Here we go again; despite images of Snake shooting himself in the face, and Kojima publicly hanging up his bandana more than once, MGS4 is not the last Metal Gear, Konami insists.
I think theres been some misconceptions that this is the last Metal Gear, associate producer Ryan Payton told MTV. This is really just the last chapter of the saga of the Solid Snake story.
I think he is kind of nervous about it, Payton continued. You cant continue from this step. You cant start next chapter. We really do close up the story.
But do we really want another Metal Gear without Kojima C and more specifically, without Snake?
[Solid Snake] was a burden [for Kojima] because of all those loose ends, Payton said. So when you play Metal Gear Solid 4ĺ and when you get to the end, I think youre going to feel that wow, this is a nice closure. All of the weird stuff thats gone on in the past, its all coming to an end. All those weird questions everything is answered.
I dont think an MGS game not made by Kojima will sell well. They could of course do a halo wars type thing and just ahve a different game in the same universe. Konami would spoil a franchise by dragging it out too much.
I may be disapointed that Kojima won't be working on any more Metal Gear Solids but im truely happy that there will be more. The gameplay is awesome (with a truely indepth story) and will play well in any future game even without a a great story.
Wow. In further news, there will be more Halo's; Gears of War's; God of War's; Maddens; Final Fantasys etc etc.
Popular games franchises nowadays are cash cows, wouldnt matter if every orgninal programmer and developer left a franchise, you can bet your bottom dollar that more would get made.
Perhaps with MGS Online they'll go further down the online route which would lessen the lack of Solid Snake - the problem is, as everybody knows, is that he's such a key factor in these games, and new characters don't go down well. Unless there can be a new character who looks just like him again?

When Big Boss became playable in MGS3 and Portable Ops, i took to him well. I seriously doubt an online story would work... a character known to all (Raiden?) could easily take lead of a new game or another well known character. The fact that Solid hasn't even been playable in all theses games, (Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid, MGS4) Theres still, portable ops, MGS2 and MGS3 where he isan't even the focus. He isan't neccesary.
We've seen the 1st reviews of the ps3 exclusive "Haze" come in, and it's getting slated http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/875/875229p2.html
So it's all down to metal gear(should be highly rated)and Gran turismo then to save the ps3 this year. Little big planet looks bonkers, but i'm not sure how much fun it'll be(very quirky).
Didn't LordVonPs3(the eternal fanboy)have haze down in his list as one of the ps3's top exclusives this year? He must feel like a right plum.

MGS4 and LBP are the reasons why I am all for PS3 this year. One game in a classic series and another game showing innovation, creativity, and most of all, fun.
Surprised to see such a poor review for HAZE (worse than Ironman on ign FFS!!) due to FR being such a good developer. Ah well, sometimes it is good to fail before you can win.

Haze? Meh.
For a lot of people though MGS just got a whole lot more important (myself included), LBP holds no interest for me whatsoever, I do kind of get it but its just not my bag.
I will be awaiting the (impartial) reviews of MGS4 with baited breath.

But worse than Ironman? Come on!? Should rename the game from Haze to Harsh!

Havent played Iron Man either, again, not really my bag.
To try and make an impact in the FPS genre you either have to have done something radical (excuse the pun) or make it a much better experience than the rest that are already out there, unfortunatley i dont think Haze did anything different or spectacular.
You are right on the score though, I dont think Free Radical will be to happy.

Yeah TitVonPS3 and quite a few others who were comparing this game to the "second coming!"
Away from Haze now (and people said labelling Killzone as the Halo beater was a let down are now in for a surprise ) Metal Gear has a lot of stories to tell, and it'll just be a new person to play as with a new story. Who knows, people may like it.
Though Kojima has really been in charge in the past, i think it somewhat unfair to make a MGS game without him.
ooo hot topic! first of all it isnt surprising - i am sure kojima did say in one interview something along the lines of if fans wanted more then he would have to answer the call.
2nd point - it being made without him - he also also implied he would consider working in a role similar to nintendo legend miyamoto ie as a director overseeing projects. as for him not working on it at all - well look at resident evil 4! a huge jump forward for the franchise-but none of the developers of the original RE were onboard (one guy from RE2 i think).
finally! there is still plenty of scope for mgs - i mean look at the end of mgs3 - big boss is dis illusioned - but we have no idea what he exactly did to turn into the series badguy - yes he turns out to be the culprit at the end of the msx metal gear game, but no explanantion as to why!.....so, remakes of the original games that were on psx would sell huge....and possibly, well seeing as the gamecube got a re-make of the ps1 metal gear solid.....mmm.....wouldnt say no that i guess
A metal gear without kojima or snake isnt metal gear, this is the end, maybe mgs5 will be good but surely it wont have the polish of previous titles, it wouldnt be that hard to ruin the mgs formula
Well it was bound to happen. MGS is a cash cow so of course they are going to keep the franchaise alive. However, a game without Solid Snake and no Kojima behind the helm just wouldn't be the same. I wouldn't mind a few more prequel's of remakes of the original Metal Gear games, but please god no Raiden. Hopefully Konami have learnt there lesson from the response they got with MGS2's antic's...
In last month's EDGE Kojima said he would still act as a general producer on some future MG, but he would have little say in the designing/development process. You can understand him, the man has been working on the same games for two decades now, who wouldn't want to move on?
