Nintendo targets Mario Kart cheats

The Time Trial cheaters' days are numbered
Nintendo is working at solving the problems Mario Kart Wii cheaters have posed by posting unbeatable times in the Time Trial mode, a rep has told us.

Snaking may be gone, but that hasn't stopped gamers finding other ways to bend the rules of Mario Kart.

By driving only one of the three laps in a Time Trial run, then turning round to face the wrong way, cheaters have found a way to trick the game into giving them record-smashing times that are simply unbeatable by normal standards.

But Nintendo is on the case. "We have only been made aware of this in the past two/three days since release," Nintendo told CVG, after angry witnesses of the exploit hit internet forums like a herd of angry, chest-beating apes.

"At this stage we are looking into it," the rep added. Reports are claiming that Nintendo has already began deleting the dodgy times from the online leaderboards one at a time.

We doubt a patch will be used, purely because of the lack of storage on Wii for such things. Maybe a server change or user banning could be in order?

Either way, something must be done...

Ill never understand cheating like this. Yes you could be at the top of the leaderboard, but you'll know your not the best and thanks to the downloadable ghosts, everyone else will as well.

Totaly agree mate, i hate f..king cheaters. Rolling Eyes

Absolute disgrace to the gaming community! Evil or Very Mad

PS: The new bikes rule and I couldn't get use to the wheel, so I use my Cube pad. Wink

It's called a "bug" in your software ffs Ninty...cheats or s**te pre release play-testing, P45's all around!!
Tonyb on 14 Apr '08
About time they fixed this. I downloaded a ghost from Lugis Circuit that had a finish time of about 1 min flat. At the end of the 2nd lap he does a 180 turn on the finish line and stops, then it pops up saying you are 99.9 seconds behind the cheating c**t.

cheaters have found away to trick the game

Proof-read much CVG?

Back to the point, people that do this should be hung, drawn and quartered.

Shoddy play testing I think. That should be something tested before release.

Cheaters will always exist. Look at the number of fools who used to cheat at online games like Counter Strike... even the idiots who used to firewall their PCs to cheat Halo 2 online. Why do it! It's far better to feel superior because you are than to cheat and not have really achieved anything. It happens in the real world, look at the number of athletics drug related incidents.

Unfortunately cheats exist, they do it for their own selfish reasons and cause problems for the masses of people who don't cheat.

I actually kinda like the wheel, but I like it more when you set the drifting to manual.

I think these cheaters are idiots but blame nintendo they released a game that doesn't work, in effect they broke time trial mode.

People will try anything to get at the top of an online leaderboard. They actually do make me really annoyed and sick! Get a f**kin' life.

They really need to get a girlfriend or start watching more porn. Simple as
bermudaviper on 15 Apr '08
That's all good, but what about the f**king cheaters in online race's? I'm sick of racing, overtaking someone by a country mile then suddenly seeing them magically appear in front of me.

To be honest you cant really put the blame on Nintendo and their game testing unit. It all boils down to the fact as already mention there are people out there that will always try and cheat the system no matter what protection and testing has been put into place. The main thing is that Nintendo are aware of it and from what i have seen these are being removed, Considering how long Nintendo can take to do things i think they've done a really good job!
GhandisRevenge on 15 Apr '08
TBH i think that cheating should only be done when you have finished the game in single player for fun not so you can go oh look at me i'm top of a leaderboard that no one gives a rats bottom about

Good Point! Laughing

Nintendo doing a good job would be making an external hard drive onto which they could install patches and the like to fix problems like this rather than just spending ages removing people one by one. Afterall it won't stop people continuing to cheat.
