EA has released more screenshots of its surprise game of the year contender Mirror's Edge, which looks as fit as a butcher's dog.
Half of the images look like artwork, but you can plainly see the look and stance DICE is going for in its "first-person free-runner", which slants heavily towards first-person melee combat - and yes, jumping across big buildings.
As noted the last time we spoke about it, it's supposed to be visceral as hell with melee kung-fu combat taking centre stage (guns are described as "short power up", lasting only until the end of the clip).
First-look previews have been very positive, and it's looking absolutely fantastic. We especially like the clean, but colour-coded art style, which clearly displays your route through the map.
i was almost sick then... this game has huge potential. the bile enducing moment happend when i read "EA". this will no doubt get everyones hopes up, then be blighted with all sorts of typical EA type issues. so far so good though, my hopes are up. i'll stay positive until the no doubt "it had the potential but fell short of expectations" review
To those of you (justly) making anti-EA comments, the reality is that this is being produced by DICE in Stockholm, Sweden. DICE used to be partially owned by EA, who only relatively recently stepped up to full ownership, once development of the game was well underway. This is probably why it is an original product, rather than a new release of a tired sports sim franchise.
I'm really excited by this game. And that isn't just because my mate is the producer......
EA have f**k all to do with this game, its DICE's baby & that's why it will be awesome!, looks great & it seems DICE are creating a new experience with this FPS!, no gruff men in space suits to be seen!!... you see developers it can be done!.... i just hope this doesn't turn out to be like the club?... i want something with a bit more substance, this is one to watch.
This looks very original and can't wait to see some gameplay/previews. Love the very clean environments, makes a change from all the gritty realism people seem to be going for these days.
Hopefully EA are giving DICE some freedom with this one - looks like it could turn out brilliantly.
looks awesome, definately going to keep an eye on this one. its not the first free-running game but both this and prototype look like theyll turn out to be worth playing.
and i agree with ksyme99, multi would be interesting. imagine dozens of players running around the city in a huge deathmatch.
