Battlefield: Heroes beta sign-up launches

Chance to get on the free-to-play shooter
Battlefield: Heroes developer DICE has started the sign-up process for its upcoming Team Fortress inspired shooter, Battlefield: Heroes.

To register, simply pop over to the sign-up page and put some personal information and some beta testing background in a form.

Word of advice though, you'll need a good reason why you're a great beta tester, as there's a question asking exactly why you want to play this game. We gave the reason "Because we want to play it now!" That's good enough, right?

Battlefield: Heroes is a free-to-play, ad-driven shooter that can be played on almost anything released this side of the millennium. At first glance it looks like a Team Fortress influenced cash-in, but we're sold on it after watching this trailer last month. You should be too.

Currently there's just over 14000 people registered, so if they do invites in-order you're in with a good shot if you get in there quickly.

I'm interested to see how the micro transactions are going to work out when there's such a risk of imbalance.

haha,already..........

as for getting in quickly registering today straight away, well this news for the beta signup was posted on the web last Friday/Saturday

That's great, but I was in the US until a couple of days ago, so I've not exactly been keeping up to date Smile

ahh im just saying there will be a glut of people in line beforehand, unless theyre screening the reasons on why you should be in the beta, i.e. might have a better chance giving a good reason

The micro transactions are only supposed to be for cosmetic changes and not weapons as far as im aware, i think theyre also talking about having leveling up weekends where you pay a few quid to level up to keep up if you havnt been playing in ages and want to be able to play with mates etc.

The FAQ section of the site (here) mentions weapons and armour too. And since Battlefield 2 and 2142 have weapon unlocks I think it's fair to assume they'll do the same thing using cash rather than XP this time.

As long as it's balanced it's not going to be a big deal. But of course if it IS balanced then there's no draw to actually buy the content, is there? Smile

There is another MT-based game (was it Mythos?) where the devs said the items would be purely cosmetic. Not a bad idea, and definitely fair, but I don't know if you could run a business off the number of people who'll buy them!
