Mario Kart Wii has sold over three hundred thousand units in its native country of Japan, reports are suggesting.
According to gaming website Jeux France, the title has racked up the sales after being out for just over twenty-four hours.
If true, it would mean Mario Kart has already beaten Wii Fit - which sold 250,000 in first week - but not Super Smash Brothers. Brawl that somehow racked up half a million sales on its first day.
Of course, Jeux France doesn't indicate how it knows this, so we might find out that only an elderly pensioner and a four year old girl bought the game yesterday. Based on the amount of people we've seen online though, we doubt it.
so that's were my play.com pre-order went. well i hope you all enjoy it. only nintendo could f**k a european launch up this badly.
what do you mean? i went into woolworths todays and picked it up no problem, and the game is great.
it would seem that online retailers are reporting a shortage of stock. i ordered with play 2 months ago and got an e-mail back last week saying that they couldn't fulfill my pre-order due to lack of stock from nintendo. amazon are the same, game too. i'm currently waiting on gamestation.co.uk to see if there's a copy available. i should have went with the high street, online retailers are too unreliable.
Ordered with Gamestation.com two weeks ago. Got a call on Tuesday to say they were processing it (after having to change the delivery address from work to home since they had another name on their system for that address, so it was flagged a fraudulent?), come home today, and nothing, whereas a mate has managed to get one by walking into a shop (in a town with no dedicated games stores). If it's not here tomorrow, I can sense a mardy e-mail winging it's way to Gamestation's office.
Sounds like it was a good idea preordering, as I got down to Game a few hours ago to pick up my copy and I kid you not, I was the fifth person in a row to pick up a copy! Madness!

the funny thing is my local woolworths had loads and it was only 32.99 which is a great price for the superb game. really tho guys i hate if a game ddosent arrive on time when your already paid for it, i hope it comes tomoss.if it dosent go into somewhere like a supermarket, tesco, asda or woolworths. when you do get it ill see you online
I feel for you guys not getting it from your online orders, I just walked into the local Gamestation, no pre-order or anything, picked it off the shelves and took it homw to sample the goodness.
Walked into my local game, got student discount so bought it for about 31 quid. Got another wheel as well (8 quid). I also used my Christmas Game voucher and £5 off from my reward card - comes to a grand total of about 15 quid
How are people finding trouble finding this game? Every shop I go into had piles and piles of them stacked up. I just walked into my local Blockbuster and took one off the shelf.
I suppose its possible as its well aimed between casual and core gamers
Its obviously possible because Mario Kart has a hardcore following just like Smash Bros does. Smash Bros has sold way more but nobody believes that half those sales were to casual gamers.
Facts are people will have to accept that hardcore Nintendo fans-not just casual gamers-own a Wii as well. And as a result, proper games can, and will, sell well.
Well said! This is a fact that most Sony and Microsoft fanboys fail to realise and understand. The Wii is not just the domain of the casual user, but people like myself. Old-school gamers who enjoy the purity and simplicity of Nintendo's core franchises.
Playing the new Mario Kart has reminded me that gameplay will always triumph over expensive, realistic, HD graphics every time (try GT5 prologue).

I just walked into Game and picked up one of the many boxes off the shelf. I never buy online anymore as I always have trouble getting my order on time. The only online shop that was reliable was Lik-Sang (i usually got my order in 3 days from hongkong!) and Sony put them out of business!
I did however have trouble getting a second stearing wheel.
What an amazing game though. I have not experienced the slightest bit of lag yet and the whole online aspect just works so well. All they need to do is scrap the stupid friend codes and they would have a rival for live.
picked up 2 copies on friday 7.20am at my local Asda and they had already sold loads of them. people coming in at 6am to buy a copy. now that's hardcore!
online is great fun. i like the fact you can see where in the world the other players are from. The Japanese players seems to have a penchant for the motorbikes. quite a lot of female players too. all good stuff.
