Death Jr. 2: Root of Evil coming to Wii

Previously on PSP. What next, C64 ports?
Eidos is bringing the PSP game Death Jr. 2: Root of Evil to the Wii in Summer 2008.

Developed by Backbone Entertainment, the game charts the adventures of the Grim Reaper's son. Despite the '2' in the title, this is actually the third game in the series.

We don't like to be judgemental, but it's hard to remain calm when we see a major publisher release a game ported from a handheld that only has a Metacritic rating of 68.

It's also not a good sign that Konami, the previous distributor of the series, isn't involved with this project.

Anyway, take a look at these screens.

Wow the Wii is really surpassing what was expected of it, what with all these ports not only from PS2 games but also PSP games, and many, many mini-games. Well done Nintendo on getting 20 million people to buy a console full of games they could probably already buy anyway.

As for the game itself i didn't get this on PSP, so i won't be getting the Wii version either.

This is really getting beyond a joke now.
I appreciate the crap ports in the early stages of the console's life, but now?

They can hold this up against Mario Galaxy, MP3, Zak & Wiki and say "Yeah, our product is on a par with that", can they?

Maybe I'll start emailing every company that does this and tell them exactly how s**t they are.

"What next, C64 ports?"

I hope so. Karnov, Sabateour 2, Creatures 2 and some brilliant game where you were a cowboy trying to avoid burgers that ate you (but i can't bloody remember the name of it) would make the Wii a draw for me!

Creatures 2 is one of the best games of all time. Fact.

Hmmm Speccy, CPC, ST, Amiga and C64 games on the Virtual Console could be a boon for Euro gamers. Don't think US or Jap markets have heard of those classic formats though. Imagine having Manic Miner, Monty Mole, Laser Squad or Sentinel on the VC probaly have a longer playtime than current Wii (mini obssessed)games I reckon.

I'm in agreement with you, despite the fact I only had a 1 main level, 1 mini game level demo (that or I was too poor at the game to get any further). I remember being in awe as a 7 year old kid at watching fluffy things getting mushed into pulp on my own TV screen!

Saw a RetroGamer piece on it a coupla years ago and it all came flooding back!

PS. If anyone could help me with that burger/cowboy game I would be grateful.

PPS. Ghostbusters was also one of the best C64 games I had.

Well ,the shovelware is getting deep but this is at least a port from a genuine videogame and not a board game or such .

This will be the first generation where the most sold console has the worst games .

That actually would be the PS2. There was a ton of shovelware for that system. Granted, not ports, but a TON of crap games. The Wii and the PS2 have a lot in common (yeah yeah, go ahead and say "right down to the graphics LOLZ!!"Wink, but both systems were the most underpowered of their generation, sold the most, and had the biggest libraries. Both systems have a ton of crap games, and a few dozen AAA games. Both systems drew in the most 3rd party support, and both systems became the "cool" system to have in your house. The only difference is, the Wii is still going strong, only a bit over a year into its life. We'll be seeing some interesting stuff on the horizon for the Wii.

Thread hijack - sorry Smile

But I presume you played the demo on to Commodore Format's power pack, which included the first torture screen and the first trampoline round. There's a picture on the games wikipedia entry:

I can name many good PS2 games, i know the Wii is only young, but seriously, it isn't a patch on the PS2. The Wii is full of crap and has maybe half a dozen decent games. I don't know if it will even get better really, and the PS2 had more out in its first year i'd say that were good.

That'll be it then !I did occasionally get Commodore Format and I was going to mention something about a trampoline earlier, but couldn't remember much more about it.

I'd buy a Wii for that, but think Nintendo may have a problem with torture and murder of fluffy animals!

Ah the memories!

Yep - number 16 looks incredibly familiar:

well medal of honor heroes 2 was a psp port, and that seems to be selling quite well on the wii. i think it's a matter of whether the wii's motion controls can improve an old game or not!
