Darkness sequel in the works?

Comic book publisher says sequel on the way
The sequel to The Darkness is under development, according to the creator of the source material, comic book publisher Top Cow Productions.

Speaking at NY Comic Con 2008, staff from the comic book publisher responded to a QA question about the game by saying: "We can't say Darkness and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, Darkness. Wink. Sequel."

The Darkness was a moderate hit last year, coming out in the void just before BioShock. At least two members of the CVG team completed it, instead of throwing it away after a couple of levels. In some circles, that says more than a 10/10 from Edge.

It's currently unclear whether the sequel is being handled by original developer Starbreeze Studios. Last we heard, it was working on a mystery title known as Project RedLime (rumours suggested it was System Shock 3).

Good stuff. The original was great and criminally overlooked.

the first was an amazing game, i'm really pleased with this news.

Agreed with you two. I loved this game. My only stipulation is, of course, Mike Patton HAS to be doing the voice for The Darkness.

Agreed!

The only bits that grated for me were the sections in WW1. Apart from that i played nothing but this game until i finished it.

Let's hope they just put all of their efforts into the single player, and leave multiplayer to the professionals. The multiplayer in the first game was crap. It was almost like the devs though "well...we have to have multiplayer in this day and age!"

WRONG!

This is great news! I love The Darkness, one of my favourite xbox 360 games. Was hoping for confirmation of a sequel and am now officialy chuffed.

The original was sadly one of the few games out there that inexplicably gives me terrible motion sickness. I don't know what it is because I play tons of FPS games but I felt like I was going to puke after half an hour of The Darkness.

Hopefully I won't have the same problem with a sequel, because I was quite gutted to miss out. Sad

I loved the first one, when I bought it I wasn't sure, but played it right the way through until I finished it. Keep meaning to go back and have another go and try and get some of the achievements I missed.

Hopefully it will have an indepth story like the first one, that set it apart from other games I've played recently.

Loved the original, even though it was rather short. Hopefully they put more effort into the multi-player with the sequel as the original's just felt tacked on.

good news on a second game. some things that would make it a dead cert for myself though.

1- make it longer

2- give me a last boss fight that will make me sweat

3- make the game harder

If they all happen then im sold Smile

I think it's all agreed in this post that the original was AWESOME. I still can't bear to part with it, despite completing it. The second would be a welcome addition to my collection.

Multiplayer was pants though. Doesn't add anything to the game as it's really a solo experience.

First one was awesome, hope this is as good.

sweet! I can't wait, the first darkness game was awesome. I enjoyed it more than bioshock actually Very Happy

Great news this, loved the first except for the WW1 sections.
dwhlufc on 21 Apr '08
great i need to know the rest of the story, i hope jenny is alive, but i guess thats too easy, not much i'd change about the game, perhaps some sort of online co-op mode instead of dodgy deathmatch?? and yeah it culd be longer

I thought the original was dire. I played it through to completion and kept hoping it would rise above average and that The Darkness powers would actually enhance the gameplay is some sort of meaningful way which never happened. Maybe a sequel will address the shortcomings of the original, but will probably just plough further down the rut the original was stuck in.

Yeah the original was a great game(360 version, ps3 one stuttered badly).

I'd be very interested in the sequel.
