BBC news, where you'd usually read about important stuff like the war, Northern Rock and what mental state Britney Spears is in today, is this morning reporting on the red ring of death.
"Microsoft wants consumers to believe that its problems with the Xbox 360 console in terms of hardware failure are over," says the BBC, referring to the now quietened chatter over 360's alarming failure rate this time last year.
The report continues: "But wandering through the Game Developers Conference halls and it's clear that the problem persists."
After making the hilarious discovery, BBC went to the effort of recording and posting a video of the faulty console and its flashing red lights. Where were the booth babes and MS staffers though?
Yes, it's a little jab at MS, but it's more funny than it is malicious.
Luckily, the extended three-year warranty still applies, so MS can get that machine fixed for free, hopefully in time for GDC 2009.
At the very least they shoudl be making sure they have working consoles at places like this; a very bad bit of pr unless a sony or nintendo person was able to switch one in (there's enough of them around).
Wonder how many RRofD will be seen at play.com live
SHUT UP. The BBC hate Microsoft. I bet they stood around that 360 to make it overheat just to get a story. Its disgusting and you Sony fanboys are soaking up the bait.
The problem with the early batch of 360s is fixed. New 360s dont overheat. New 360s are more reliable than the PS3 which has a failure rate of nearly 10% Dont spread false rumours.

Idiot!
PS3 and Wii both are still a lot MORE reliable than Xbox 360 - Accept it!

LMAO what a fanboy! The PS3 and Wii have a failure rate of less than 3%. Also why do the BBC hate M$? Source please you crazy rabid fanboy!

Although he is clearly a fanboy, he has a point. The 360s sold before the design fix was made (and there are a lot of them) will still obviously be prone to breaking, but all the 360s built with the new design should be fine. It is just a shame that MS did not make sure they were using the newer boxes... idiots!
You'd think they'd have more sense than to let this happen in front of people.
I can only judge on my experience, and while my first 360 went south quickly, the replacement (which I think has a 65nm chip) has been flawless so far. Touch wood.
But then I know a few other people with 360s who have had no problems at all with their launch models. It seems to be pot luck.
Well I've had three Xbox 360s RROD on me and I'm now on my fifth so this news is not surprising at all but it is very funny really, somewhat ironic. I guess the failure rate has now gone up from 16.4% to 16.5%, eh?
I have to add that I think the Xbox 360 is a terrific games console, it's just very badly built. Microsoft really should have tested it properly instead of rushing it out to beat the PS3 to the market. Hopefully, they'll learn from this when they release the 360's successor in four or five years time because having a reputation for building shoddy hardware isn't going to help hardware sales.
P.S. Both the Wii and PS3 have a failure rate of less than 3% according to the same survey that claims the Xbox 360's is 16.4% (although I think that is too low myself).
My 360 died at the age of 17 months with the rrod and Microsoft fixed it and returned it in 10 days im just wondering how long it will last before it does it again? But my first PS3 had to go back cus the hdmi port didn't work, that only leaves my wii which I got on day of release and (touch wood) has had no problems.
"Luckily, the extended three-year warranty still applies, so MS can get that machine fixed for free, hopefully in time for GDC 2009."
Has to be the funniest thing I've ever read on this site. Well done that man!
I own a 360, and have had no problems with it... But at the end of the day, Microsoft is a faceless corp like the rest of them. So I'm quite happy to laugh when they make a bit of a muppet of themselves.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha UP YOURS XBOX FAN BOYS! GET A PS3 HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
My original 360 just got the RROD about a week ago, oh and this will be the 6th time im sending it in.
Around the 3rd or 4th time it got RROD i decided to get a new core pack system thinking the problems would have been sorted with the hardware, but no, even that one conked out a few months back.
Its the worse piece of Hardware (reliability wise) ive ever purchased in my life.
I've had three RROD'ed 360s but I sold my launch 360 which was returned repaired and bought another which led to me eventually swapping my fourth working machine for an HDMI model last July at GAME. That one appears to be working fine, although being an Xbox 360, that really doesn't mean much.
If the Xbox 360 had been a dishwasher or TV then I'd certainly have not bought it after the third failure, I'd have gone for another "brand", but I can't deny it's a great games machine and it has given me many hours of enjoyment compared with perhaps two weeks of inconvenience. When you look at it like that then it really is worth the hassle really and I suspect that's why it'll continue to sell even though most people are well aware of the reliability issues.

