Boll on GTA movie: "I'm right guy to do it "

More hot air from the German-born director Uwe Boll inside
Movie director Uwe Boll reckons he could be the best person for the job of directing a movie based on Grand Theft Auto IV.

"Grand Theft Auto would be super interesting for me, and I think I would actually be the right guy to do it," he said, adding, "because my movies are all bloody and violent and I don't have a problem with action scenes.

"But look, they will go, in the end, with a Michael Bay or a Brett Ratner, and it will be a PG-13 movie made for $150 million. I think it would be better to make a $30 million, very hard, brutal movie without compromising, but I'm not optimistic."

How is the stop Uwe Boll Poll coming along?
Waste_Manager on 13 May '08
absolutely fantastic, i think he should do it
lmimmfn on 13 May '08
obviously still not at a million sigs,

COME ON PEOPLE SIGN IT!!!
fraser1986 on 13 May '08
I think GTA would make a rubbish film. For me, Bioshock is the only one that could really work well and be popular amongst people who hadn't played the game.
Zonf on 13 May '08
I don't know about Uwe Boll. More like Uwe tw@.
Mark240473 on 13 May '08
You have got to love the audacity of Uwe Boll. His movies tank, the majority of the gaming community seem to openly despise his work, yet he still thinks he should get his hands on the biggest franchise in videogames. C'mon you have to love that.....the guy is clearly insane....In fairness though it would be "super interesting" for him....I bet it fuc*in would! Forget it Boll, it ain't going to happen. For that matter, I don't think GTA ever will...or more importantly, ever should be made into a movie.
Liam 05 on 13 May '08
I would sign it 1 million times myself if i could!
wudragon on 13 May '08
I think if it's gonna be done then let it be a Uwe Boll film. That way nobody will see it and it'll end all the talk of making it into a film. If anybody else got the job it'd still be poo...
badgerpog on 13 May '08
The only way GTA would be plausable as a movie if it was made in a British style like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrals etc...
A typical Hollywood style film with some idiot like Eminem would be a disaster that only chavs would flock to watch...
vulcanraven01 on 13 May '08
Will this guy ever be interested in making a movie based on something that isn't a videogame?

Seems like he only lives to ride/step on other peoples work.
Thalanos on 13 May '08
God, another GTA news. I can still see a word GTA with my eyes closed!

If it's just chavs then it'll make a killing over here.

I think it's inevitable that a film of some kind will appear in the next 2 - 3 years. There's far, far too much interest in the product (as these forums demonstrate), and cash aplenty to be made. It'll more than likely be worthless dreck but it will make enough to justify a sequel or 2 ala Res Evil.

i think mass effect would make for a great movie also.. Wink
headspin on 13 May '08
this is obviously Boll starting his new career as a comedian surely?
dandare69 on 13 May '08

He did make an original youtube film called 'Watch experienced ex-pro German boxer knock fat critics round the ring'.

Also available on i-tunes.
philgreaaaaaaaat on 13 May '08
What's the point of a GTA film? They either lose the humour, or it ends up being just a parody of a gangster movie. It's like when thay make a movie of a comic book, and then adapt it back into a comic book. The end result is just a crap version of the original. Rolling Eyes
ted1138 on 13 May '08
thank f**k he's not optimistic. i'd rather see a fat chick throw up outside burger king than a Uwe Boll film. here's a great pitch for a film "Lets hunt and kill Uwe Boll". Micheal Bay could do all the action scenes and we could bring in M Night Shaylallaalaman or whatever his name is to bring a shocking twist at the end where it turns out Uwe Boll, after being killed, has made the greatest movie ever which will solve world hunger and heal the world ala Bill and Teds Wild Stallions music. we can all but dream. Sad
ensabahnur on 13 May '08
Personally I would like to see what he could come up with. It could be fun.

Personally though, I can't actually see a movie of it ever being made.
minignaz on 13 May '08
Right, because blood and violence is all what GTA has to deliver. Did this guy even play the games?

If he's so desperate to keep on shoveling out the game based movies, why doesn't someone sell him the rights to some old games on the cheap ?

