EB Games in Canada is advertising a promotion which basically allows gamers to own Haze - the sci-fi shooter on PS3 - for a week for free.
First, you have to pre-order the game. Then when its release rolls round you part with your dosh and take home your copy of Haze.
According to the promotional flier below (courtesy of NeoGAF) you have one week to either finish it or get bored of it. Take it back inside the first week and you'll be able to trade it in for store credit amounting to the full price you paid for the game.
Not bad, eh? But it's clever because, while you got to experience the game free of charge, you also end up with money that you have to spend at EB.
anyone think its because they think the game will be poorly reviewed and are hoping to make sales before the reviews are seen by the public? then theres the off chance people will like it and keep it, even if they dont, their money is still within the company as credit

Exactly what I was thinking.
... i have seen haze several times over the last few months on gamer tv. it looks seriously flawed. the AI is EA style bad. the graphics ive seen arent exactly pushing the limits of the ps3's capability. i was really looking forward to this 6 months+ ago, but im not going to rush out to buy it or pre order it. i'll wait for the reviews and see what people think on the forums before first.

Me too, its almost like saying, we know its s**t, but play it for ten days as we get marketing money for "selling it" and then buy something else thats actually worth playing.
Its a bit like Demo´s these days. This must ruin casual sales of s**t games, take FIFA for example, I havent been near a FIFA game since the Megadrive days, and the Demo made me realise why. Okay the PES Demo was not much better, but helped to make the choice.
Turok and conflict Ops or something like that were others too.
No it's not because it's s**t it's a simple way to hijack the launch. If they think it'll be a million seller and they are offering the best deal for people wanting to buy the game then all the people wanting it will go their instead of their competitors. Like microsoft dropping the price of 360 before gta4 launch to pinch the people who want gta4 off sony.
maybe coz they know its gonna be s**t coz its been delayed upteem times before and the games not even out till may. seems to me that EB games want to revive interest in a game that everyone wanted to play six months ago but now cannot be bothered since GTA 4 and MGS4 will have everyones attention
Another first person shooter by Free Radical. If it is rubbish, I will be surprised as they know how to make a decent fps. Depends if they have completely run out of ideas. The delays do suggest that they have been umm'ing and aah'ing about the direction of the game.

No, it's because as has been duly noted many times, EB Games makes a hell of a lot more money off used games than they do new, and people also tend to buy more than one used game at a time because they think they're getting a deal. So you have a credit you can only spend in their store and now they have the draw of having many used copies of a game that's still in high demand, as opposed to having it two months later.
I certainly wouldn't go and buy a copy of Haze from any of those EB store as they'd probably sell you a copy that had been returned in that first week, as NEW - not uncommon in a lot of retail stores as we all know.