You do know 01/04/2008 is April Fools day, don't you?
All 360's going RROD on 01/04 would be a suitable joke for all the idiots who rushed out to buy a XBox 360 instead of being patient and waiting. Pretty much the same as all those idiots who went out and bought HD-DVD.
I'm a 360 owner and i have to admit it is slightly amusing.
Once my 360 dies(it currently has an issue), i'll probably jump ship to another console. Maybe the wii as it has some decent games.
I agree being a 360 owner it is quite funny, however my 360 has suffered from the RROD, so i sent it away got it back within a few days, no cost and now continuing to enjoy the great games the 360 has to offer. Dont get a Wii instead of a 360, as well as a 360 yes but not in place of. I got Mario Galaxy last year, great game but i feel the best it has to offer at the moment. I havent switched my Wii on for about 6 weeks!!

Got my 360 last June, yesterday got the 3 red lights, never shown signs of anything before. Piece of sh*t !!!
lol I read it - what do you expect in the current climate, you were threatening to blow the BBC towers up.
I'm pretty sure I didn't say anything that strong. Although I did call them liars and said Dr Who is sci-fi s**te! I also said I hate CVG - maybe that's what set the moderators off.
Sorry CVG. I should have been more clear that my tongue was placed firmly in my left cheek. I LOVE YOU REALLY! (Where the hell is that heart smiley?!)

haha what a tosser...yes the BBC reports stood around the xbox 360 and blew hot air on to it to overheat..good game..the XBOX 360 is just another f**ked up product like Windows Vista.
i still prefer my 360 to my ps3 at the moment tho, until ps3 has a 'brilliant' games library (it is 'quite good' at the moment) and they sort that abomination called PSN out, my 360 will be played more, soon as they got those 2 issues sorted ill sing their praises gladly...
funny to see all the obvious owners of just the one console slanging in here tho... keep it up guys, makes amusing reading....
So much hatred in this thread. Why don't you lot grow some balls to go with that 1/2 inch mound of flesh you call genitalia and come join the army. I know some PTI's that could channel all that wasted energy.

You sir must be a tit.
Othewise very funny article. You would think that MS would have better PR sense.
Sony have now sold 10.5M PS3 consoles, that's compared to the 11M they originally forecast for *end of March* - which was revised about 2 weeks ago to be at 9.5M. We're currently just over midway through Feb. Sony investors - take note...
In terms of unit sales, Sony's PS3 is closing the gap on Microsoft 360. Just watch that gap close further now HD-DVD is officially dead.
In terms of exclusives Sony's PS3 has bigger well-known AAA's than the 360 in 2008, which will sell more PS3 consoles.
In terms of HD media viewing, Sony has Blu-ray and Microsoft does not.
Next nail in your coffin... In game XMB and Home.
After that, we're coming for your attach rate and total number of games titles.
The 360 is about to red light and die. We welcome our Playstation overlords.
I've had both the Xbox1 and 360 and both have crapped out on my. My 360 has gone back once and my original Xbox 3 times. If my 360 goes again it will be repaired and traded for some games for my other consoles.
Needless to say I'm skipping MS the next gen. 3 year warranty or not.
Quite funny that this happened though. Now if only a PS3 stopped reading discs at the show that would make things even better
even the new falcon 360s are RROD. google it and see.
its not overheating exactly, they say the RROD is due to the constant expanding and contracting (switching it off after a session) and a component falls out!
That's insane! Somebody in the design department needs to be fired that's for sure
This is how you build a real console!
Never had to ever worry if it would break or not. Speaking of consoles, my Wii Cube port covers keep falling off. Does this happen to anyone else?
This is a f**king disgrace frankly - Microsoft should know better, PR like this must make Sony skip with joy. I dig the 360 a lot, but they are a complete joke in terms of build quality. Any other product would have had trading standards involed by now - and, touch wood, my 360 hasn't f**ked up at all. Yet.
And Lesbiana and SBolton666 - you two have to be the biggest forum t**ts I've ever come across *shakes head*
DAEDALUS79, digging the new avatar - who's the chick?
Its a bit like you lot for the last year banging on about price and XBL!
... but then its not the other way round now.
I'm not on Live, can't be bothered to get a wireless adapter for my 360 and my router is far away and I can't be bothered to put together a cable for it.

