Details arising from Take-Two's conference call (the same one that confirmed BioShock 2 for release towards the end of '09) last night have revealed that Rockstar will release a "major sequel" sometime in 2009.
During the financial report the suits at Take-Two were asked where its prodigal son was heading once GTA IV had been packed off and sent to the shops.
Aside from there being two bundles of DLC (planned for Q4 '08 and sometime 2009) in the works for IV, word was given that the studio has its sights set on launching "at least one" major sequel in 2009.
No further details were given other than it's definatly going to be a "triple A sequel." Got that? No 7/10 for this baby.
Get guessing in the comments section below, but we reckon it won't be Table Tennis 2. Or Bullied. Dare we say Manhunt 3? Poeple in teh comments are suggesting a new Max Payne, go take a look.
They've already had that in production for a while. & agreed, MC 2+3 were brilliant.
Never played the second one, almost didn't play the dub version after playing the awful first one
Thankfully I did though it was a nice game. A well done sequel with police chases could give EA and their declining NFS brand a much needed wake-up slap in the face.

The new one (Midnight Club: Los Angeles) is looking very good indeed, one to keep an eye on - that's for sure..
I'm struggling to think what they could be referring to for this 'sequel'.....
Aye, my money's on Max Payne III. The final installment of the tale, where all the loose ends are wrapped up and the body count resembles the Angolan national debt.
Microsoft is battling hard to make GTA IV a bigger hit in the 360 then the PS3. Just competitiveness? I think there is something more to it. Rockstar might be offering a special deal with the next GTA IV game.
I doubt Rockstar will go format exclusive, but they might allow more unique content for the winner of GTA IV sales.
After playing bully on 360 I hope it's a sequel to that =] It's a great game but my money would be on Max 3...makes sense really. Or maybe they will do an EA and churn out a new GTA every year!
Im going with Max Payne 3 on this one but i would also like to see GTA: London!
The swinging 60's in 3D and HD!
I second that. It will probably be a much needed sequel to GTA: London 1969 Mission Pack 1. And coz maybe the next gta will use the same engine as GTA IV, the game will already be half finished.
I think they need to move on from GTA now, Rockstar need to go away & think of a new IP that hits us like GTA3 did, something that's gonna split this generation open. GTA is cool but its been done to death & id really hate to see it become a cash cow that get's to the point where we are totally sick of it. come on guys, blow us away.....
p.s. a New Max Payne would be sweet, as long as they get away from the, open door shoot 4 guys collect weapons move onto next door, routine
Max Payne is a possibility but I liked the comment about the current state of FPS and HD, and I think a true to life game is unlikely to push any new boundaries on the new consoles.
Or GTA IV stories on the psp, if that's even possible.
but...wouldnt you want a new IP???... something diffrent?...something new & exciting!...its......ohhh why bother... yer just keep making GTA's until the world ends then.....
If they say it's a sequel to an AAA series, then the only one bar GTA and Bioshock that come to mind is Max Payne. Like someone already stated, they've also got a movie in production so I guess it makes sense to revive the franchaise now.

It's that GTA moves consoles--it did when it came out on the PS2, and Microsoft realizes this--hence the money paid for the exclusive content (and likely making the 360 the lead development platform, hence it being the superior version, technically-speaking.)
Exclusive content, price drop (likely in America too...), and more AAA exclusives sandwiched around the release...yeah, someone's positioning themselves for a significant console sales run.
there was rumours years ago about a possible Bully/ canis canem edit sequal, considering the recent polish of Bully just been released on the 360, i wouldn't right it off the possiblilty of a deserved sequal
I think it'll be Max Payne but would much prefer a Bully sequel. Bully: The College Years a bit like what they did with Saved By The Bell . I'd love to course some major havoc at one of those gay American keg parties where hey all get p**sed on shandy.
I want a featured comment too for my midnight club
It must be one of the three M's, Midnight Club, Manhunt or most likely Max Payne. They have no other big franchises that spring to mind.
Well, like the others have already mentioned, it won't be Midnight Club as we've known about that for almost a year and it's due out this summer.
I would probably go with Max Payne but the article seems to suggest it's actually Rockstar as a developer that they are talking about and I believe Max Payne is Remedy Entertainment.
It could be something different like State Of Emergency or Red Dead Revolver. Maybe even an old Take Two game, like Syndicate Wars. What about Serious Sam? Are Croteam working on one or have they passed it on?
I think it could well be a Bully sequal, as i feel that the main reason they recently realeased it on wii and 360 could be to easily get a larger fanbase for the series before releasing a full blown sequal across all three platforms. Anyone agree?

Makes a lot of sense to me. I'm still waiting to pick up a copy (never played the PS2 version), but I'm really unsure whether to get it for the 360 or Wii after reading reviews on both platform. Also, as others have already stated; there's plenty of things they could do in a sequel - I especially like the College Years idea!
Red Dead Revolver would be a good shout - I'm all for more games set in the Wild West, pity they couldn't make the first any better....I figured that puppy had been put down, but it's all possible.

Yeah, that was why I almost didn't suggest it but we have to remember that it's Take Two bigging this game up, so it could be anything. They are hardly going to say, "Rockstar will be continuing one of their poor franchises for next year"
Red Dead Revolver and State of Emergency would both fit.
I think they could do another GTA game, think about it, 1 and a half years from when GTA IV is released ( October 2009 ) should be plenty of time to get a new story written, build a new city etc because they wouldnt have to start from scratch like they did with GTA IV. If it is a next-gen version of Vice City set in 2009 would be good. A 60's London would be too 'old fashioned' and probably boring. The 80's is far back enough in my opinion.
If it wasnt a new GTA then id say it would be Max Payne 3 or The Warriors.
