Sony unveils PSP video download service

Sony and Sky venture brings subscription/pay-per-view video service to PSP this summer
Sony has just unveiled Go!View, a new video download service for PSP.

Created in conjunction with Sky, the new service will allow you to download and watch programmes and films on your portable.

"This summer, PlayStation and Sky will launch Go!View, the first official PlayStation Portable video download service in Europe. Go!View will provide a wealth of programming from the worlds of entertainment, comedy, sport and movies for PSP owners to enjoy in addition to their usual gaming experience," says Sony.

Content downloaded can be arranged into your own TV schedule, according to the company.

"Go!View gives PSP users the chance to watch their favourite programmes on either a subscription or pay-per-view basis. Once registered on the Go!View website, users will be able to easily download content to the PSP via their PC."

No content, prices or exact release dates were offered, with "summer" as accurate as it gets for launch a the moment. More info soon...

WOW is there any stopping sony????

I use my PSP every day going to and from work.

Woohoo!

its a great addition for psp owners, makes me wonder if sony wil lbe teaming up with sky for the ps3 download service, surely its jackpot if they have as sky is massive. I'd love to see some sort of sky/psp/ps3 integration in the future, possibilities are endless. I admit, i rarely use my psp as If I have game time its on my ps3, but i do want to start using it more, for things such as god of war, and also as a film/music player for my bedroom tv

Woohoo!

So it isn't just me who enjoys Psp games?!

Lovin' the FF Crisis Core! Best Psp game yet.

This sky deal could be good too.

Does this mean I have to take out a further Sky subscription (Like the Ł10 per month extra for "Sky multi-room"Wink for my PSP?

If so then sorry, I'll skip it. Nice idea though. Sad
steve_2003 on 24 Apr '08
Sounds very interesting indeed!!

What happened to the TV tuner though? Did it ever come out?

Plus will this be linked to play TV, I hope so!!

Iam not pay for something that i can get for free on SKY anytime. If it is free people with SKY then I'll get it, if not I'll pass

In regards to games, I think publishers are realising that they overlooked the possibility on the PSP and are now looking at stuff.

They realised people dont always want the same game for PSP as the console. Plus I think you will also see a lot more PSone/two stuff too in the future.

Lots of people also use it for playing Megadrive games and so on too.

Sales in Japan are massive currently too.

I just hope this works with the Fatty version!!

Flogged my PSP to get a DS, purely due to lack of good UK titles. Now I am considering getting a new one, this does seem like a good idea.

Just recently got a PSP when I traded in loads of old 360 games.

Very happy with it at the moment except the low battery life.
Ragon on 24 Apr '08
The problem in The Netherlands is that the free WiFi spots do almost not exist and the paid WiFi spots aren't located well enough. That is one reason the PSP isn't really being used to it's full potential by me and many of my friends.
VesNL on 24 Apr '08
I'm not flaming, but the PSP isn't really a handheld games colsole at all is it? It's a snazzy portable multimedia-centre, but games aren't exactly it's strongest point are they?
AlbertStoots on 24 Apr '08
I think its like somebody said in an earlier post, devs were not making games specifically for psp, until recently and we have god of war as a great example, no I think devs realise they can make and optimise the games for handheld and they turn out great. So i think aswell as these multimedia addons which are great, we should start seeing more good games too
anagi on 24 Apr '08
A good idea in principle but if Sky have anything to do with it you can guarantee that there'll be extra cash involved!

Just look at what the cheeky sh1ts do over boxing...an extra Ł15 to watch the Hatton and Calzaghe fights even though I've got their full sports package!
Tonyb on 24 Apr '08
Will this be as good as the psp movie download service run through amazon set to start early 2008, or the 7000 psone games available by the end of 2007, or the psp launch title gran turismo.............Or is it just another big fat sony lie to help shift their conceptually flawed jack of no trades ipodboystation unportable

Is this another monopaly for Evil Empreor Murdoch?

Wheres our freeview HD boxes?

And can each of my sentences continue being questions?
Confused

HDTV has recently just been shared amongst other companys.By 2011 or something most of Britian will have HD freeview instead of it being kinda exclusive to sky apart from bbc hd on virgin.Although what i don't understand is why Virgin didnt make their own channel VIRGIN1 in HD.

Am I missing something? Do you need a PC for this to work?

If so, why not buy a bog standard TV/Hybrid/Satellite TV card and record the TV programs to the PC HDD and then simply transfer/convert them onto the PSP...cheaper and no subscription.

... or PlayTV.

...which costs how much?

and has limited HDD capacity especially with all those mandatory installs.

I for one see this as another thing for the psp,I got the gocam and its good.I got lots of games but dont work night shifts anymore so I dont play them often.Sony need to do one thing Blueray movies with psp converted file on them, this would spur me to buy blueray movies and not cheaper dvd titles of the same thing.PsP there is so much it can do and no end in sight, nintendo ofer games we ofer the world.