something to do with the "X-clamp".
I don't really care either way tbh. I've owned my 360 since launch with no problems whatsoever... but, that doesn't forgive the inexcusably poor reliability problems others have suffered - only the games have saved it from total oblivion, imo. However, it's still unacceptable that a product costing £299 at launch, could be released without sufficiently adequate product testing - very poor Microsoft!
Anyway, here's a crash course in 360 hardware:
Original 360 Motherboard - the heat sinks attached to the CPU and GPU were done so by clamps that warp the motherboard under high heat. This causes a portion of the GPU's underside to disconnect to the motherboard causing the 360 to get a red-ring error, and die. This is easily fixable 90% of the time; however, Microsoft ignores the problem at hand, and settles for trying to work around it, instead of fix it, which is why repaired 360s almost never stay repaired.
Zephyr - this is the motherboard now in use by all 360s in production. It has an added HDMI port, along with a secondary heat sink (see picture) for the GPU. The heat sink slows down the RRoD process, but certainly does not prevent it. Elites are statistically likely to fail (About a 50-50 chance, with the odds increasing daily).
Falcon - the newest 360 motherboard (New is relative; it first released in the Halo 3 LE boxes). The motherboard has a 65nm CPU, whilst the GPU is still stuck at 90. Falcon does not do a thing to prevent the number of RRoDs. Every 360 on the market is likely to fail until...
Jasper - the 360 motherboard with a 65nm GPU is released. Look for some media hype in August when they all realise what it is Microsoft is going to be releasing. This will be the end of Microsoft's ridiculous Red-Ring fiasco.
It's 'unfortunate or, fortunate' that it will have taken to this length of time (August this year) - not to mention the countless scores of returns - to finally resolve though Microsoft!

Some people hey! say any crap and the fangirls and fanboys mental!
I got my Xbox Elite (i was late to the party because I was waiting for Halo) and havent had any problems with it.
But 3 friends have suffered big time. One had his launch Xbox break down 5 times. FIVE TIMES Yes Microsoft customer service have made it easy, and fix it/ replace it but not with a brand new model. Is the fact he has to box it, send it, and wait for its return. Yet Microsoft dont give him a brand new one!
Microsoft are demoing the 360 in front of industry professionals. Surely they are using a new machine. My worry is that Microsoft havent fixed the problem.
Doh! Not smart MS you bunch of numbnuts! I'm happy to report my 360 will be 2 years old next month and is still going strong.
Not very good PR, but unfortunately there's no other console that has the game's I'm interested in that aren't multiformat. I won't be assimilated into the Sony fanboy clan just yet.
I am glad I am a gamer and not a fanboy as you must suffer from really bad stress while I just get on with playing games.
The definition of stress should be :-
Wrapping your 360 in a towel in the hope it might overheat more than usual, melting the solder joints and "magically fixing itself".
Sadly, the above is a result of stress and is not a joke.
Well I have had 2 of my xboxes die and neither caused stress as microsoft dealt with it in a very customer friendly way. I just sent it off and continued playing my wii, ds and psp (although not as much on my psp as it makes my hands hurt).
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha UP YOURS XBOX FAN BOYS! f**k it i love my ps3 im gonna go to game now and trade my 360 in im not waiting for alan wake to get out of bed or fable, might get a wii instead or a decent graphics card for my pc
I'm a 360 owner but even I have to laugh at this. Although there always seems to be one console in every gen that has hardware issues. Last gen it was PS2 with it terrible len's failure. I actually owned 3 PS2's because of this but hey, one was a different colour and the other was smaller... This gen its 360 but sadly for MS they actually came out and admitted it, which is why it's much more of a media frenzy. Still no excuse though but as long as it has the best games selection I'll stick with it. The 3 year warrenty also helps.
I'd rather play games than watch Blu-Ray movies thanks.
t**t! i rather watch blu-rays than watch my computer breakdown. and guess what, the ps3 plays games as well - a RROD 360 wont be playing any games! let alone blu-rays.
if the 360 had BR playback all of u t**ts who are saying that, would go out and buy a BR.. unless u are too cheap to buy a hi-def tv, which might explain why u were too cheap to go out and buy a ps3.
save a few bucks on inferior equipment - watch it backfire in your face!
in between games i can watch blu-rays.. what are u going to watch inbetween xboxes?!
Man I hate fanboys! lol
You seem to be on an elitist rampage. Perhaps people can't afford a highdef tv. Perhaps they can't afford to buy a blueray player. Just because you appear to be so rich does not make people inferior if they are not. Gamers are Gamers whether they are rich or poor.
There is also the other argument and that is I do not particularly think Highdef is currently much better than an upscaled dvd and I can get far more films on them and I already have a large collection of them. Also I am waiting to see how the BD+ works out as I do not want to be left with a bricked player just because someone somewhere has decided to crack the same model player as the one I own. I also buy my consoles for playing games on, I only ever watched 1 dvd on my PS2 (and that was just to see what it was like) I have never watched a UMD on my PSP and I have not downloaded any films through Xbox Live. So why would I want to buy a PS3 to play Blueray on especially when the games side of the console is lacking?

