Connection problems plagued users trying to download the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack this weekend, as Xbox Live struggled to meet demand for the popular FPS's first download content.
During the release users experience various connection errors on Xbox Live, while redeeming Microsoft Points became impossible for others. Thankfully, according to Infinity Ward community man Robert Bowling, it's now safe to back onto Xbox Live:
"Just a heads up that it looks like Marketplace is back on it's feet and running as normal. You should have no problem buying or redeeming the new Variety Map Pack," Bowling said on his semi-official blog. "If you tried yesterday when it was down and received an Invalid Code error, be sure to retry today with the same code."
Bowling also provided an update for PS3 and PC owners waiting for the maps, and it doesn't look like they'll have to wait much longer:
"We've been preparing for the launch of the new maps on the PS3 as well via PSN," he said. "So we should have details on that in the near future (hopefully next week).
"On the PC side of things the Patch is in queue to finish internal QA for release," he added. We wonder if the (free) PlayStation Network will break as well?
Update: For the record, the boss exclusively played the Variety Map Pack ALL weekend and didn't have a single problem. Apart from nearly ending up single on Saturday night.
I had these problems on the release day but downnloaded them fine the next day, the only problem I have now is that I've played online loads of times since and not played on one of the new maps yet, anyone else had this problem? I feel conned now!
^ Did you select to play the variety maps at the bottom of your screen?
I had major problems getting on friday night but after that is was fine, out of all the maps I think broadcast is the best. Wasn't really feeling chinatown but they are all a good addition to the maps already there.
Hopefully another pack will be launched in another 4 months to keep my interest in the game!

Variety maps aren't mixed in with your regular ones - scroll to the bottom of the game type list, there you will see 'Variety Pack Team Deathmatch', 'Variety Pack Team Objective' and 'Variety Pack Team Hardcore' to select from. Pick one of those and find some love for Creek.
For the record, I had no issues either, other than Friday night trying to join with another mate, who came on line about an hour after the rest of us. Apparently he had a new version. Bizarre. Turns out it was the hardcore variety pack. Bit of an oversight that me thinks.

No I didn't (Now I feel like a right f**king idiot!). I was assuming the maps would be automatically incorporated into the standard match making games (obviously taken into account those that do have the map pack a bit like Halo). s**t I'm at work now and won't be able to try out the new maps till gone 6! Cheers anyway.

Cheers Marty, I'll try that (when I get home tonight).

You've also maybe missed a full weekend of Double XP points that you got from playing the new maps only, but it may still be double XP tonight then stop tomorrow! Fingers Crossed!
I just couldn't get them downloaded on Saturday - kept getting the error code - but the whole of live was laggy then. Got them easily on Sunday am when all the yanks were asleep and had great fun on them. Haven't got to try killhouse yet but all the others are fantastic.
Are they pricing these like the Halo and Gears maps, where they're gonna be free after a few months? Cos 800 points seems like a rip-off for 4 maps to me.
Downloaded mine last night, no probs up & playing within half an hour... awesome new maps, just genius...
Downloaded them on Saturday w/o any problems at all, played them quite a bit this weekend, along w/Lost Odyssey.
Don't know of anyone else having problems w/the maps, either...weird. Regardless, they are excellent, the double XP weekend rocked, and having XBL certainly paid dividends this weekend--all of the team games had people actually talking and using teamwork, and other than the one-off annoying kid that shouldn't be playing anyway that I had to mute, it was excellent.
Took me 45 mins just to even start downloading & after that the update wouldn't work so played PES for an hour & then the update worked, but by that time I was far too 'refreshed' to be of use to anyone online. Creek is pick of the bunch though, good to get on the ridge with the old M16 & pick off the other team.
I must have been one of the lucky ones. I managed to download the maps within 10 minutes of starting the download, and have had no problem playing them or with Marketplace. So... ner ner ner.
Loving Broadcast and Chinatown so far. Creek I'm still getting used to, because when I move one inch I get sniped in the nose. Haven't played Killhouse yet.
