Infinity Ward "working" on CoD 4's DLC for PC

Logistics causing problems though, apparently
Infinity Ward hasn't forgotten you, PC gamers. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners are preparing for the forthcoming Call of Duty 4 map pack, and now the developer's promised it's working on getting the same content to PC.

"Right now plans for the PC version are unannounced but we are working to bring PC users the same content in the future, however logistics are being worked out on how to make that happen", Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has said on his blog.

We're guessing this means the developer's currently deciding whether or not to risk the wrath of PC gamers and charge for the content, as it's doing on Xbox 360 and PSN. Or leave a long enough gap so console owners don't go nuts about having to pay for something that PC gamers get for free.

Dubbed 'Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack', the content features the four new multiplayer maps Creek, Killhouse, Chinatown and Broadcast. On console it'll cost £6.80, and be out the first week of April for Xbox 360 and around 21 days later for PS3.

i still don't see why there isn't a simultaneous release for Xbox and PS3.

will the PSN only charge £5?

nothings been confirmed as yet. only Microsoft are bumming their customer ragged with the 800 point charge.
Slacher007 on 25 Mar '08
I think its a bit cheeky charging 6.80 for four new maps anyway,I wont be buying them.

If there was a lot new content I could understand a new fee, but four maps, no thanks.

£6.80 worth of MS points. wonder what PSN will charge. MS stupid point system squeezing a few extra pounds out of 360 owners. surely PSN wont charge "£6.80"?!

not exactly fair if pc users get it for free. they get the user maps and their game was already cheaper (or free!)

suppose pc gamers always get it free - whats not really fair is charging consoles for DLC. f**king rip off gimmick most of the time - stuff held back or stuff added to an already poor sized game.

Its the same for all DLC, the more you pay for it the more they will do it.

They need to charge more for games, then put the price up, dont try con people out of money.

The micro transaction market is only going to grow if people keep buying expansions that offer very little.

Its a rip off if you ask me.

How can you say that M$ are bumming customers for £6.80?

I bought Gripshift on the 360 a couple of months ago for the equivalent of £6.80, yet on the PSN it costs £6.99. Not a lot of difference in price, but it's still 19p more expensive, rendering your argument null and void...

Laughing

Don't you just love bulls**t...

They obviously know they can't release four maps to the PC community and ask them to pay for it, so they are intentionally delaying the PC release (by obviously working on the logistics problems Rolling Eyes ).

This way they can charge all us "obviously stupid" console owners over the top, and then release the maps a month or so down the road on the PC whitout to much mess.

I for one am not buying this once it hits PSN, unless it's free or very very... very cheap.
Navid. on 25 Mar '08
Gotta say if this is free on the PC i will not be happy & if its free or cheaper on the PSN!..... then the rivers will run red.... Twisted Evil
hollywood111 on 25 Mar '08
What MS should of done is made the Maps free to gold members (no s******ing at the back) then things like this would justify the XBL fee more....but i guess thats asking for too much... Rolling Eyes
hollywood111 on 25 Mar '08
It should be free anyway !!

Whats worse too is that they are releasing a new version (Disc) with the maps included for free!!

So those that bought it originally are fooked!!

no i dont think they are - u buy the game and inside it is a coupon so u can redeem the DLC for free. doesnt even come on the disc!! u have to think - whats the point almost! DVDs showing their age.

The point is (disc or Coupon) you get the new maps for free if you buy it now, where as if you bought it three months ago, you will have to stump up more for the new maps!!

Its a rip off
Barca Azul on 25 Mar '08
PC owners should pay for it.

£6.80 is not too bad for 4 Maps
but this whole "PC gamer free content" phase should die out, its unfair that PC gamers get more content for free, its bad enough that the game was released £15 less than the console versions

I will buy these maps, since COD4 is my main game at the moment, but I'll wait a bit before I purchase
lotusexcelsa on 25 Mar '08
If they charge for the packs on the PC, they better make sure the game can allow you to play on default maps and only kick you when the new maps starts. The map packs on BF2 were a disaster (SF is a good laugh) but it ended up splitting up players and limited server owners to either running a vanilla server OR one with the expansion packs, there was never the ability to run a mixed server, which allot of ppl would 'ave liked. AF/EF have some nice maps in them but they are fail with respects to players playing them. They need to get them into the main stream, freetards will dictate if they are popular or not.