question is, why would u want to buy a dedicated, overpriced BR player as opposed to the 2.0 spec, upgradable blu-ray ps3 - which has often been called the best BR player on the planet..
because your a 360 fanboy?
heavens forbid it should also plays games!
I have owned every sony console apart from the PS3 and I also own a wii, DS, Amiga, Spectrum, NeoGeo Pocket color and a dreamcast alongside my xbox and 360. I am not and have never been a fanboy. The PS3 was the best BR player on the market but it has been and will continually get overtaken as firmware upgrades can only do so much. To my knowledge they have not yet invented a way of distributing physical component upgrades down ethernet. They will make better and better lasers and better internal electronics which will constantly improve standalone players as time goes by. Meanwhile your PS3 will still have the first gen hardware installed.
Plus it barely plays games. Most of them are available on the 360 and in a better form too. Others like Metal Gear Solid are of no interest to me as after the PS1 Metal Gear they have been very poor games.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha UP YOURS XBOX FAN BOYS! Right, back to the topic at hand. The 360 is taking some pounding from the media lately, and rightly so... I wish I saw MS on watchdog, nothing beats some hot shot getting grilled! Personally I think this problem will remain no matter how many revision MS release... similiar to the PS2 in that respect. It will curse the 360 for its entire lifespan! But this did not stop the dominating status of the PS2, I still stick with the philosophy that if the console has the games, then peeps will buy it... Build it and they will come!

And before some one calls me an xbot i'll make it clear i have both ps3 and 360.It is funny however that m$ screwed up like they did but all i care about is the games that they play and on that front the 360 is winning hands down atm.

Just wait - your 360 could RROD at any second. Top tip - stay away from GoW.

amusing stuff as always. ive had my 360 for quite a long time now and nothings gone wrong..but mine is a later model, my bro had a launch and it did go, first time sent off..sent it back then after a few minutes..it dies again XD but they sent a compeltly new one and thats been perfect. id say its a lucky game of chance sometimes, and how you keep the console- eg, i keep it in a well aired spot. oh well maybe the most unreliable of the consoles, but cant say its by much anymore and its got the best games so i wouldnt ever swap it in. (for me anyway) lol and to the fan boy who was third post? BBC dont hate MS ...fool, how can they when they are getting BBC shows (bbc three mainly) for xbox live! BBc just like makeing evil programs like this..do you remmeber there program on that guy from most haunted, seeing if hes a fake or not. lol

Looks like your mum was the stupid one let you breath my ickle danger mouse, as the 'banter' you gave me there, reminds me of the little boy in the corner of the class room who smiled as he walked in the class room - you are the prime example of why they invited the Wii!
Because you are a wii little man, not even strong enough to hold just one main console the PS3! No you have to also have both to try and fit in the world.
Get rid of the 360 my friend and be strong the PS3 will domainate this year, so please record me a video of you smashing the machine up, and i promise i will hold alot more respect for you than the s**t that has rotted under the ground.....
WTF! YOU ARE ON YOUR FIFTH 360?!?!?
What the hell is wrong with you lol - Surely if I had a console or any piece of tech that had to be sent back and repaired four times I'd throw the chunk of s**t in the bin. This ain't technology, it is an embarrassment. If anything at all, I commend you for your loyalty and patience.
So you'd "throw it in the bin" (f**kin limey) instead of having it replaced for free under warranty?

