Harmonix scoops $208.7 million bonus

Rock Band dev earns LOADS of cash
Rock Band developer Harmonix has earned a $208.7 million performance-based bonus from publisher Viacom, based on the tremendous success of Rockband.

Viacom subsidiary MTV Games acquired Harmonix in late 2006 for $175 million, which included a clause that would call for MTV Games to pay out incremental payments should Harmonix's sales exceed MTV's expectations.

They did.

According to December's NPD sales figures, Rock Band sold over a million units during the Christmas holidays, and shifted 2.5 million downloadable songs by mid-January. Apparently, MTV didn't think Harmonix was going to do that.

No doubt Harmonix are now swimming around in a money vault like Scrooge McDuck in the credits of Duck Tales, but the developer should heed our criticism:

Harmonix, just think of how much larger the bonus would have been had you'd actually released the game in places other than America.

Y'know, like in England. If it didn't look so sweet, we'd not buy it now just to ensure you didn't get a similar bonus next year.

I agree with you guys, I wish we could boycot games like this Sad It's yet another case of sales strategy coming above gamers needs/wants. Still if i was making a $208 mil bonus i doubt i'd care much either lol. When is this coming out in the UK...?
