biggest question was "360 or Wii?" until I heard about the return to WW2. Then I sighed in disappointment and decided I wouldn't bother at all.

Am I the only one here thinking "wait and see what it's like"? You're going to feel a bit stupid going down to Game to buy it if it turns out to be the best thing since sliced bread. Chances are it will be gash, but it cracks me up when people jump on something's back the minute it's announced...
Saigy on 10 Feb '08
I think this is a good move.

Why bother making CoD5 just a developed version of CoD4? People go on and on here about how much they love it, so the devs could just continue to release downloadable content for it (new levels etc), developing that game and rather than making a CoD5 that's similar to CoD4, they go back to their old roots

Anyway, I'm also feeling abit iffy over the Wii version, but we'll just have to wait and see. It could turn out to be good.
level_up on 10 Feb '08
This sounds fishy, I'm getting fed up of certain Wii games getting the short end of the stick. Another lazily developed game for the Wii is my guess and Nintendo best get them into gear and tell them to make all developers proper games.
Samus on 10 Feb '08
I thought there was an agreement between Infinity Ward and Treyarch to take it in turns producing new titles?

Infinity did 2 (awesome), Treyarch did 3 (not so awesome), then Infinity did 4.

If Infinity aren't involved in the fifth, surely this means Treyarch will take the reigns again, deliver us a middle of the road title, and prep us all for the inevitable awesomeness that is 6 from Infinity.

Sounds alright to me.
khr0nik on 10 Feb '08
Activision can continue to kill the FoD series all they want. Im skipping this and will buy the next infinity ward CoD game, whenever that is.

The Wii has the potential to deliver amazing shoot-em-up controls, as MP3C has proven. It's unfortunate, therefore, that it gets fobbed off with the inferior ones because Nintendo is still shedding its '4 t3h k1dz' image. We only have two pieces of news on this so far, and both of them are negative. However, I'll reserve judgement for now...

By the way, I won't be buying it regardless, because I don't like FPSes. I just needed an excuse for a rant. Smile

COD3: A dull, by-the-numbers WWII FPS, from Treyarch.

COD4: A fantastic FPS, with a fantastic campaign set in the present day coupled with brilliant online, from Infinity Ward.

COD5, from Treyarch, back to WWII? Guess I'll be giving it a miss. Thanks Treyarch, for ruining a perfect chance to capitalise on COD4's success.

Thats right, why bother making a developement of COD4 when you can go back to WWII and have a developement of COD 3 instead!
I personally think they should keep it in modern times, theres so much more available I.E airstrikes and choppers etc which simply weren't available during WWII as they are today.
spooney100 on 10 Feb '08
this is just stupid, Modern Warfare was the best gmae of 2007

rather than listen to the fans, they are being stubborn and making it in WW2....idiots

so they are gonna create a crappy PS2 version then port it to Wii.......idiots

this is just the most retarded thing to happen since the end of Halo 3..... becuase master chief didn't die

Activision, if they weren't before, are now most certainly a s**te sequel factory; just like EA and other corporate monstrosities. Get used to it.

going back to ww2 is a really bad move for me the main reason is the weapons cuse in cod4 there was a noticlible diffrence between the terriorst guns ak's and rpg's that kinda stuff and the sas guns m4sopmods and javlin but ww2 all the f**king same and in the call of duty 3 the nazis could soke up to much lead and so could u!
steveboy32 on 10 Feb '08
COD3, only COD game I gave up on half way through, and yes, I finished the others. Confused

Wake me up when Infinity Ward do another. Wink
ted1138 on 10 Feb '08
Treyarch should have done a full length expansion for COD4 rather than an outright sequel; maybe a continuation on the mysterious epilouge, a chance to fight on the terrorists side giving a unique layer to the story mode, plus online update i.e. vehicles, more maps, weapons etc. AND PLEASE raise the free for all score limit!!

Infinity could return for a final epic expansion and then move onto futuristic warfare. there problem solved!
GODDAMN YOU WWII, GODAMN YOU TREYARCH!!!

Can't comment on COD3 like many of you have since I've never played it through single player (played it at a friend).

I have no problem with returning to WWII as COD, CODUO and COD2 are some of my favourite FPS games ever. If it manages to have the quality of those titles then I'm sold, if not then it can sit on the shelf with Pro Evo and Fifa 2009 for all I care Cool

We can never expect any new CoD games to ever even get close to being half as good as CoD4, regardless of who develops them. CoD4 was something special. Maybe it's time to let the series die. It can only go down hill from here and sadly, an all-format sequel isn't the way forward
Eyhren on 10 Feb '08
I don't see the big deal. CoD4 was amazing because Infinity Ward took the time to develop it while one of the smaller teams released CoD3 to keep the series going meanwhile. I imagine the same will happen with CoD5 and 6, so either way CoD5 will simply to fill in the gap between the lead games of the series, cod4 and cod6.

What I should (and meant) to say is that if it isn't being done by the makers of Cod4, then why try and make the same in 5?! Idiot. It makes sense not to have them make a rehash of 4 when did didn't even develop it - they'd end up s**tting on 4.
level_up on 10 Feb '08
To be honest i would love a World War II version of Call of Duty 4 for the pure reason most WWII games are awful, and it would be refreshing to play a really good WWII game, and even funnier because people go on about how that era has been done more than Paris Hilton, only for a good game to be released.

But, as it is not being made by the same company as CoD4 you can imagine just a crappy (ok, average) game with a sellotaped-on online and an average story that involves you playing as an American so far up his bottom he can taste Brille Cream, playing through something similar to say, CoD3.

And the fact it is on every console means they are just trying to ride on the success of Call of Duty 4 by selling as many as they can. and since it is not made for a specific system, or even systems remotely similar then it won't take full advantage of them. I mean c'mon, can you imagine a game as good as CoD4 in the same way, online, FPS, the emotion, the graphics on the Wii? Dear god, we're going back to CoD3 but with some handhelds in there too.

Lets hope Infinity Ward does CoD6 then and it lives up to the standards of 4.
almanac2015 on 10 Feb '08
It's still only rumour right now, so let's see what happens.

I guess it's possible that the rumoured CoD5 is maybe just like an expansion for CoD3, or maybe even a mod for CoD4.

With the runaway success of CoD4 I think any developer would be stupid to take a backwards step.
Dajmin on 11 Feb '08
Sounds to me like Call of Duty 5 is going to be like the first one on the consoles and Call of Duty 3, i.e. it's going to be s**t to mediocre. I mean Call of Duty 3 was so uninspired and by-the-numbers not to mention extremely buggy because it was clearly rushed out for Christmas 2006. And WWII... does anyone really want to play ANOTHER game set during that war?

Why does Activision feel the need to ruin this series by churning out yearly instalments, why not let Infinity Ward release one every couple of years? Ah yes... silly me... it's all about making a quick buck from a popular license. Shame on you, Activision.