F*CK you analandy you c*ck smoking pleb! I don't really give a rats ass about this 'console war' but I f*cking hate p*icks like you. What gives you the right to judge people?
Admitedly, the 360 does have problems but is it any wonder? My 360 gives out enough heat to warm my entire room, great now it's winter because it saves on heating costs. But have you seen the demonstration stands they put them in? If I was in there i'd complain too.
Not to sound like a fanboy or anything but I think the RROD is a good thing. The motherboard on my laptop melted because it got too hot and that was an expensive waste. The RROD helps prevent damage to the console after a hardware fault. Though I haven't had a problem with mine as of yet, I have seen some of the demonstration 360's in places like Gamestation and Game freeze after prolonged activity.
XMA programmers could have just got sloppy and MS have suffered the blow for it, but I still think the idea of programming your own 360 games is fantastic. It's one extra trump card in Microsofts deck. And I love the fact that connecting to the internet is soo much easier than the PS3. We're all on Live in halls, whereas the PS3 owners unfortunately can't connect to the net because the proxy blocks Linux software.
So before you all have a go at the 360, just think about all the consoles. They all have problems. Even the underpowered, overrated Wii that destroys TV's, lightbulbs and the like. Thought you could get away Wii fans?
I've had 3 X360's so far 3rd one has lasted 5months almost a record! But at least they extended the warranty to 3yrs..
PS3 still goin strong after 9 months use it more for Blu-Ray than games at the moment tho.
Just a side note.. Why do most of you moan about PS3 having Blu-Ray saying it should be for games? I mean X360's games are on DVD's? Isn't it about capacity as well as films

I think it's down to the way Sony see, and market, it. They see their PS3 as a media hub, one that plays high definition movies, music and games. Sadly, Joe Public sees the PS3 as a games machine, the next iteration of Sonys console - so Sony and the vast majority of people that bought a PS3 are at odds. Most of them could care less that their Blu-Ray player got a firmware upgrade, they would instead prefer a XMB for the PSN. So, in a nut shell, the fact that it has Blu-Ray, to most people, was secondary (at best) to the fact that it was an (expensive) games machine with very few worthwhile games for it.

At least, that's my opinion.
Your opinion is biased in the way that you own a 360 and have been lamenting HD DVD's demise to Blu-ray recently. You don't want a PS3 - fine, but your opinion doesn't stop anyone else getting one.
Your rebuke about Blu-ray is that you won't go HD (I frankly don't care if you miss out). People aren't going to stop adopting Blu-ray just because of your opinion - or other XBox 360 fans' opinions.
DVD will be slowly and eventually replaced by Blu-ray and *anyone* who thinks Microsoft will be able to peddle 500+ movies to millions of XBL subscribers simultaneously over the current internet infrastructure is deluded, doesn't understand the ideas of capacity, bandwidth, content filtering, charging models across countries (or in certain cases - lack of). Saying - it will happen because Microsoft wants it to happen is daft. Virgin media and BT offering local server content on dedicated and self-owned networks is one thing, pushing content over a convoluted internet is another.

I never once suggested this will be the reality, so don't put words in my mouth. While I don't think Blu-Ray will be the almighty success you believe it will be, I've never said anything about HD-DVD being better, or downloads superceding Blu-Ray, or anything else.
On another note, why do you feel it necessary to refute absolutely EVERYTHING I say, irrespective on whether they are opinions or otherwise. It is quite clear to me what a small minded individual you are, but do you really have to prove that by responding to every post I make?
The 360 is about to red light and die. We welcome our Playstation overlords.
BOOM!
I see... *calls mental ward*
Make sure you get yourself a good bed! I hear a lot of 360 fan boy's are ending up there after their 360's went RROD...
you really are a grade 'A' nipple for being a fanboy yourself ....
Just defending the other side from a band of Sony haters...
why doesnt everyone just buy both consoles and stop being jealous of each others consoles good points, and they do both have good points and bad points, i hate ms points system for buying things but at the same time i hate sony for dragging its feet with PSN.... theyre both good in their own rights.... p.s - blu-ray shouldnt even be an argue-ing point on this site, its a film media this gen....
Just to let the 360 fanboys know, my friends brand new elite has just died of RROD so to all the people who believe its fixed you are talking sh#t. The elite was 2 weeks old (new stock) and died just the same way my premium one did last year. Ps3 is a work horse, something 360 can only dream about.

