Xbox Live Video Marketplace is set to receive original video shows from Hollywood producer Peter Safran, according to the New York Times.
The producer says that the shows will be around ten minutes long, scripted (i.e. not Big Brother 360) and will be part of a genre that appeals to 14-34 year-old males. We'll look forward to Halo Jackass, then.
Safran is responsible for rubbish big screen flicks Meet the Spartans and Jiminy Glick in Lalawood, though hopefully he'll fare better on Microsoft's digital distribution service than he did in the cinema.
The US is set to get the shows this autumn, but Europe's not likely to see them (if at all) until some time after.
But if all that doesn't get you excited, Microsoft promises it's only the beginning of a line of original video content on Xbox Live: "We definitely look at this as the first of many," said Xbox Live marketing man Scott Nocas.
Do enough people use Video Marketplace to warrant decent original content? Surely this is going to be sub-Channel 5 tripe...?
I would use the videomarket place if we had similar content to the US. At present only 300 & Transformers are the real big newish blockbusters they have, but I have the on hd-dvd anyway.
I downloaded 300 and was quite impressed with the quality. I also liked the fact that you start watching the film and it continues to download the last half whilst you watch the first. That was you're not waiting around like a lemon for hours on end.
However, the attraction of video on demand is limited, given the fact that most films are back of the video shop ten year old tat. Who wants to download Wild Wild West for crying out loud? Wicky wicky wah...

This is getting very old. What is so good about xbox arcade? Mmmm, lots of old arcade titles with the same old graphics? Check. There are a couple of stand-out titles on the market place including Geometry Wars and Rez and the rest are very meh. At least on PSN we have titles like Warhawk, GT5, Tekken HD with WipeoutHD coming soon. Xbox arcade games are not even in the same league. The truth. Oh, and I can download ps1 games to my psp.
