Crysis + Wii Remote = Wiisis

Crazy modders bring motion control to Crytek's FPS
Nope, we've not tried it out yet, but a mod team is saying it's managed to get Nintendo's Wii Remote and Nunchuk working with Crysis to bring motion control to the FPS.

The name of the mod? Wiisis. Ho-ho.

According to the team, the mod "supports many different gesture controls", including "jumping by flicking your Wii Nunchuk up", crouching "by tilting your Wii Nunchuk down or prone by tilting it even further", "punch or zoom in with your weapon by motioning your Wii Remote forward", "pick up objects by lifting your Wii Remote up and "throw a grenade by lobbing your Wii Remote over your head".

That last one sounds a bit dangerous.

"In order to play Wiisis with your Nintendo Wii Remote and Nunchuk," the team goes on to explain, "you will need to have a Bluetooth receiver installed on your computer with an HID profile created for the Remote."

We're not sure if this is pointless barmy-ness or a genius idea. Full details on Wiisis here.

i remember reading about wii controls on pc about a year ago now. What has changed?

Nothing. Thats what.

You just use a free tool to map motion gestures to keys.

Cheers CVG for the most out of date article I have ever read.

this sound slike too much effort, keyboard and mouse ftw!

i never heard about this. I mustve been hiding in the same cave as Obama... er I mean Osama. Laughing

Thats pretty neat, if I could use my Wiimote to play PC games. Then I won't need any other systems except for my PC and my Wii. Haha imagine playing Halo 3 on the PC with a Wiimote. How ironic would that be? Very Happy

Games not designed to play with a motion controller do not work well with one. Crysis and Halo 3 are simply too fast for the sluggish pointer. Even a standard dual stick controller feels faster and more responsive. Trust me: I tried this. Just doesn't work.

I have to say nay to the dual stick line. Analog sticks are the slowest input possible. I've tried many, waaay too slow for aiming. Mouse much quicker. I'll have to try the Wiimote to see how it stacks up to a mouse. Im sure the mouse will be faster, but I wonder by how much.

Try it and you'll see what I mean. Mouse and Keyboard > dual sticks > Wiimote, regardless what you may think. I've done it. It sucked pretty bad. Pointing at the edge of the screen and waiting as it turns you 360 degrees just doesn't give you as much control or responsiveness as doing it with a stick. You have one speed when pointing it at the edge of the screen that you can turn at because that is the boundery. Sure, you can adjust the speed, but it's either to fast and you end up over-shooting your target by a mile or it's two slow and you end up dieing before you get turned completely around. With stick controlling that movement, you can control that speed at which you turn at all times. There is no one speed. Even Metroid Prime, which is designed for the WiiMote feature has this limitation. Your on-screen aiming is good, but someone who is good with a stick is going to be just as quick aiming as with a Wiimote. The turning speed however, cannot be compensated for.

That was from my personal experiance though. Using the WiiMote was just far more trouble then it was worth. I just felt like I lost too much control.

reace, please do not spread miss information like that, you clearly dont no what you are talking about. MP3 controls really well, all you have to do is change the settings 2 "advanced". MoH also features this "bound box adjustment" feature (wich does NOT affect actual turning speed i might add, thats a difrent option), meaning it turns alot sooner than the edge of the screen. if all games handled like red steal i might agree with you but the controls for FPS are 1 of the main improvments the wii makes over a regular controler IMO. It is alot closer to mouse n keyboard than a normal controler AND you get 2 sit on a comfy chair Very Happy

crysis + wiimote = lame

the control is so delayed it is horrible. Mouse and keyboard own in this game.

It's his opinion Rolling Eyes , one that alot of people (myself included) happen to agree with. I actually find the 360 controller alot better for fps than the wiimote. To each their own, your mileage may vary.