I don't refute "everything" you say. I'd agree the Spectrum was a great computer back in the old days. I've had my fair share of games consoles and computers so people's opinions don't really bother *me*.
Like a lot of people, I wouldn't necessarily go and buy "the other console" when there's a lot of the same games out on the one I already have. Most early adopters plumped for the 360 and that's fine, considering it is what it is, but the fact is though - the PS3 was always a higher quality build. Those people who say the 360 is like the Dreamcast have a point, except that the 360 has a shoddy build quality and high failure rate which to be fair is the main reason not to get one.

thats a fair post off you for once, the ps3 has a better build quality, and there is lots of ps3 bashers on here and i agree the spectrum was awesome!!!!! the ps3 does get given a ruff time but its only because of how succesful the other 2 were before, nothing like see-ing the mighty fall from their pedestal and i was enjoying it myself because of how they bullied sega out of the console market, but admittedly its gone a bit over the top now the ps3 bashing....

... and you're prepared to get your 360 repaired indefinitely and perpetually? If you know how Microsoft works, you know that one day, not too long from now they'll declare date X as "no more support". When that happens, The 3 year RROD warranty won't be worth a thing and then, when your 360 does go RROD, you'll lose access to all those games you bought.
Its one thing to say I can play SNES, Genesis, Spectrum, Saturn, etc through emulation today... To say I'll be able to play 360 games through emulation in 2 years time though - not likely! Maybe in another 5 years or more perhaps, but any new XBox would (based on current processing power) need to include the 360 hardware (shrunk) or be able to run it natively and use the same API's - which would scupper any chance of a technical redesign and improvement. Its like deliberately driving down a dark alley that you know is a dead end, but you just can't see when you're going to hit it yet.
While I understand how early adopting 360 fans will defend their console no end... I think that now, anyone looking to buy a console would be sensible to steer clear of dark alleys!

i had a launch console (release date) and it has red ringed on me once, people who have had it red ring alot i do sympathise with and you make a valid point about not wanting to buy one (thats your opinion and right to do so). but you really shouldnt be slagging people off who do want one or own one and in the same respect people shouldnt bash ps3 owners for having a ps3 either, i own both and am pleased with them, theyre both good consoles to play on, if my xbox red ringed out of warranty i would still go out and buy another and the same goes for my ps3, i have negative issues about both (ms points system and PSN dragging its feet, should be a load better by now to name one for each), back on topic tho i did find the article funny. just play your games and be happy with what you've got or do same as me and own both and have the best of both worlds (or worst of both worlds).
This thread really has gone to the dogs. I have all 3 current gen machines so I'm not siding with any as they all get played and all bring me the thing that they're supposed to which is entertainment at the touch of a button.
As you can see from my sig I'm currently enjoying games on a wealth of formats.

