Dark Sector PS3 cancellation "never" considered

"Never once did we feel we could not pull off the PS3 version," Digital Extremes CEO James Schmalz tells CVG
Digital Extremes CEO James Schmalz has explained yesterday's comments from a team member suggesting that sci-fi slasher Dark Sector was almost canned on PS3.

The game's producer was quoted as saying that the PS3 version was "just not running as good as 360," and the developer had "serious discussions about what we were going to do".

"Never once did we feel we could not pull off the PS3 version of Dark Sector," DE CEO Schmalz told CVG via e-mail this morning. "As with all PS3 games, it takes skill and time to optimize and we spent a great deal of time doing that."

Schmalz explains: "As development drew to a close, it did take one final last optimization push to get the PS3 version performing as well as the 360 version. Never once did our engine team think it could not be done, it was simply a matter of priorities in finishing a game.

"At no time did we ever think, 'It's not going to be optimized enough, so let's talk to D3 about canning it.' That is just not true.

"I hope you guys enjoy Dark Sector. I'm really glad you have liked what you have seen so far."

The sci-fi slasher is still on for a worldwide release on both Xbox 360 and PS3 next month, and as it we said before it's shaping up rather nicely indeed.

All I can say is who gives a s**t?
The game looks s**te. So s**te that they've messed about with the whole concept of what the game was originall supposed to be.

Or off the record, "the PS3, being such a f**king mess of a machine to develop for, places severe restrictions on what we could and could not include in our lead 360 version. At the end of the day however we'll just toss those f**king Sony mugs any old unoptimized s**te knowing full well their quality control department will pass it without even asking what the game actually is as they have done throughout the entire Playstaion lifespan".
