A batch of images rumoured to be for Knights of the Old Republic III has popped up on JZConcepts.com, website of LucasArts' concept artist, James Zhang. Question is, are the images from his pitch for the project or the real thing?
Zhang lists Knights of the Old Republic II as a previously completed project and his client list includes heavyweight firms such as LucasFilm, Miramax, Sony Online Entertainment, Vivendi Universal and Epic Games.
We'll probably never know if the images are from KOTOR III, unless LucasArts puts us all out of our misery and confirms the title's development.
But fans of the franchise can hit this link and take a look at what could / might have been.
A couple of those images have a 2004 date on them, so what can we infer from that? That the game is in a long development, or that these are indeed concept images used to get on the project, if it does indeed exist? Roll on the announcement.

A couple more have dates of 5&6 June 2004, which was midway through KotoR II development. Odd time to start drawing concept art for a sequel, but given the way TSL ends I wouldn't rule it out.
The ending to TSL was such a mess, I can't even remember what happened. I remember the floating swords, and something blowing up...that's about it.
If they do make the 3rd I really hope Bioware is behind the wheel again. Obsidian are just...well, they're not Bioware.
Bioware are owned by EA now there is no way they are going to let them create a game for a rival publisher, Lucas arts still own the Kotor rights and license and that wont change.

The end was a rushed mess it wasn't the ending that was planned so I wouldn't use that as a reason for the concept art being for a third kotor game.

The ending was rushed and a mess, but the idea of it being a Empire Strikes Back cliff-hanger was enforced by LA from quite early on.
There's an interview on the net where Chris Avellone says something along the lines of 'I'll never let myself be forced into ending a game with a cliffhanger again', when addressing KoToR.
Based on it being tapped early on in development as the middle section of a trilogy, it would make *some* sense that concept art for a 3rd game would be commissioned in June 2004.
KOTOR was THE best western RPG for me last gen. The sequel didn't quite cut the mustard but it was still a great experience. I for one hope we eventually get a sequel this gen while we all remember the plot for the previous two games...
