First LoTRO expansion revealed

The Mines of Moria out this year
Turbine has revealed the first expansion to its decent Tolkein MMO Lord of the Rings Online, which is scheduled in the shops before the end of the year.

As elf nerds might have already figured out, The Mines of Moria takes high level LoTRO players underground to battle goblins and other nasty's in the old living space of the Dwarves (Gimli's cousin lived here, apparently).

The expansion raises the original's level cap from 50 to 60, as well as adding two new character classes the Warden and the Runekeeper - Turbine isn't saying anything more about these yet though.

There's also a new legendary item system turning up, as well as improved enemy AI and a spruced up lighting system. And yes, The Balrog and The Watcher also turn up for a boss fight.

Read more about it over on the freshly-launched official website.

I guess it was an inevitable announcement considering the latest WoW expansion is out soon and other MMORPG's such as Conan and Warhammer.

I truly wish I had the time to play enough LOTRO to make this relevant to me, as it's an excellent MMO, (In Everquest-Clone terms.) and it trumps even WoW in several important ways.

Alas, there are only so many hours in the day...

Hmm, I don't like the sound of this. I just think they mess about with the world too much, and I can see them utterly mutating the eerie silences of Moria.

im gonna guess at this guy being a WoW addict who can't admit that there are superior games.

hmm.....my only questions is, is it free? Razz

About time they announced this ;-p

I can't wait. LOTRO is the single finest MMO on the market right now, bar none, and the content that Turbine keep pumping into it is of such consistently high quality that i can't see this expansion being anything less than brilliant. Turbine did a fantastic job of bringing Tolkein's world to life following the films, and I just can't get enough of the game.

those of you who say it sucks, I have to question just what you want in a game. LOTRO has damn near everything, except maybe scantily clad space ninja bunny girls.

so, if i went out and bought the vanilla version of LOTRO and the Moria expansion, i wouldn't be able to play the Moria part until im at a high enough level?!

Pft, NEXT!

Same thing happens with most if not all mmo expansions.

World of Warcrafts first expansion did the same in that you had to be high level to enter outland. And i assume there will be a similar level restriction on entering Northrend when the second expansion comes out.

I recall that most of everquests expansions concentrated on adding new high level content to its world too and im sure more veteran mmo players will be able to inform us of other mmos and what their expansions added.

But dont forget that while the main focus will of course be the new mines of Moria area/s they are still adding new stuff that new players can experience in the new classes ( you will have to begin from level 1 to play them).
And the new legendary item creation sounds exciting in that from hows its described it will let us make/find low level items which will level up with us as we go! And so while at first it may look like a high end game feature its really also something a new character could utilise.

New recruit to LOTRO here btw, and im loving the game. Im still also playing wow and can happily play and enjoy both games. They are have excellent games Smile
