PSP Go! Messenger out Friday

Downloadable for free via the PlayStation Store on PC
Sony's own PSP Voice-over-IP (VOIP) software, Go!Messenger, will be made available to download on the European PlayStation Store on PC this Friday.

The new software, which will be free to download, is a communication tool, much like Skype for PSP, that will use the PSP camera peripheral to allow users to send voice and video messages to each other, make video calls and send text messages.

Done in collaboration with BT, the service is for free (after you've bought the camera, that is) - all you need is access to the internet via a wireless access point anywhere in the world.

On the plus side, Go! Messenger will work with all PSPs, unlike Skype PSP which only works on the newer PSP Slim consoles. However, whereas Skype gives you the option to call real phones (for a small charge), Go! Messenger will only allow you to contact other Go! Messenger users.

In official terms, the service is Europe-exclusive, with no current plans for a US release. However, we reckon if you US residents log onto the UK version of the PSN PC store (by lying about where you live), you'll be able to download and use the software just fine.

Get a sneak peak of Go! Messenger with the image below, and look out for it on the PSN Store for PC this Friday.
