Huge UT III mod whets PS3 appetites

Tactical Ops 3 on the way for PC - PS3 support tipped
The latest edition of a popular Unreal Tournament mod, Tactical Ops 3, could be on its way to the PS3 version of UT III.

Hardcore fans will recognise Tactical Ops as the hit game-changing mod that brought fast-paced modern-day combat to UT back in 2000.

The third edition, currently in the works for PC, hopes to do the same with UT III, and may even be ported to PS3.

"Eventually we do wish to support the PS3 and the XBOX 360," said one TO3 programmer, known as StuD on the official forums.

PC mods can usually simply be converted for use on PS3 without a problem, but the team says that the controls would be an issue. "I am not sure if [PS3 support] will make the first release since the controller classes have to be written for each additional platform," added StuD.

Epic still plans to get mods onto the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III, even if it has to take them in-house to get it done.

For those of you who know nothing of the Tactical Ops series, here's the official blurb:

"This modification of UT3 will focus on capturing the original TO feel, with all the updated goodies UT3 has to offer. The Tactical Ops series focuses on fast, action-packed gameplay, pitting terrorists against Special Forces in the most deadly scenarios."

The team promises a range of modern weapons to shoot on a wide selection of maps, both remade versions of old favourites and some new locations.

If you're a fan, keep an eye on this one.

Why would the controls be an issue if the PS3 version of UT3 suports keyboard and mouse, or have i just misunderstood the situation completely?

omg..omg...omg...this would be insane!i loved the older versions on the pc.
whats the deal with the control problems?erm..anyone who plays ut3 on ps3 uses keyboard/mouse. mainly for the fact..anyone who didnt would get chewed up by MK players.

awesome.

Tac Ops was a great mod back in the day, heh, and even rivalled Counterstrike brilliance. I preferred it, myself.

Lookign forward to seeing this new version in whatever form it takes, on whatever platform. Might have to pick up UT3 for it....

I used to love tactical Ops when it was free. Unfortunately it changed for the worse when it went commercial Confused

Let's hope this is a return to form.

It only cost me Ł40 too.

May be a bit difficult to get it to run on 256mb of RAM (both 360 and PS3 versions).
