Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be out on in UK and Europe on March 27 as a download on PSN - more than three weeks ahead of the US.
March 28 will see the release of the Blu-ray version of the game, which you'll be able to pick up play off the disc like any other game. The downloadable PSN version will arrive a day earlier on March 27.
Both versions will cost the same - £24.99. You'd think the PSN download would be a few quid cheaper.
In case you missed the good news last week, the Euro version of GT5P will have heaps of content not in the Japanese version, including new modes, 30 more cars, another track and tons of other stuff.
As well as that, you will also be able to buy the game with a PS3 in a new hardware bundle that packs a 40GB console with the Blu-ray disc for £299 on March 28.

Some people regard spending hundreds of pounds on a console that breaks is taking the p**s. Yet you complain about Ł24.99? You know as well as everybody else that you can get this for Ł17.99 from PLAY.COM. Quit whining. Your first to complain when the shoe is on the other foot. Hypocrite!

well, i am glad that its making the end of march release. inlcuding the new content, it makes that Ł17.99-Ł24.99 price tag a lot more worth it, i pre-ordered with GAME online, but they are selling it for Ł19.99, im not fussed with the extra 2 quid, but i still will be getting it on the 27th with free delivery

I now own all 3 next gen systems, as well all 4 of the last gen systems, so don't go on about me owning inferior products. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is a nice bit of kit, but M$ has served me well in the last 5 or 6 years and is still my favoured system. Of which I have only had 1 replacement which was not even down to the RRoD. Just saying you're willing to pay that gives the devs an excuse to charge stupid amounts for Digital copies when their main selling point is supposed to be that they are cheaper. MS & Nintendo are just as bad with their ridiculous Live/originals & VC pricing too so dont think im just singling out Sony here.

I own the Hong Kong version, that a friend kindly bought for me a few weeks ago. I absolutely love the game to bits. The handling, the graphics and the overall polish. In fact, I think that you've been overly harsh with your critisisms, but I understand that GT is'nt for everyone.
Bear in mind that I have been using a decent wheel to play the game and that may make a difference.

Couldn't agree with you more, the whole pricing is a farce. I ordered it off of Gameplay for Ł17.99, but paid the 99p postage, so I get it the day it comes onto the PSN anyway, on the Thursday.
I wouldn't have minded buying it on the PSN, but as it is going to cost more than what I am paying for it now, they can suck my balls.

Gotta say, I was impressed with the car models, they've really gone to town on them- but as already mentioned the background still looks as dreary as Forza 2's... Only I picked up Forza 2 for Ł9- Brand spanking new. Frikkin' bargain. (Oh and Flat Out 2 for Ł10!- not quite the same thing though...)

The game has done a couple of things right compared to Forza, for example, it has a great in-car view for starters, it's just that the physics and AI just do not match what Forza has to offer.
Once I get some more money together, I will buy myself a G25 Racing Wheel, the only racing wheel that will ever do this game any justice, which is the only other plus point it has over Forza for the time being.
My criticisms are not unfounded btw. A stable frame rate is essential for a racing game, but when you go around corners and the screen tears and the game slows down, it is off putting.
My boyfriend doesn't like it when I give it so much attention.
Now excuse me cos I need to fire one off over a bluray disc.

No, I am simply going to support the shops, with giving them a cut of the profits. Not giving Sony the whole Ł24.99 for them to sit back and laugh demonically, calling everyone suckers while they are at it.
Considering that a shop or online store is making a profit out of a boxed Blu Ray version of the game, just goes to show how much money Sony and other companies are robbing people of when it comes to the digital distribution method.
From my point of view (360 owner, don't have a PS3), I think this is looking a pretty good deal after the extras they announced last week. It should be cheaper on download, but Ł17:99 is a good deal - look at how much some will pay for a couple of cars as DLC on Live for Forza 2.
The GT games just don't do it for me, but I suspect that the full game will be the big console seller - not MGS4, I don't think there are many casual gamers holding on to their cash until that's released.
the photo realistic graphics look a bit stale, boring. dont u get to race other cars in this?! its a boring game to begin with. no cars and what u got? a Ł25 demo.
i rather DL it and be able to play it off the harddrive instead of swapping discs all the time. worth the extra (or the same as cd) in my opinion. means u can have a quick blast at it every now and then... if its not too boring!!
It's been this way (beautiful but boooring) since GT2. I think it's the soundtrack. They never delivered as brilliant a soundtrack as the one featured in GT1. The intros have been disapoointing too. O'GT1, where art thou?
I thing that seems to be overlooked on the ps3 downloads is that you can put them of 5 (Five) ps3's so instead of paying Ł18 each you can get one downloaded copy and play online against each other for a total cost of Ł25.

Some people have spent even more on a certain console which has next to no good games and also breaks (disc drice will not read discs).

