Final Fantasy XI '2008 edition' this month

Online Final Fantasy plus all four expansions together as one
Square Enix has dated Final Fantasy XI '2008 Edition' a compilation box which will be out on PC and Xbox 360 on May 23.

The 2008 box contains the online Final Fantasy - which actual people are still playing - and all four expansion packs; Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urghan and the latest, Wings of the Goddess.

Last year the 2007 edition hit the shelves, with the stand alone game and three expansions.

Square Enix boss John Yamamoto hopes the pack will draw more players to the MMO: "The world of FINAL FANTASY XI continues to grow with both new content and new players," he said.

"FINAL FANTASY XI 2008 Edition allows interested players to join the adventure with the bonus of all the expansion pack content. I hope many more players enjoy and experience the exciting world of Vana'diel and all that FINAL FANTASY XI has to offer."

I remember rather enjoying this a few years back. Had it not been for the utterly rediculous exp loss on death I may well have stuck with it.

Had it not been for the utterly rediculous exp loss on death I may well have stuck with it.

Exactly why I stopped, nothing worse than hitting lvl 40 then levelling down straight after when a 'decent challenge' mob kills you. Other than that, it was great fun.

I played Final Fantasy 11 from the day of release and became heavily addicted for a couple of years, it’s a great game, perhaps the best online game I have ever played but like any game it has its flaws. This game has large flaws, Square Enix customer support for one, is absolutely appalling, my account was hacked and they didn't absolutely nothing to restore my details so I stopped playing the game, if they had resolved this I probably would still be playing. Another reason not to pick this game up is the end game (high level which takes over 100 days playtime to get to) is still very much alive, but when it comes to low levelling, there are very few new players and it takes hours upon hours to get groups to level with (final fantasy xi relies on group based levelling and you cannot level up solo) after waiting an hour for 5 others to go level with, often parties break up, or they get killed, hence the 100 days (2400 hours) or more to attain the top level.
The expansions as well are incredibly hard to get into, when I was playing two expansions were out (Rise of Zilart and Chains of Promathia) CoP is an absolutely massive expanse of play which will take you well over 50 days play time to see, My character at the end of it had around 220 days play time and I didn't even get to see the majority of the expansion simply because it was just too hard to find a group to do it with, and even then, depending on what class you choose, only certain classes are suitable for some missions, people actually go back and spend a further 100 days play time levelling the right class just to beat it, its ridiculous. Time aside, the cut scenes and sense of achievement doesn't compare to any other game, you will literally jump out of your chair with joy (if you haven't put on 10 stone from sitting down and levelling for days and days) at completion of any part of the expansions.
If you have the time and patience to devote to this, I'd recommend it, but if not, look somewhere else, this game's time has passed and coupled with terrible customer service, I don’t think it is any longer a good choice.

Shame it's totally boring crap and not in the slightest bit worth the enormous hassle of installing on the 360.

Ahhhh those pictures bring back memories, but no, I got all I wanted out of XI the last time I was hooked on it, the flaws I have issues with won't change so I'll leave my friends to tell me of their experiences on it.

Would any of you guys recommend this game?

I've played a great many MMORPGs (even Horizons), and I'd say FFXI is the worst of them. Awful game in every sense.
