The first set of screens are in for the XBLA remake of the first Soul Calibur game. That's the Dreamcast one and not Soul Blade of the PSone era.
We reported a few weeks back that Namco had confirmed the title for Xbox Live Arcade, saying, "Leaderboards yes. Online multiplayer no. This might have something to do with the fact that Soul Calibur IV will be out soon after and no one wants to shoot themselves in the foot do they?" Probably not.
Nice one! Loved this game I bought my dreamcast just for it. lucky xbox owners won't be buying a 360 just for this im afraid would definatly get it if a ps3 version is made.
I don't whether its anything to do with the visuals being changed, upscaled to Hd or my own eyes, but the original dreamcast version was way less blocky and had better graphics.

Until recently I would have agreed with you - but a couple of weeks ago I had a nostaliga-attack and dug my Dreamcast and SC out of the loft.
It was back in the box and back up in the loft within about 5 minutes. On an HD TV is looked absolutely dreadful and I didn't want my memories tarnished any further
I agree that the screenshots are looking a bit Lego though, which surprises me. The animation was one of the best things about the original though so I'd like to see it in action really.

I agree this dont look as good as the old DC version, Or does it
XBLA games have a limit on how much space they can use (150mb I think). So Namco may have to squeeze the game into that space which could explain why graphics appear simpler. I think exceptions are sometimes made but not sure if that's the case with this.
Well I've looked at the original DC version and despite remembering it looking loads more detailed than that, it is in fact the same. Sadly, I think its the old rose tinted glasses playing tricks on our Hi-Def minds.
It just shows how spoilt rotten we are with the quality of modern graphics that what seemed almost impossible to better ten years ago, now looks a bit blocky. Still, its nice to see the overall standard of XBLA games improving. I for one would much rather be playing Soul Calibur than Dig Dug!

Anything connected to a HDTV that doesnt connect via HD inputs looks worse than on SDTV's.
Get the VGA box for the Dreamcast then connect that to your HDTV, it will look MUCH better.
This looks more odd to me than better - something just doesn't look quite right - it's got that kind of strong emphasis on edges that a lot of ported to PC games have.
