New details for Ubisoft's new Prince of Persia game have emerged online, including screens of a new art direction influenced by cell-shading and magna.
According to a translation of a preview from French magazine Joypad, the story is more like a fable than the original titles, with the Prince fighting to heal a world corrupted by evil god who the Prince accidentally released from imprisonment.
The time rewind mechanics have been removed, but the Prince can slide along walls using a glove. Environments will be as much a vertical game as it's horizontal. Those who suffer with Vertigo should not play.
Apparently, the initial design was more influenced by the 'open world' of Assassin's Creed, but the developers found players got lost quickly. The game will now be more structured, but still not as linear as the previous games.
We think it sounds and looks like it's taken a healthy dose of inspiration from Legend of Zelda, which is all good by us. No word on a release date, yet.
The screens look swell (love cel shading), and the game sounds intriguing. Now, as long as they can make sure it's not as boring as Assassin's Creed...
Glad to see that they are re-inventing PoP again, I think the 'Sands' story line had more or less run it's course.
The screens look good, however the description of a glove that lets you slide along the way seems a bit odd, though I'm sure it will make sense once it's seen in action!
the concept art is f**king slick, really like the idea.
That isn't concept art is it? I thought that was graphics from the game? With the high resolutions of modern consoles, it'll be hard to say for certain until someone proves either way.
I hope these are in-game graphics because it looks brilliant. Kind of reminiscent of Okami. There's far too many grey/brown gouraud-shaded games, particularly with the overuse of UE3 and Havok; it means loads of games look very similar.
I've always been amazed at how rarely dramatic styles such as this are employed in videogames. When you consider the limitless potential, its remarkable that so few games have such unique visuals.
Not sure about it myself. the problem with cell shaded games is that you tend to, in my opinion, lose a slight feeling of danger. my case, Zelda the wind waker. It is the worst of the 3d zeldas by a mile and 1 of the things i dislike about it is that it's too bright, no sense of danger. I hope that with PoP they dont shoot themselves in the foot. like the idea of greater vertical challenges etc and the new combat system will hopfully be a refreshing change. maybe make it half-way decent this time round two thrones was a bit clunky and didn't allways do what i asked it to do!