OK so answer me this...
Why not (in order)...
1. Complete any 360 exclusive games you own. 2. Sell your 360 and all the games, peripherals, etc, knowing that at some point the 360 will break. 3. Use the money to buy the same cross platform games on PS3 that you really liked. 4. Use the rest of the money to invest in AAA PS3 titles, a few PSN games, or whatever.
While OK I understand the whole early adopter thing, I do not see any sense right now - today - in anyone going out and buying a 360. That's why I say PS3 sales will catch and surpass 360, why more games will be released on PS3 and why it will become the premier console to own. Of course there'll always be people who want all of them, but I'm not really talking about those people!
In all cases - referring to previous posts you have made either in article or in other articles and was not referring specifically to the one single post above.
I'm not particularly fond of this PS3 bashing, I think the 360 has bigger problems, but it seems there's more PS3 haters on here than the other way around.
Wow, a reasonable post... Thank the heavens...
I would like to correct you on one thing though, I never ONCE said I hated the PS3, and didn't bash it for that same reason. I have a 'slight' issue with those people that feel the need to ram their opinions of which console is the greatest down anyones throat over and over again, and it's this sort of thing that get's me wound up. Sure, I have my preferences, but to bleet on about it in every post I make would just make me universally hated.
And if anything, I'd suggest I'm more of a 'Nintendo fanboy' than Microsoft - I've had a SNES, N64, Gamecube and Wii, and sung their praises. Personally, I think Microsoft are c**ts and have built a shoddy ass console to boot. However, it has a STACK of great games I want to play on it, and a stack of my friends have one too, so it makes sense. I also immensely disliked the PS2, as my nephews seemed to break almost monthly, and that put my off getting a PS3 if nothing else. Well, that and the £425 price tag...
I don't refute "everything" you say. I'd agree the Spectrum was a great computer back in the old days. I've had my fair share of games consoles and computers so people's opinions don't really bother *me*.
With all due respect, it is quite apparent that others opinions don't bother you, and that is to be applauded - to a point. But you could turn it down a touch dude, sure, what people feel may not bother you, but do you want to be hated by 99% of the people that frequent here? Probably not.
Like a lot of people, I wouldn't necessarily go and buy "the other console" when there's a lot of the same games out on the one I already have. The Dreamcast isn't without it's problems either. That also sounded like a damn jet engine... But I agree, it is similar to the 360 in a way, the DC 'feels' like an American (rather than Japanese) console... *shrug* And yes, the PS3 has a higher build quality - the 360s reliability issue is very well documented. But really, having a go at adopters of the 360 will solve nothing - have you considered ranting at the actual people responsible - Microsoft?
... As I previously said. The 360 has a really bad failure rate. It is a major reason *not* to get one. If I had the same failure rates on a PlayStation 3, I would seriously consider skipping out a generation.

The 360 also has many games people want to play, and is a reasonable amount cheaper than the PS3 (or at least, was), this is why people are willing to 'take the risk'. Maybe *I* won't be one of those 16%.
Just to let the 360 fanboys know, my friends brand new elite has just died of RROD so to all the people who believe its fixed you are talking sh#t. The elite was 2 weeks old (new stock) and died just the same way my premium one did last year. Ps3 is a work horse, something 360 can only dream about.
, we all know the 360 could be more reliable but just do what i did when i had rrod, play your ps3 a bit more til it gets repaired and stop moaning.... quit the fanboyism and just carry on playing games... it used to be amusing watching fanboys on this site but now its like some tired old comedy act....
... and you're prepared to get your 360 repaired indefinitely and perpetually?
Of course there'll always be people who want all of them, but I'm not really talking about those people!
for the simple reason that i like playing on my 360/ps3/wii, theyre all great in their own rights, why have you got a problem with anyone owning a 360 or wii??? you remind me of that muslim radical (abu hamza??) trying to convert the masses through extremist properganda lol (not said in an offensive way, just light hearted humour mate) ...
2. Sell your 360 and all the games, peripherals, etc, knowing that at some point the 360 will break.
1. It's brand new (My GF bought it for me for Xmas) and 2. Most of my mates have 360s, whereas I know ONE person with a PS3. Not a great advert for online gaming where I vastly prefer playing with mates.
3. Use the money to buy the same cross platform games on PS3 that you really liked. 4. Use the rest of the money to invest in AAA PS3 titles, a few PSN games, or whatever.
Moot, for the reasons above.

How's this for a reason? You really want a next gen console, but all of your mates have 360s. Sure, they are having reliability issues, but the gain (gaming with mates) is worth the potential risk. Plus, 3 year warrantee, Microsoft would SURELY sort that issue in that time, wouldn't they? It's a solid reason to me, and the major one for why there are so many adopters round here in 'my group'.
And yes, the PS3 has a higher build quality - the 360s reliability issue is very well documented. But really, having a go at adopters of the 360 will solve nothing - have you considered ranting at the actual people responsible - Microsoft?
Funny you should mention because never mind considering...
*I did rant* at Microsoft just last week.
Its not just the 360 I have a problem with. Microsoft's whole, entire product line up - almost every bit of hardware and software has left me deeply dissatisfied. Trust when I say that I work and have worked in a scenario where 'licensing fees' of £10K + exist just *to run* a bloody bit of software, let alone other fees of £1k + for visual studio. Yes, so Microsoft's dev kits are good - the IDE, MSDN API help, etc, but sometimes you've got to look at what you're using that dev kit to develop for, how much it is / how much will cost you to run, serve clients or users and by comparison what the competition is offering - sometimes even for free, just to get your custom. Microsoft aren't just trying to lock customers to a particular machine or software, Microsoft are trying to do that to everyone involved and over the last 4 years or so Microsoft has become much more aggressive.