Bomb Jack, Frogger, Paperboy, Daley Thompsons Decathlon.......

It'd keep him quiet for a few years. Then he could start on the Atari 2600 back catalogue.

i'm actually surprised he hasn't pitched a Pitfall movie yet. maybe after that he could move onto commodore vic20 games.

* falls to knees * “NOOOOOO”
Runcieman tm on 13 May '08
The only good point this idiot makes is that a GTA movie should be relatively low budget which would hopefully stop any inevitable adaptation being ridiculously over the top. Uwe Boll is still a gimp though, never seen any of movies never will.
courtree on 13 May '08
would i be considered a bad person if i were to laugh after reading of uwe bolls death?

please god not more game movies, sure some of them could work, silent hill wasnt too bad, nor was the first resi evil (from a "i dont know jack about resi" perspective) but they just should not be done.
Shadow_Fury on 13 May '08
Crap director for a crap game, works out fine.

*casts line*
BenJy! on 13 May '08
What is he thinking? This is suicide, loads of people will be signing the petition now.
fleeties on 13 May '08

I couldnt agree more, Bioshock would be the best out of all games so far. Doing a GTA movie would be a mistake, it would detract from how awesome the game is and how it holds it own as a piece of entertainment media that actually isnt out of hollywood. It would suck grandious balls if the movie was a turkey...
briangriffin on 13 May '08
How the hell does anyone go about making a film of GTA a game where everytime it involves a new lead character and a new location. The only on going theme is that of freedom to do what you like when you like. Now tell me how you get that in a film? Also you could take seperate missions from each GTA that are rip offs of films in the first place like the heat style bank job in the new one or the fact that pretty much the whole of Vice City was Scaface.

How do you make a film of a game that is a homage to all the great gangster films and action flicks that went before it.

Stupid idea. Now everyone sign that petition so we dont have to listen to the man with the worst ideas in the movie bis anymore.
Limerick on 13 May '08
I wouldn't worry. Look at the films he has made so far.

From IMDB.com...

House of the Dead
Alone in the Dark
Bloodrayne
In the name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
Postal
Bloodrayne 2
FarCry
Bloodrayne 3 (He's getting plenty of mileage from that one)
Zombie Massacre

Now apart from Farcry, there isn't much to shout about in that list. Most games are games no one cares about or have a very niche fanbase. The chances of him getting something like Metal Gear solid or GTA as a film franchise are very very remote. Another none story to keep Herr Boll in the limelight methinks.
Crow555 on 13 May '08
The movie has to have a plot too, Mr Boll. It's not all action sequences.
Garfunkle20 on 13 May '08
I'd prefer if Stevie Wonder did it instead.
the688 on 13 May '08
What a brain dead idea. Would need a a gift from god to make this a do-able movie and the online petitions are signed by 90% 13-16 year old that won't make it into the 18 rated movie so ideally the film will fail big time before its even made. But hey I have idea for lead roll Steven segal as he makes a load of stinker movies now anyway. guy walks down street pulls a guy from car drives off crashes gets out kicks the s**t out of someone steals their car. And why? coz some terrorist holds his daughter on other side of the city and has 1 hour to get there before she died. *yawn* what a brainless movie.
gogo65uk on 13 May '08
IF you think about it, perhaps Uwe Boll is referring to his experience of the original GTA game...

No plot... poor storyline... weird camera angles... unintelligable dialogue... repetitive action scenes...

Captain Boll your ship (tanker perhaps) has come in!

Get a job little man! Evil or Very Mad
subform on 13 May '08
What's the point in a GTA movie, the game is full of references/homages to various movies anyway??? QuestionQuestion
bosshog70 on 14 May '08
"Super optimistic" - I really didn't think anyone said things like this, with the exception of Big Gay All in South Park.
Andy247 on 14 May '08
I have just watched bloodrayne. DO NOT LET THIS MAN MAKE ANYMORE FILMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cyberstevo on 15 May '08
Y'know, we could cheat on the petition to stop him, by putting in fake names and any email addresses. I never seen any of his films but he sounds like a right PRI*K!
