Rockstar boss Sam Houser has revealed that the company is very tempted by the prospect of a Grand Theft Auto MMO, in an interview with US mag EGM (via Massively.com).
Speaking to the mag, Houser said that a GTA MMO is "very, very doable" and is a "very, very compelling proposition" (he probably noticed World of Warcraft's user count here).
Later on in the interview the Rockstar chief apparently calls a console subscription-based MMO "the Holy Grail," perhaps, again, after a stroll through Blizzard's car park.
Somebody probably wants to tell Rockstar about APB, the new online effort from Crackdown studio Realtime Worlds (and GTA creator Dave Jones). It looks bloody fantastic and certainly whiffs a bit of "GTA Online", so if Rockstar decides to enter the MMO arena this'll be the one to beat.
Having said that, we still don't know what GTA IV, the next solo instalment, has in store for its multiplayer modes. We're off to Rockstar Towers to see it very soon - who knows, it might even blow away our expectations.
Like teaming with other people, who can have turf fights against other people. Lots of races and stealing others deals with druglords and weapons dealers.
The GTA series has been screaming out for this since the very start, it would be awesome! A possile contender for the crown currently owned by WOW as well, ie the number of subscribers. Just imagine the terriory wars, taking peoples strongholds and nicking their prized cars, endless fun!

It would be fun to be an Ammunation gun seller in a GTA MMO, making money to buy property and bigger guns for yourself, diversifying into pimping... All good non-PC stuff.
I love Online gaming, i spend some time on it. But i think after my time on TES: Oblivion yesterday i have realised online games just can't live up to offline often, and even though it sometimes can, taking good offline games and making them online could be a mistake.

WoW may be amazing, but by using that logic is is like saying since WoW is, all games should go MMO style. It would be expensive and a good offline game will always win. Offline is just more relaxing, and too many developers are making more effort Online than offline. I'd prefer both offline and online, but i don't think offline should be sacrificed for online.
You can already do MMO on a few of the GTA's online on the PC, all you need to do is download a patch!

Yeah GTA:SA MP is good fun but really needs to be more controlled (ie. Punkbuster). There are either way to many people cheating or the glitches are really bad. There are loads of folk that cant take damage and spawn with armour etc. But its still a great mod!

Counter-Strike is not MMO. Lots of people play it, but they don't all play on the same server in a massive persistent world.
A huge city full of real people shooting and screwing each other over would make one hell of an MMO.
i can say the same thing but in a negative way. this is a huge mistake, i can just imagine walking down the street, being picked off by bottomholes who think its funny to constantly snipe people. youd never get a chance to complete any missions, people would be killing you all the time. this is going to be a huge f**k up.

First Counter strike is not an MMO
Its an online teambased shooter not MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE game that would mean 100+ playing same time.
Next you saying i never played wow? i have, i played wow beta and 2 years after it. It screwed my life up. And also many of my friends. Its just brainwash and its not how pc gaming is supposed to be. Next ive tried other mmos aswell. I was in the beta of Hellgate london and got the retail game aswell. This sucks too. I tried Guild Wars. It was slightly better than world of warcraft but atleast it wasnt that addictive.
Next ive been in age of conan beta and never have i seen an mmo as slow paced and boring as that.
You see most mmos out there lack high end graphics or gameplay features. It focuses on Internet social things and stuff like that. The biggest priority is accesibility not gameplay nor graphics like thoose great singleplayer/multiplayer games out there.

Totaly agree
& nologo - he was saying that to state his point that its getting so bad with all games turning into MMO's even Counter Strike could jump on the MMO bandwagon. Not that it is an MMO now.
