Take-Two dates Mafia 2 for fiscal '09

Out October 2009 at the latest - months and months away then...
Take-Two has pencilled in mob sequel Mafia 2 for release during its fiscal '09 year during a financial conference call yesterday.

The launch window comes via details sourced from a full transcription of the conference call on SeekingAlpha.com.

It means that the game will release some time between November '08 and October '09. Or in other words, it could be well over a year away.

Mafia 2's a sequel that's been eagerly anticipated for years following the impressive debut of the franchise on PC way back in 2002.

Take-Two confirmed the follow-up last August, although trivia fans may like to know CVG got word on Mafia 2 from series developer Illusion Softworks back in 2003.

New screenshots hit the internet last week too. Go see.

It's probably wise this way. Not only does it mean longer to get it working properly and bug test, it also means that it'll be coming out when people are getting a bit bored with GTA4 Smile

Are TakeTwo more of a threat to EA than Activision Blizzard now? Clearly EA think they're valuable and they've got a shedload of strong franchises to build on.
As long as they keep the attitude of not being scared of taking risks (Manhunt, Bully, Bioshock) they'll be onto a winner.

They're obviously making all these announcements much earlier than they would do to say to shareholders & everyone else "Look! We don't need EA!! Look at all these great games we've got in the pipeline!!!"
