EA: We'd love to bring Spore to PS3 and 360

But there's a lot of technical hurdles we need to think about, producer Thomas Vu tells CVG
EA would love to bring Will Wright's Spore to PS3 and Xbox 360, producer Thomas Vu has revealed.

"There's lots of technical hurdles we have to think about before we can say, 'Okay, we can do this or not'. But we're always looking at and thinking about these issues", Vu told us earlier this week when asked whether it's the company's intention to bring the title to the two platforms.

Spore is huge and we know there's an audience, he added when pressed further on possible PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. "Yeah, of course we'd love to do it, but at the same time we don't know".

Spore's officially been confirmed for PC, Mac, Wii and DS, and EA has just confirmed that it'll be out early September.

And you can see new screenshots here, plus keep eyes out for a new report on the game hitting the site later today.

Yeh, I think that EA have proved well enough that they are incapable of bringing Spore to consoles without it being s**te. Laughing Tell us something we don't know.

Kind of a kick in the ironic testicals that it's coming to Wii and not PS3 or 360.

Probably the controls are the problem. The wii remote is very similar to a mouse in many ways as it allows quick access to menus. The joypads are a cumbersome alternative that turns a great game into a frustrating good one.

So allow mouse support. Both consoles have USB ports, seems a simple solution to me.

Meh. The PC world can keep that one
mfnick on 13 Feb '08
They couldn't rely on mouse/keyboard support alone for a console anymore than they could rely on joypad support alone for a PC.

Why? There have been many games that come packaged with the peripheral they are designed to be played with - at extra cost. Guitar Hero, for example. Why couldn't they package Spore with a mouse and charge tenner extra to cover costs. Simple.
_Marty_ on 13 Feb '08
It sounds nice in theory, but it won't happen. If they can't make it work with a joypad, it won't come to 360/PS3.
Mogs on 13 Feb '08
It's going to be released in September according to the bbc...

No you are the joke!

Turn on your brain before posting and perhaps you would realise why it is not currently coming to 360 or PS3. The control methods that these consoles have is not right for the game. I know you can use mice with 360 and PS3 but even if they packaged them with the game, many users (including myself) would not be able to use them very well as my 360 is quite a distance from the sofa and the sofa does not have a nice mouse pad built in! My wii on the other hand would be fine as the wiimote allows very similar control to a mouse and I can use it while sitting comfortably on my sofa. They may get around this issue by adapting the controls to work on a joypad but I imagine this would be a poor substitute.

This is pretty disappointing. Spore certainly seemed like a good "couch game" to me. Don't get me wrong, I love my PC just fine. But, there are some games that are just more enjoyable on the big, HDTV, on the couch, surrounded by speakers...and this looked to be a good one.

It seems to me the only controls the game that would be of any significant difficulty with a controller would be the RTS'ish phase of the game. Any of the scenarios where you control a solo entity would work perfectly. I think we can all agree that 3rd person interaction is something the controllers do very well.

I'll still buy it. I'm sure I'll have a fine time doing the whole Spore thing...but after a long day in the office, chained to a PC, there are sure to be some grumbles on occassion.

Nothing to stop you setting up your PC with that configuration. Just need a board to put across your lap for mouse & keyboard. Job done. Wink

You're totally right...and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't considered it. But, when it comes down to it, I'm just far too lazy and cheap for all that. Smile

This, I realize, is a personal problem.

they'd better do, or else ill have to fork out for a new pc!!

I agree. I spent my "new PC money" on a Wii, PS3 and HDTV, im officially skint until my birthday.... wich conveniently is in October.

This NEEDS to come to the consoles, for my sake. NOONE wants Spore more than me!!!!
