PreviousItagaki: No one takes its job as seriously as Rockstar New screens from The Force Unleashed  Next

33 new MGS4 screens (not all in the Middle-East!)

A bunch of new screens to whet your appetite for June's big release
33 new screenshots of Snake and Raiden doing their thing are out and they're not all in the dusty, grey Middle-Eastern environment we've seen a billion times already.

You can spot loads of cool features going on - see Snake in one shot using the SixAxis to control a small droid, or Snake dressed in the Altair (of Assassin's Creed fame) costume.

There even seems to be some sort of bike race going on in there. The shots (which turned up here) can be seen below.

Nah a friend of mine owns a small game store and lets a select few people buy their games early (had GTA4 on the thursday before release) won't say names coz he could get into a spot of bother.

OMG this looks bloody amazing!!!!

I love this series. Look it seems Vamp, the inhumanely fast assassin from MGS2 is back, look at screenshot 5.

Laughing

I want to say positive things, and yes, it does look really cool, but I'm slightly concerned that half of those look like they are from cut scenes... Here's hoping it's just a coincidence and that it's not mainly cut scenes (an accusation made of previous Metal Gear games).

I hope it's a dozy though *thumbs up*

The MGS series has always used it's in game engine for it's cut scenes, and as it's a very cinematic game, and pre release screen shots of most games give you views of perspectives you don't see in gameplay, I really don't see what you're getting at.

If you don't like the cut scenes don't buy it, don't belittle it and those who do like it.

MGS is a great series, and yes it does thing differently to most games, and yet a lot of people still really enjoy it.
You won't catch me on a thread about GOW2, making comments on how the game is "mostly shooting things etc...". If I'm not interested in something I don't take the time to hack away at it, regardless of whether I'm entitled to because I'm on a forum.

Anyway, fire ahead and take everthing I've said out of context, I've made my point, but I'm sure it'll be missed.

cant wait...so much so i've just had mgs2 & 3 roll up in the post this morning for my ps2...£8 quid from ebay, what a bargain. this should wet my appetite.
roger4000 on 21 May '08
Please dont flame me, I think this game looks amazing and the gameplay will be fantastic. But am I the only one dissapointed in some of the screens?

Especially the later ones in the CVG list, the close-up of Snake laying down with what looks like a sniper rifle.. the textures really wouldnt look out of place on the PS2.

It seems that now they've gotten past the touched-up promo shots, the real engine is showing through.

100% right, the textures look blurry and have no definition up close

Well, you have to expect me to respond, given the fact that you have levied an accusation at me, one which is completely unfounded...

You don't? I thought I was pretty clear - many of the first 15 or so screen shots look like cut scenes. They may not be, but going by past MGS games and the devs tendacy to put in a lot of cut scenes, this is entirely possible. I only hope that these are there just to progress the story, and not over used like they were in Sons of Liberty, which is generally regarded as being one long cut scene. Stop being so defensive over something when I wasn't suggesting otherwise.

If you don't like the cut scenes don't buy it, don't belittle it and those who do like it.

I won't be buying it, I don't own a PS3. However, that doesn't preclude me from making comments on a game. I would like to know exactly how I was belittling it though - as far as I'm concerned I said mainly positive things about it.

MGS is a great series, and yes it does thing differently to most games, and yet a lot of people still really enjoy it.

What the hell are you on about?

If I'm not interested in something I don't take the time to hack away at it, regardless of whether I'm entitled to because I'm on a forum.

Hack away at it? You really are Mr Sensitive. You need to switch to de-caf or something.
Or better yet, stop assuming that EVERYTHING I say is an attack on something you like. Read my post again - I did not attack it ONCE.

Marty, you are a dickhead. Plain and simple.

I never accused you of attcking anything.
I was merely questioning the logic of taking the time to belittle something you have no interest in.

As for your opinion on MGS, I don't give a f**k.
I love MGS, the story is fantastic, if you don't like it fair enough.

One of the points I made was that I wouldn't waste my time looking at screens from a game I have no interest in and making comments like; "Oh, that's not very good is it?". That'd be pointless, and make people who do like the game wonder why I'm bothering to write it.

I'm sure you'll quote every paragraph of this post and follow it with a smug comment that you are sure makes you look oh so intelligent and witty, at the same time as making me look like a bumbling idiot, so be my guest.

You are still a dickhead, not because of your opinions, but because you believe that anyone questioning you is foolish.

My suggestion to you would be that you stop having a go at games you don't like, and perhaps get out of the house once in a while, especially while the weather's good. Enjoy your life, be nice to people, don't be a dickhead for 5 minutes, and maybe you might like how it feels.

