Does anyone else not think it's disappointing that the developers were too scared of the fans to try and make a truly next-generation addition to the franchise?
Instead it seems that we'll get what amounts to yet another remake of Street Fighter II..
With other fighting games trying so much harder to do something a little different is SFIV really worthy of our attentions?

Saying all that.. SFII kicks ass
I've kind of thought that too. SF2 is one of my all time favourite beat 'em ups but considering the wealth of fine-tuning that went into subsequent iterations of the SF concept it's a little disappointing to see all that effectively shelved for a genuine sequel.
Whereas SF3 was taking the concept to it's hardcore gaming extreme, and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 was just out and out glorious insanity, this game seems to have it's rose-tinted glasses on. It'll still be brilliant I'm sure, but I am a little bit worried that they've stripped the game back too far.

Not really. Because if it wasn't for the fans in the first place, this thing wouldn't be seeing the light of day. And once the "I'm not really into beat em ups but I used to play Street Fighter II when I was young so I'll pick it up when it's cheap" crowd pack up and leave, it'll be the fans (and hopefully tournamet players if it's any good) that carry it on for the next ten years.

Which ones though? Which fighting games are doing something different? They're all just updated graphics with slight tweaks to tune up their gameplay mechanics.

Nothing wrong with that if it works.
Well, to be honest the whole 2D fighting genre is a bit stale nowadays, but I was mainly thinking of Smash Bros. Brawl. Although the gameplay mechanics will be essentially the same, just the sheer amount of different modes/features/gameplay variations/characters will ensure that the game is the best it can possibly be whilst still sticking to the relatively rigid fighting formula.
Anyway, I'd always take innovation over nostalgia.

Brawl is exactly what I was talking about though. It's not new, the roster has been expanded and the gameplay's been tweaked a bit but that's it.
And there's nothing stale about 2D fighters at all in my, and a lot of others', opinion. They're still being tweaked to within an inch of their lives and constantly get better.
And it's nothing to do with having to choose nostalgia over innovation. For a start you can have both. And making something 3D doesn't make it innovative. They've already tried SF in 3D for the sake of 'innovation' and it was a mess. You change Street Fighter's (or any other beat em up's) core and it's not SF any more. You also risk losing the original fans and, if the game doesn't work for some reason, not gaining many new ones. What's the point in creating a totally new beat em up style and adding the SF license to it? There's more to lose than gain from doing that so you may as well do it with a new IP and cut out some of the risk.
what the hells going on with dhalism's arms in picture 11 .
I also dont know why they are putting all the old characters in it. is it SF4 of another SF2 . obviously ryu and ken will be in it .but honda , zangief and dhalism are probably my 3 least favourite characters in the whole series . that said i'll be getting it release day . ive been playing Vf5 for my fighting fix and I'm way over it now . I've never really been into it , always been a sf player .cant wait to hand out some beatings after getting regularly stomped in vf online

That's what bothers me. There were so many brilliant characters and features added to the series over the years. I'm worried it's just going to be a flashy remake of the 17 year old classic. Unless this is the start of a whole new run of spin-offs. Will Super Street Fighter 4 be coming our way in 2011 perhaps?
