Ubisoft greenlights Clancy MMO

Acquisition of all rights to Tom Clancy name paves way for new development opportunity
Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has revealed the publisher's now set to "go for" an MMO branded with the Tom Clancy name.

Guillemot's comment follows the news that Ubisoft has now acquired all rights to the author's name, which frees it up from royalty charges.

"Having no fees, it's going to give us a full return, [so] we've really decided now to go for an MMO on the Clancy name, which is big", Guillemot said during a conference call.

Estimating that an MMO would cost Ubisoft between $40 and $50 million to bring to market, he added that the company already "has the technology to create MMOs... We have lots of games in the Clancy franchise that are already multiplayer. So to create an MMO, we need to have larger teams to actually spend the time to create it."

Ubisoft's UK arm could shed no further light on Tom Clancy MMO plans when contacted this morning. So for now it's a case of watch this space.

who realy cares wot ubisoft are doin when they dont look after the games they have already released? i mean rainbow 6 vegas 2 is only out less than a week and the forums are clogged with people complianing about the online gaming and the lack of suppost from ubisoft who only try and blame the gamer for their games not working!!
ubisoft fix the games you already have out before you bring out new games cos no 1 will buy them from ur abismal track record!!

I dont really see what clancy franchises could be expanded to MMO scale.

The idea of clancy games is small teams/solo in small controlled environments with defined missions. Its not like battlefield and the likes where its Army vs Army, which has reason to be big, and works as big.

Is Clancy just being used as they dont have the balls for a new IP?...I think so

i dont get it... how would a clancy game be turned into an mmo? one huge continuous war? thats the only way i can see it not blowing... oh yea, and no monthly subscription crap