All the best.
tommycockles on 21 May '08
I suggest you take some of your own advise 'pal'.
I have an interest in all games - I love them, it's been a hobby of mine for as long as I can remember. So I will continue to look at any and all screenshots that C&VG deem to put on their website. If you have an issue with that, that's YOUR issue, not mine.

If I take the time to make a comment on a news article that C&VG put on their public access site, then I have as much right to do so as anyone else. You, as a visitor of this site, have the right to not read anything I write. My posts are easy enough to spot.

Since you seem to LOVE to respond to anything I write in a victimised way, then I reserve the right to respond to you. I'm sorry that you feel me calling 'Tommy c**kles s**t' (which I stand by) is somehow some sort of attack on you or your parentage, but you need to get over this. I'm sorry you feel that a comment regarding overzealous cutsceneage (yes, I made that word up) in a game you like is somehow an attack on you or your parentage, but again, you need to get over it.

Take some of your own advice, be nice to people, and stop commenting on things you don't like (i.e. me).

You have the right to say whatever you like about anything at all, it's up to you.
Having the right to do something doesn't equate to making the action acceptable.

I merely questioned why anyone would bother commenting on a subject they had so little interest in, especially with such a glib attitude as you had towards the subject matter.

As for me being offended by some flame war I had with you two weeks ago, I'm afraid you're wrong again. I do not feel victimised, I do however feel that you seem hell bent on having the last word on everything regardless of how daft you may appear in the process.

I could discuss the finer points of MGS2, and indeed the entire MGS series with you at length if you wish, but I'm sure you prefer to stick to the more condescending type of comment you're used to.

As for my "parentage", well I fail to see the correlation between that and some random user name I chose for a website, but hey, you run with it.

I stand by my opinion about you being a dickhead, you have proved me right again and again with your pathetic, quotation followed by sarcastic quip style of argument.
I am sure you will continue the trend well into the future, you most eminent of dickheads.
tommycockles on 22 May '08
I'm now of the opinion that you actually don't read anything that anyone actually writes, instead seeing what you want to see.

I come across as a dickhead - that's fine. You come across as stark raving bonkers.

Not constantly quoting you doesn't mean I havn't read what you have writen.

Marty, you don't come across as a dickhead, you are a dickhead.
You always have a reply, just proving that I was right when I said you have to have the last word on everything.

Well here's something for you to think about...
Perhaps you're not always right about everything.

Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to express it.
Thats a given.
You're expression of opinion borders on egotism.
I quoted you on your original post to highlight what I saw to be inaccuracies in your argument.
I was disagreeing with you, that happens alot on forums, it makes them interesting.

You replied in a way that suggested that I took your opinion as a personal insult, which was way off the mark. It was a difference of opinion, and I felt I had a right to reply. I didn't call your character into question or attempt to insult you, but you wasted no time in doing so to me with your follow up post.
That is why I called you a dickhead.
Sure, I could have quoted everything you had writen and added little wiiticisms after each paragraph. but instead I cut to the chase.

Marty you are an egotistic dickhead who display's some disturbingly Narcissistic tendancies.

I'll leave it to you to as always have the last word...
tommycockles on 22 May '08
Lets be fair, the last word 'arguement' could be levied at you too. As I've said previously, if you make a comment to me, I'm going to respond. It's nothing to do with 'wanting the last word', its because you say something I wish to reply to. No ego involved, no narcissistic tendacies - you say something to me, I respond. That's how conversations work.

The reason I levied the 'you don't read what I wrote' accusation at you is because what you are writing doesn't actually seem to respond to anything I'm actually saying. Not ONCE did I say I had no interest in Metal Gear Solid, but apparently you are of the opinion I don't. Not once did I say it looks s**t or anything similar. I said the first 15 or so screen shots look like they are taken from cut scenes. That in itself is not an insult in any way.

I followed this up with saying I HOPE it's just a coincidence and not indicitive that the game features overly laborious cut scenes - a complaint levied at previous Metal Gear games.

How you can read this and take this as an opinion (as the only opinion I shared was 'it looks cool') and then vehemently defend that opinion by REPEATEDLY calling me a dickhead is, frankly, baffling to me.

I'm a big boy, I can take it when someone doesn't like me, for whatever reason, but the FACT is, you have read between the lines with things I have or haven't said, come up with COMPLETELY the wrong conclusions, and are now in charge of completely the wrong opinion of me.

You are clearly an intelligent, eloquant chap, please, PLEASE, take a look at my first post again. Read it, read it twice, then hopefully you'll realise I was not, nor did I slag this game off. I want it to be great, I really hope it is - I have some concerns, possibly unfounded, but ultimately, I think these screens look great, and I have high hopes.

Stop jumping to wrong conclusions, because when that happens, the stuff above happens, and I'm sure nobody really wants to read it.
