City Disc has now amended its listing to give an October 30, 2008 release, and translated accompanying text now apparently reads: "The release date for GTA 4 for PC has not yet been confirmed by the Publisher, Take 2. The release date is not guaranteed and is open to change."
(Thanks to Evo Gamer for the tip off and the translation).
As we pointed out before, it took GTA III and its sequels around six to eight months to make the leap to the mouse and keyboard crowd, so a late 2008 release for GTA IV on PC would be in keeping with tradition. But it doesn't officially exist. Yet.
Exclusivity is horse s**t. Every platform that can run a game should get the game at the same time. Putting the game out on some systems and not for others is just deliberately trying to p**s off their customers, like releasing films in the States six months before they do over here.

Exclusivity is a double edged sword.
If both platforms had the same games, it wouldn't matter which console you bought and niether would have any incentives for you to purchase one over the other. Exclusives for the Xbox and PS3 are great for their respective consoles.
Now, Nintendo on the other hand, monopolizes their franchises on their own system. This is truely horse-s**t. You buy a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games since those are the only quality titles on the thing. And Nintendo owns the most iconic franchises in gaming history thus people continue to shell out buy a console for the sole purpose of these games.
Here's hoping Nintendo follows Segas path next generation. Which they won't due to the console sales and the sales of their own games.
Anyways, with the Xbox version already finished it will take hardly any time or effort to port the xbox version to the PC.
I would like to think that a certain amount of effort would go into it! Not just a quick port - they should follow the Bioware example and optimise it for mouse and keyboard play.

Better, higher res textures and all. If it is 'more of the same' but just prettier (bout time they had a decent engine) then I am in no rush.
While they are good, I have never have really understood the mass hype surrounding each sucessive game. They aren't that groundbreaking or outstanding. maybe to the younger generation console owners possibly, but not to the veteran game players through the years....
Just get a move on but don't rush it I don't just want a shoddy port but i want it now
Been a fan of GTA from the beginning but i gave this console gen a miss and, despite wanting this game more than any other at the moment, i'm not gonna buy a console just to play it. Guess I'll have to wait for the PC version.
C'mon R*, i won't download a pirate version, honest!
I think this version of the GTA series has the potential to generate a lot of sales on the PC mainly because they have a solid multiplayer component which cannot be pirated (ie. you need to buy the game to get a cdkey for online play)... unless you play on cracked servers but they are typically in the minority relative to legit servers and moreover you can only play with fellow cracked users (not the larger legit user base that goes online).
I'm just wondering if my PC (X1950XT and E6400) will play it well on medium to high? Crysis on medium looks a lot better than GTA IV on my friend's HDTV, so maybe it won't be all that demanding? Here's hoping.

It should. GTA4 doesn't seem to be very demanding graphically.
I'm going for 100% YES on the 'will we see gta4 on pc?' question.
Why wouldn't they port it, going on the success of previous ports?
I'm still at a loss as to why we don't get these games the same time as the consoles if they're going to be released anyway. Year after year I see it and I'm still none the bloody wiser.
As I said in another thread... I put it at about 30% that we will see a PC version of GTA 4.
I didnt read that other thread could you please explain why? Every other GTA game has come to PC. System power does not enter in to it - the game is built on PCs, it will run on PCs They have more RAM, better graphics chips and many modern CPUs are as good / better than the 360's on and we have no clue about real Cell performance as no developer has properly been able to use it to its true potential yet
SO why, given the above points, is there only "a 30% chance" of a PC GTA IV?

its nothing like releasing films as the game that runs on a 360 or ps3 wont run on a pc without code changes. stop being stupid it takes time, money and effort to do these things, if they did do it they wouldnt have a business case due to rising costs of employing more people etc. rockstar do make other games as well you know!!!

Cheers to that.
And they still don’t want to officially announce the pc version because if many people knew for sure that it’s coming out, a good number will hold out and wait for it, which I guess it's not good news for the console's exclusives
I played San Andreas on PC, sure the draw distance was impressive but the controls are awful. Think I'll stick with my PS3 version this time.
thats why you use a controller for the driving . Im going through SA again modded on the PC and its great fun. Playing with keyboard and mouse and 360 wireless controller

You gotta have a controller for GTA, i really hate playing GTA on a keyboard and mouse, it just doesnt work like playing with a control pad.

I get frustrated when people make this claim. I assume multiplayer in the PC version will not be compatible with the other versions, and that's unfortunate as I'd love to see PC players wipe the floor with console players both on foot and while driving. Watching those jerky, clumsy camera movements on youtube videos makes me nausious...
i'm so pi*s*d this aint out on the PC what a f**king joke! didn't this game start on the PC? when they finaly get round to the PC game, it best be configured to use my xbox controler.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/6939/libertybay2008ja7.jpg And people say PCs have a big problem with piracy. I guess it's not a problem for the consoles, GTA4 was released a few days earlier on torrent sites too, but that doesn't matter, I guess...
Anyway, I'm sure GTA4 will be out this year and I'd bet it's gonna look (much) better than the X360/PS3 version and maybe it will have the extra content released till that time too.
