Sega has slapped a demo of sci-fi RTS Universe at War: Earth Assault on Xbox Live, so you can make your own decision on the shaky 'does it work with a joypad' debate yourself.
The demo weighs in at just under 550MB (in case the size actually makes a difference on your download decision) and lets you sample a section of the latest RTS from the boys and girls and Petroglyph, who used to work on Command & Conquer, don't you know.
You can read the review of the PC version right here, which tells us the game's quite good, but not brilliant.
Look out for a summary on the Xbox 360 version, controls and all, shortly.
Try C&C Tiberium Wars for the xbox, that's a fairly good port of an RTS to console. It's pretty good, although someone is still yet to master the conversion to console. (Come on Halo Warssss!)
The demo completely sucks, but I bought the game on PC recently and it's one of the most fun RTS games I've ever played. C&C3 bores me to tears, but Universe At War has such diverse and innovative factions that it's kept me very entertained thus far. OK so it's not perfect, but it's definitely worth a look.
