Looks like Sonic & Knuckles is on its way to the Virtual Console - American ratings body the ESRB has just given the game an 'everyone' rating for release on Wii.

As with all rating listings, there's no word on when the game will be released, but we can't see any reason Sega or Nintendo would hold back from releasing the last Sonic classic for the Mega Drive on the Virtual Console.

Originally the second part of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the cartridge version of Sonic & Knuckles included a link-up mode with which you could link up previous Sonic games and play them with extra characters and features.

There's no word on what Sega and Nintendo plan to do regarding this functionality, but our bet is on it being omitted.

Maybe the bonus stuff could be unlocked if the game finds saved data of the other games in the Wii's memory?

Better just to pick up a cheap second-hand copy of Sonic Mega Collection. That way you get all the MD titles bar Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix.

I reeeeeally want to see Chaotix on the VC! I was a massive Sonic fan and this was the one game I missed out on. Would love to play it.

Me too, but we need to wait for Sega to annonce 32X Support for the VC first.

Sonic and Knuckles was one of my all time fav games on thew mega drive but only when plugged with sonic 3!

Stand alone if i remember rightly didnt offer the save function that it did when played with sonic 3.

Im with cvg on this one and believe it will be omitted Crying or Very sad

It'd be awesome if 32X games did come to the VC. No reason why they shouldn't. I'd love to have Virtua Racing Deluxe and Knuckles. Come on Sega and Nintendo, DO IT!