I have stooped and pre-ordered it yesterday, even after playing the Jap version and coming away very disappointed. Compared to what is available elsewhere on other systems, it just does not feel like a racing experience. I can understand why Polyphony have dubbed it the Driving Simulator.
It has got quite a few flaws. Sony promised us 1080P at 60fps, to me that means a constant 60fps with no slow down. Sadly it isn't the case, quite a few corners are plagued with slow down and screen tearing. CPU AI is as poor as ever. Track side detailing leaves a lot to be desired, hardly any decent textures and poor detailing on a lot of track side objects. Also, a lot of track side objects have been left out on certain tracks which are visible and present on other Racing Sims.
Polyphony seem to have gone out of their way to get the graphics up to 1080P, but at the cost of a lot of details and some annoying graphical hitches. I would rather they kept it at 720P and concentrated on making the game feel and look like a racing experience.
On a side note, the cars are superbly modeled, Polyphony have always got that right, also, the in car view does look superb.

Here is a mini review based on the Japanese version of GT5P which I've been playing since launch. Before I start my review I will just say, for the benefit of the fanboys, that I am a diehard racing fan, lover of GT1-4 plus all other racing games, from F1 Sims to arcade racers like Burnout. I currently own both a PS3 and 360.........
First impressions of GT5P were very good. The presentation is amazing. Super slick menus, nice jazz music for the front-end and every looks lovely in 1080p. The ingame graphics are equally incredibly good and quite poor. The car models are outstanding. They look like the professional shots you seen in car mags. There is a little bit of aliasing on the cars but not much. The in car view is also amazing, far better than Project Gotham 3&4. The lighting effects, shadowing and reflections are also outstanding and really show what the PS3 can do in the right hands. Unfortunately the background graphics are rather dated and flat, with the expectation of the London track, which looks as good as Project Gotham, which in my opinion has good the best background graphics in any next gen racing game out at the moment. The framerate is mostly very smooth, though it does drop at times. Big issue for me is the lack of speed. Even when you get some of the supercars in the game the sense of speed is just not there. You always feel like you are driving at 30mph not 200mph, even when using the incar views.
There are three big problems with the game which could be fixed by the time the full version of GT5 comes out but judging GT4 I am doubtful.
Sound - It is like they just exported all the sound effects from GT1 and have used them from every game since. The engine note is pretty poor compared to recent next gen racers and the type screech is the WORST ever. I swear to God, it sounds exactly the same as the type screech in GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4.
Physics - Even with all the driving aids off, traction control off etc, the cars are still far too easy to drive. You never feel like you are driving a powerful supercar. The physics is Forza 2 made the game great. Yes the graphics were poor but physics made the game exciting and fresh. You really felt that you were driving a high performance car and when you turned off the driving aids it made a HUGE difference to the way the car behaved and really added to the challenge.
A.I - Barely improved over GT4, which was used the same A.I as GT1. The CPU cars still follow the racing line like robots and will only get off the line if you crash into them. They do sometime make mistakes though, sometimes missing their braking point but they certainly don't "Race" you like Forza, Motorstorm, Gotham or even Need for Speed Prostreet. They are just like traffic, there to pass and thats it. Very poor!!
Finally Online - Very smooth with very little lag, even though I am playing on Japanese servers. The big problem is that they have this weird penalty system. If you hit another car you get a 10sec penalty were your cars slows right down for 10secs. The problem is the penalty system is very hit and miss. Sometimes you can crash and not get penalty, sometimes someone can hit you and you end up with the penalty. Very frustrating and I hope they sort it or remove it.
Overall, the game is a showcase for what the PS3 can do but the game needs alot of improvement to really make it special. It needs proper A.I, better sense of speed and please sort out the cr*ppy sound effects. I really hope PD are saving the HAL A.I and stuff for the full version.
I begrudge paying Ł25 for a extended beta testing demo before GT5 finally comes out...Polyphony are too over hyped, they cant even develope two games at the same time i.e PSP GT4 is still waiting to be finished what 3 years late?!

In other words, when I buy the english version of GT5 I will let my dad and bessy mate download using my account and they will share the cost. That is just over Ł8.00 each. That is why it does'nt seem expensive to me. Of course if their was nobody to share price with, then yes, I would be a bit gutted at the price and just buy the retail copy instead. At least you could trade it in.

I wouldnt bother trying to play cluedo with this one at the moment!.... it could be a number of people lets just all learn a thing from this & move on.
So, GT Prol, is it worth buying?, is it just an over priced (not that there should be any price!) demo!?, or is this a case of wait for the full game?.

You know, I would prefer to a pay Ł1.00 for all downloads, but when you factor in the amount of time it has taken Polyphony D to create this Prologue, then you can't complain too much. Complaining about price is a waste of time. Not buying a product is the best way to punish people if you are not happy.
. I am on A class on the HK version and I have seen any sign of them yet. However, I have'nt played the game much online, so there may be the option to choose number of laps, etc.