i think bill gates should beef up his security, i can see the papers next week will read like this- 'a man has been arrested in microsoft mogul bill gates's mansion grounds brandishing a sawn off double barrell shotgun with 'bill' on one cartridge and 'gates' on the other screaming "red ring of death!!" at the top of his voice' lol

Nintendo licensing is a menace and they are tight bottomd over their IP, but at least from a consumer perspective Nintendo has a completely different machine - a completely different experience. I've been playing on my DS the last few days and enjoying it. No RROD's there. Nintendo have brought me a lot of joy on the gaming side of things.
... but Microsoft - since about 2002ish - only trouble, developing, using, DRM, whatever. Plus they're getting involved in more and more markets trying to take a slice. Why? Simple, Windows and Office are no longer their main staples, so they're diversifying. Microsoft was really good at a great many things software wise at one time... That's partly how they really killed off a lot of other software companies - through great products. Now they're more twisted and evil than ever! A real Anakin Skywalker story.

I won't disagree, but that is true of any large corporation. It's a sad state of affairs, but as soon as a company becomes 'huge' they no longer give two s**ts about who they tread on. Sony, or at least Sony Online Entertainment, are no better, believe me.
This its why it's worrying to see EA buy up all those small but gifted development houses. Eventually they'll be just part of the corporate arm, and all creativity and care will be eroded away...

I wouldn't say better, I wouldn't say worse. The *difference* is the Japanese have a somewhat different mentality to corporate America. As I said before - Nintendo can be very mean, but at least good and quality product is *intended*. While I'm not saying Microsoft *intended* to make a faulty product (of course not), Microsoft did not test enough, so you might say they couldn't care less - as long as you're buying and Microsoft is in your home. Once Microsoft gets there, don't think the company will start being nice to you.

Its true. EA are gobbling. I personally know 2 developers (individuals) who have been swallowed up by EA. Pretty smart guys who have good ideas for games and would like nothing more than to f off and write their own games - but they need a steady pay-cheque. What does EA do about those game ideas - from the people who actually do the coding and know the hardware? Nothing. Stick to making the next sports game, the next "product". Let our evangelists come up with the ideas for products and new IP. Result? Good people end up getting fed up and leave, but the IP stays with the corp. At least - from what I've heard there are a couple of companies EA have on board who have largely been left alone (for now). That's how it needs to work, but the reality is - sooner or later when a corp takes over, there's branding, IT, HR, marketing consolidation, etc.

I can only really cite my direct experience with Sony Online Entertainment (who may well not be a Japanese 'arm' *shrug*) but these guys are appalling. Customer service and customer CARE is nigh on non-existant... I played Vanguard: Saga of Heroes which was fuelled solely by spin and bulls**t from SOE, and before that (I shudder to mention it) I played Star Wars Galaxies... As I said, Microsoft may well be bad, but plenty of other companies out there are asshats too... Not that that makes it any better you understand.
Yes that's right. I was thinking I must be gay just last night when I was screwing my girlfriend doggy style.
Grow up, pal.
Yeah doggy style in the ass! muwahahahah What a gayyyyy...
When you grow up you'll realise that 'anal intercourse' isn't just 'for gayyyyys'. It's also about degrading women. If it's any good...
Yeah im quite knowledgeable within sexual intercourse you idiot, But what i am also knowledgeable in is the fact that you my friend has visions of male ass your f**king

The fact that this guy doesn't recognise Star Wars, one of the (if not THE) most iconic movies of my generation just speaks volumes... For one, his age. He is probably pre-pubesant.
