Can you stop Uwe Boll making more movies?

Director says he'll cease if online petition hits more than a million
Uwe Boll has said that he'll stop making movies if an online petition calling for him to never work again has a million signatures.

The director, responsible for Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne and the upcoming Postal, dismissed the current total of 18,000 in an interview with FearNet, claiming it's not enough.

You can view and sign the petition in question by clicking here. Interestingly, the petition is currently endorsed by 32,307 signatures. That's a whopping 14,000 more than stated in the interview that was posted merely days ago.

*click* Make than 32,308 now.

Hey, at least people don't go to see his films in vast numbers, and with the German tax breaks he gets I doubt anything will stop him.

It's the people who make those abysmal 's****' movies that should be stopped;Meet The Spartans, Superhero Movie etc etc terrible films and yet they're regularly in the top 10 - often hitting number one!!- in both the UK and the USA!

And I think giving Boll this sort of publicity is playing right into the critic-boxing tw+t's hands.

I couldn't agree more, those s**** movies are awful, people complain how bad they are but still go and see them! Have you not learned your lesson? Anyway I just signed that petition too!
Anything to stop that cretin making more horrendous films.
spooney100 on 7 Apr '08
What does it matter? - I've never seen one of his films and don't plan to.....

Now, if only there was a petition like this for Kate Nash, Jack Penate and the Wombats to stop making music, I'd be in...

I'll sign it only if Postal doesn't make me laugh.
As long as he makes them funny I don't care really.

I would rather watch one of his movies than another crappy sequel split over 2 movies (Matrix / Pirates).

It could be a bad thing though - he may move into TV, and such a move would be fitting for itv Dramas.

This is the most disgusting, immature, and offensive poll I've ever seen.

Everyone is entitled to express themselves in any way they choose. If you don't like it, just ignore it. But asking for him to never make movies again is just mindlessly offensive to me.

All these people who think it's funny to slag him off, it just sickens me. Not because his movies are good or bad, but for what it represents and the closed-mindedness of people everywhere.
Karis on 7 Apr '08
I had the recent privilege of watching House of the Dead and must say it was among the worst things I have ever seen, including school pantomimes and TV commercials. A movie so wince-inducing that I was ashamed to play videogames by the time I turned it off.

While I'm not going to sign the petition because of the immaturity of it, I can underdstand why fans would want him to stop.

Why doesn't he try something original? Why does he have to associate his movies with a videogame? Maybe if he looked more at movies like Bad Taste, or more recently Black Sheep, he may feel more at home. Cheesy acting and poor (ie. stupid) storylines, but both were good films!

We're not asking him to stop making movies, just to stop making movies based on videogames. It's not that a small minority think they have sucked, critics do too. If he tried something original then it might be a different story.

I find it hilariously hypocritical that you espouse open-minded and freedom of expression and them condemn this petition, a form of expression. Like you said 'just ignore it'.

Oh don't try to turn my comment around as double-standards. You know QUITE WELL that it's not. It's a ridiculous argument.

People are being ultimately closed-minded to the point of cruelty, while I'm saying it's not only ignorant, it's unfair.

Everyone is allowed artistic licence. If this poll were harmless, I've had ignored it (indeed, I saw this poll months ago when it only had a few thousand names on it). Admittedly, Boll made a mistake commenting on it - that was his second major mistake.

And BOLL has made other movies. Seed and Postal - while Seed was awful, Postal was by no means terrible - yet it got heaped with the others. Boll and his big mouth is his own worst enemy but this poll is just appalling. That people are clamouring to crush someone's dreams, I just find that sickening.

But to compare my post to that abysmal poll - that's just rubbish.

Truth.

Never seen a Boll movie. I might see Postal.

But what you say is completely right. I was just about to sign my signature when I thought, wait a minute, this is not the way forward. Many people who sign this petition will never have seen a Boll movie in the first place, but yet because of mob mentality they will be willing to put a mans career and dignity on the line. I have no doubt this poll will reach its 1 million limit, but before you sign, think about your reasoning behind signing it.

And to be quite honest, his films look hillariously bad, e.g. funny, perhaps not funny in the way Boll intended, but funny none the less. So to re-itterate a point from earlier, why are we letting these *Potential* comedic gems (potential) go to waste when films like "Meet the Spartans" are still being churned out?

Perhaps I'm taking this too seriously, but still, a poll to stop boll from making movies?
lol.

No. What is disgusting is the way he rapes game franchises for a tax loss. He is in theory ruining the reputation of games franchises for his own gain at German/European tax payers expense.

Now what is worse getting the hell out of the business or allowing him to continue to take a little bit more money of your pocket to line his own when you don't even want to see the film?

Still NO reason for asking for him to never make another movie again. There is just NO comparison whatsoever!

And being saddened at another's attitude does not make that person immature. You're just trying to justify yourself and ease your own conscience by deflecting the blame.

In other news: I noticed the poll had shot up by 20,000 votes overnight...

I wonder when Mr Boll will start to get worried...

Sigh. Note that I said normally. Yes producers can have veto power and are even able to choose the director, but again it is the directors job to handle the creative aspect of making the 'vision' into an actual film. If the producer doesn't like it they can replace the director, but all they do then is hire another director to make the film. The producer does not create the film. Why do you think the director is blamed if the movie crashes?