PC games will always be cheaper as the developers arn't offsetting some of the hardware costs as is the case with the consoles.
Absurdus on 25 Mar '08
No, PC owners should NOT have to pay for the map pack. Wouldn't even be worth it, as we can get loads of custom maps for free. Console owners upset over their £6.80 charge, get over it or don't buy the pack, but demanding PC owners have to pay the same isn't going to help anything. You buy a console because its a cheaper, simpler alternative to a decent gaming PC and as a result you pay more for your games, online service and extra content, and get everything spoonfed to you. Yes, I have a 360 and Wii myself by the way, but games like COD4 I buy on the PC as it's a better platform for games like that.

"PC gamer free content phase should die out" - that's always been the case except for full expansion packs and the odd exception like Oblivion official mods. It's just consoles that have recently started charging (generally overpriced) fees for extra content, if anything should "die out" it's that - although it won't, as it's far too profitable.
KKSlider1337 on 25 Mar '08
As long as I don't have to pay for the maps i don't mind the delay the PC gamers get for the new call of duty maps.
I thinking about getting it on 360 anyway since hardly any of my friends play it on the PC ("which sucks"Wink.

That is some backwards logic, instead of demanding that PC owners also pay, why not ask that no one pays for what something that a good community could produce in a month (for free).
Navid. on 25 Mar '08
£6.80!!!!!!! I can buy an, erm, wotsit, doodah day, errrr magazine or something for that much. Dis-bloody-gusting. Four maps!!! Shocked
Mark240473 on 25 Mar '08
PC paid Downloadable content? Seriously, WTF?

Why is it you always hear the digruntled adolescent voice of a console gamer sqealing about another console getting a bigger piece.

Play your games and instead of letting your balls do the talking guys! Laughing
cornish_pasty on 25 Mar '08
i wont be downloading it anyway because i knocked my 360 off the shelf it was on trying to get my mega drive, and it scratched my call of duty 4 disk Sad

PC owners should pay for it.

Wrong, YOU SHOULDN'T pay for it.

You and your xbox LIVE brothers should stop bending over for MS and saying "Please, please charge me more! I deserve it!" Then blindly defending them for their "great" service Rolling Eyes

It's time to start complaining, they have taken the p**s far to long.
Lok-On on 25 Mar '08
all of you saying that PC gamers should be charged for the content are idiots. why should we have to pay for it when we can get much better content made by modders for free? PC gamers have always been given content for free, and if that changes i dont know anyone who will stand for it.

in the end it comes down to an ultimatum for activision: charge PC gamers for the maps and have absolutely noone buy them, or give them free.

as console gamers you give up the option of mods and alot of other extra content, so if you want it you have a choice to pay or not play it. the PC has always had extra content and its a reason alot of us have chosen it as a gaming platform. if we are forced to pay for it then then PC will die for certain.
djjimmy on 25 Mar '08
LOOK CONSOLE MORONS, YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES - SHUT THE f**k UP AND ACCEPT THAT YOUVE BOUGHT A CONSOLE, OR STOP BLINDLY DEFENDING MICROSOFT AND BEGGING THEM TO CHARGE YOU MORE. RISE UP, THATS WHAT WE DID AND NOW LOOK, WE CAN GET ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING FOR FREE AND NO EVIL CORPORATION DICTATES TO US OR DARES EVER TO MESS WITH US.

ps. if they do release the maps and make pc gamers pay, they will friggin regret it i can guarantee. i only resort to torrents when something like that happens, and im pretty sure everyone else will...
Willforbes on 25 Mar '08
Theres not a chance they'll charge for the maps on the PC simply because only a few would buy them seeing as theres already so much other free stuff and mods out there

As for the console kiddies moaning about the act that the PC community may not be charged, well.....you bought a damn console!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

M$ wouldnt even allow Epic to release free stuff for GoW whats the chances of getting anything free off M$?
lmimmfn on 26 Mar '08
PC owners should pay for it.

Fook off and do your homework. The PC community were the making of Infinity Ward, and they know this.

One of the main reasons they arn't releasing the PC pack for free simultaneously with console versions is becouse of the backlash they'd face from whinging bitches like you.
Biz4rre on 4 Apr '08
My mate used 800 points on his 360. Isn't that technically free?
