Wii won't be the only console to have its own BBC iPlayer site, as the BBC looks to support PS3 "in due course".
The head of digital media technology at BBC, Anthony Rose, has admitted he was impressed at the internet wizard that had managed to get the Wii-specific iPlayer working on PS3, but says it's only a matter of time before the BBC does it officially.
"Our aim is to make BBC iPlayer available on a broad range of devices," he said, adding, "we'd love to be on every popular device tomorrow, including the PS3."
This takes time though, apparently. "We're investigating the optimal video profile and browser proposition to enable us to officially make iPlayer available on PS3 in due course," said Rose on an official blog.
For now, PS3 owners will have to keep up with episodes of 'Murder, She Wrote' either on PC, or through the unofficial community-built PS3 iPlayer site.
its nothing to do with coding. its control. Sony and MS want their own interfaces, BBC wants it to have THEIR own interface. Nintendo said "hey, whatever you wanna do, BBC", so BBC made it for their system. Sony and MS just need to let go of the reigns for a change and let BBC have design control over its media player. Soon as Sony and MS say "sure", you'll see it on those systems too.
Firstly, the BBC hasnt said the xbox wont be getting this, secondly, the xbox is already getting the BT iplayer(exclusivly) and thirdly with the us marketplace getting thousands of films and tv shows as they appear on tv/dvd I would hardly say the ps3 is ahead of the media war
I hardly think the xbox is dying a death, a machine that is millions ahead on sales, innovating modern technology, getting all big third party games as well as a string of major exclusives this year, on top of having the backing of the worlds biggest company seems to leave the xbox in quite a strong position.
Wow the ability to watch BBC content on a console, that's ground breaking news...Frankly WTF cares.
I'd see the point if the BBC actually had any content worth watching, but besides Top Gear its a who's who of depressingly bad TV programs.
Its bad enough that we have to pay a license fee for the garbage that the BBC are shovelling, but now they are trying to provide garbage on demand via consoles. Sorry but that fails to excite me even in the slightest.
I find it strange that they seemed reluctant to work with Sony at first, but now that someone has cracked it on PS3, they've turned round and gone "Oh ok fine, we'll do it".
I think this'll be great when it launches as a Channel on the Wii =D
one thing people u seem to ALL forget - the ps3 IS SUPPOSED TO BE A GOD DAMN GAMES CONSOLE
who gives a fcuk about the BBC IPLAYER - u have SKY TV for that and your PC.
concentrate of giving your consumers what they bought the fax machine, printer, sorry console for in the first place GAMES GAMES GAMES. Is that too much to ask.
