TrackMania Nations Forever is now available to download for free, and features single-player and multiplayer modes, a track editor and 65 new circuits.
For anyone not familiar with the series, TrackMania's a PC racer with a HUGE emphasis on arcade action, and has become a cult hit.
"TrackMania Nations Forever will allow the convergence of the huge TrackMania community", says publisher Ascaron.
"For the first time, players of the free versions will now be able to play online with players from the retail version of the new TrackMania United Forever. This is achieved by using servers dedicated to the Stadium environment common to both games."
No catch, Trackmania Nations was free and did really well and was very popular, so now they're doing it again with even more features. This game is brilliant online. Especially on big servers.
There's no way I'm going to let Trackmania infest my system with that filth, even if they are giving it away, unless they've removed the Starforce drivers from it.
I'd recommend y'all go and do some serious research on 'Starforce' before considering downloading this freebie, it may well be more trouble than it's worth.
I used to love trackmania sunrise so have downloaded this (took no time at all) now you guys have reminded me about starforce...im slightly less keen. Will try it later
Guys, TMNations never had any copy protection. Only the non-free Trackmanias, like United, used Starforce. The latest Forever update removes it from those also.
Do not worry, it does NOT have Starforce crap - never had, never will.
Yeah, there was a big fuss over the last free version being rammed to the gills with StarForce, with lots of people asking why a free game would need such destructive copy protection routines.
Every source I've found concerning this release seems to think it's still got the badness included, too, so I'll be giving this a miss. Shame really.
I've been looking around all night for confirmation but after reading a lot of posts at the Trackmania Forums saying it's clean, I just took their word for it and installed it.
