Team Ninja's Tomonobu Itagaki has declared Ninja Gaiden II the last game in the fantastic series.
The series has reached its peak with the 360-exclusive sequel, reasoned Itagaki, who says he looks to move onto something "completely new".
"Personally I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series so I'm not planning on making any other games in the series," said Itagaki, adding: "So I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise.
He went on: "I think we were able to achieve everything we wanted with this game so anything else would be extraneous," according to Kotaku (featuring a photo of Itagaki with a bloke that looks strangely like a less-green Incredible Hulk).
Itagaki brushed off the possibility of a "swan song" NG game for PS3 as "ridiculous", presumably while donning his iconic giant shades.
So what's next? Itagaki says he wishes to move on to something "completely unrelated to anything I've done before. Not any part of any existing franchises," expressing an interest in working with a US developer on "a game based on the Pacific Theater," or a game set in space.
Well that would be a bit of an error in judgement if this is the case. The new Edge gives it a bit of a slating, for numerous reasons - particularly for the game-crippling camera. I think it got a low 6.
Unless this is one of those "well we're going to make a sequel to the sequel but only because number 2 was so crap!"
But they'll only admit that number 2 is crap when they start saying how good the new one will be.

NO! Thats why I could never get into NGB. I could tell it was great but the camera just p**sed me off immensely. I thought they would have sorted that.

'fraid so, apparently an example of the rest of the game is the first fight, where the reviewer couldn't actually see himself as he was obscured by everything an anything. So he could see who he was fighting, but not his own character.
and I never got into Ninja Gaiden because I had an Xbox, but a 50hz tv, so the only way i could play it was in black and white with constant fuzz over the screen.

Edge are one of the worst magazines on the go. They used to be highly respected but since loosing lot's of readers, they tend to rate the AAA games lowly in order to create a fuss and put their mag in the limelight. NG1 also had an iffy camera but due to the game excelling in every other area and being the best in the genre, you can easily look past that. Personally I think it's sad that this will be the last NG game but at the same time it's probably gone as far as it can go. The original aim was to create the best 3D action game on the market and they achieved that with the original. From what I've seen NG2 is more of the same but with improvements here and there, which is no bad thing but I'd rather the series be remembered as the best in the genre rather than something that was same old every sequel...
I love how people whine about the camera in NG. Personally I don't think they could have made it any better to suit the quick action. I finished that game (and Black) many times on most difficulty levels, so it's clearly not a problem with the camera.

It is only a preview in Edge magazine and the prats even put ninja gaiden sigma screen grabs on the page. Edge are really going down hill lately (via up there own bottom!)

Hear hear!!... f**kin mag bunch of ball sucking whores.. sorry.
It's worth mentioning that EDGE's only real gripe was the camera, other than that they suggested it more than held it's own against games of similar genre... & certainly there was no mention of a "low 6".
Anyway i'll be buying it, this game will rock, i will die lots!

*giggles*
f**k Edge Magazine! Ergh, that mag sucks. "Game-crippling" - if those are Edge's actual words, then blimey... how silly. For me personally, the camera in NGB never bothered me. Once you get anywhere near capable at the game, the camera shouldn't bother you. There are far worse camera systems in games out there.
But anyway, Ninja Gaiden II will definitely not have the same initial impact as the first game on the original Xbox. But it'll most certainly be one of the best action games this year by a mile. I don't know if it'll be Itagaki-san's last game in the franchise. It wouldn't surprise me if it was.
I'm fully expecting NG II to get 9's across the board. With maybe the odd 8.5, and even 9.5.
Am I the only person who thinnks ending a series at its peak is a good thing? We all criticise developers who continue to churn out sequels well past a franchises' best, so whilst its sad for fans, it could be a blessing for the developers' integrity.
I wish more developers were bold enough to know when a good thing should come to an end. Maybe then we'd spend less time playing updates of familiar favourites, and more time playing in new worlds with new heroes in new dynamic ways.

Thats a damm shame. First Mgs, now this. Some great franchises seem to be coming to an end shortly. Still, sometimes it's better to leave a great product alone, rather than release sequel after sequel, diluting the formular for the sake of keeping it going(see - E.A)until you end up with something so rubbish no-one wants to play it.
Oh yeah, and as for the camera, I've had Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Black and currently own Ninja Gaiden Sigma and have never, ever, had issues with the camera. Edge need to hire some actual gamers to test their games coz they are clearly using nursery kids at the mo.
I know its a good thing that they aren't going to milk a brillaint franchise, but I can't help but feel a little sad . I loved the Ninja gaiden games, including the first one (on the master system I think). I can't help but imagine how well (or bad) the series would work on the Wii. Ah well, looks like we will never find out. Perhaps Sega needs to revive the Shinobi franchise(I didn't like the PS2 version), and make a new game for that series. And yes i do know that Sega did not make the Ninja Gaiden franchise

hows about sticking a Shinobi pack on xbla or psn. the original game is still a cracking game and the arcade version of shadow dancer was amazing. that would well be worth 800pts. it would also be better than half the s**te that appears on there
