Bourne game too violent for Matt Damon

Actor WAS in negotiations for likeness and voice to be used, apparently
Matt Damon's not too keen on the level of violence in the The Bourne Conspiracy game.

MTV reports that negotiations were underway to get his voice and likeness in the game, but the actor "took issue with the game's level of violence and pulled out."

Damon's played black ops assassin Jason Bourne in three movies, the last being The Bourne Ultimatum. It would have been great to see him reprise his role in the videogame, but unfortunately that ain't happening.

What?! lol
I always though the Bourne films were pretty violent in terms of the hand to hand combat so I don't see what his issue was...
Either way it's a huge loss for the game as it would have sold much better based on the films rather than the book.

Matt Damon is an ugly bastard anyway!
funkyjack on 29 Apr '08
Because the films were such a wonderful fluffy celebration of peace and love.

The game is too violent for Matt Damon, HYPOCRITE!!! I mean WTF!!!

Let's look at Matt Damon's film career and see if there is any violence, some of it gratuitous!

Obviously the Bourne Trilogy (and soon to be Quadrilogy), where he stabs people with pens, shoots people and is an all round bad ass black op's assassin....cant seem to see any violence there, can anyone else?

Saving Private Ryan, that was a fluffy war movie, where they replaced machine guns with walky talkies, surely there was no violence, blood or gore in this one was there?

Talented Mr Ripley, he plays a cold blooded killer who kills someone and then takes over there life...nope, dont see any violence in that one either...

Damn, Matt Damon isnt a hypocrite, he hasnt done ANY violence in any movie he has ever been, even when he played an Angel in Dogma, he didnt not do any sort of violence at all.

In fact, I spoke with Matt Damon 15 minutes ago for a quote and this is what he had to say "Matt Damon, Matt Damon, MATT DAMON!"

Matt Damon needs a nice cup of shut the f up or he will end up like Bono and Sean Penn

To be fair though, we don't know the context of his objection or its wording and this is 3rd hand information. It's not like he's issued a press release decrying games as violent and dangerous.
JimSteele on 29 Apr '08
Maybe he's been shacked up with Jack Thompson for a week or so.
Waste_Manager on 29 Apr '08
bourne only used violence when it was required so i can see his point if action and violence is the main theme of the game.

i would be very surprised if the game resembles the books or films in anything but name.
pishers on 29 Apr '08
What? How many violent films has that guy been in? I watched The Departed last night and it definatley had violent scenes. Besdies his Bourne movies he must have been in at least another dozen. I don't think one game is going to hurt is it Maaaaaaaat Daaammoooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnn?
Bearskopff on 29 Apr '08
Maaaaatt Daaammmoooonn.
boskersrevenge on 29 Apr '08
Maybe it wasn't the fact that it was violent. Maybe it's that he felt the game had gone too far and that it wasn't what he considered a Bourne game should be, like pishers has suggested?

Maybe he thinks the game is nothing like the Bourne films/books and has a feeling it's going to flop and be crap because it is focusing on violence more than the storyline? If that's the case I doubt he'd want to associated with it.
benf90 on 29 Apr '08
Bah, rubbish actor anyway. The game will do better without him. At least the money saved on hiring the man can go to somebody who can do decent voice work. The rest of the cash could actually go into advertising or maybe even into the production of the game itself.
potnoodle1 on 29 Apr '08
i watched the departed last night myself...how he can say that games too violent after being in that film is a joke! it had so many shootings in it...and i f**king loved it! especially jack nicholson, he was great in it.
