Actual proper screenshots from the new Prince of Persia game that aren't scans of magazines have hit the web, revealing the new PoP game in all its cel-shaded glory.
The eight pictures suggest that the game will return to the light tones that graced the first game and jettison the awful morbid vibe of the second. Or at least Ubisoft is doing a good job of hiding such sections from official screen shot releases.
Looking at the images, we're still not one hundred percent sold on the cel-shading yet. Particularly as the character models and the backgrounds seem stylistically different. But those in the know have told us it works well in motion.
There's no title for the new Prince of Persia game, but you can expect to see it before Christmas. Look out for more direct from the publisher's Ubidays next week.
meh, dont much like the cell shading, it has a nice comic book feeling but for a series that always looked spectacular in the past, i dont think cell shading does it justice
The only thing I'm disappointed with is the lack time travel. I know they need to get away from the same old story, but I'm sure they could add the Sands of Time in there somewhere, it's a staple of the franchise now.
This is going to be s**t isnt it, why are ubisoft determined to kill the POP series.
Sorry tell me again where you saw the gameplay, read the story and watched it in motion?
You're just like all the people who say Wind Waker is a babies game and ruins the Zelda series, when it's one of the best adventure games ever created.

Actually as someone who has loved the series since the first day im upset that they would change it to such a dreadful graphical style, its horrible. They should have kept it the same as the previous games, this style just shouts out to me that ubi are taking this game down the wrong route.

I've loved it from the first day too, but I think it's obvious it was getting a bit stale. You shouldnt hate change so much.
I'm not sure what people have against cel-shading, I think it's much better than standard rendering - and the style they've come up with for this new PoP game is like nothing I've ever seen before. At least they're trying... you'd probably moan if they just did 3 new games with the same enginge. No pleasing some people
I think it looks absolutely sublime! Cant fault those graphics at all.
I can, think it looks horrid, all cartoony and dragon ball z like, not my type of thing at all. And what's with removing the time manipulation element.

Dragon Ball Z?! Looks f-all like it. I think this looks fantastic. Getting me interested in POP again since my interest had wained up until these screenshots. And I agree with the guy above - Zelda WW was fantastic. Better than the last one by miles.

Meh, I like it & dont care if you dont so there!
Agree on removing the time manipulation though. That sounds like a stupid idea.
Lastly - Zelda WW is one of the worst Zelda's ever. But its not down to graphics as I thought they were quite good - it was the sailing, fetch quests & stealth that ruined it for me.
Personally, the sailing in WW is one of my all-time favourite memories in a game! I can still hear the music today, the waves looked awesome (really wouldnt look out of place on a system today) and the creepiness when it all went dark and moody was great. Damn octopus....
Never been into PoP, but I think these screens look amazing. If they pull it off - and it still looks amazing when it's all moving - this could be contender for best looking game of the year.
I cnan (sort of) understand why the graphical style might put some people off, but ffs... we've already got a billion games that are brown and grey. Thank f**k someone is trying to deliver something a bit different!

Damn right.
Agreed it looked good.
But come on, it was so tedious & boring. I use to have to have a magazine next to me to read while the game took forever to get where I wanted to go.
Maybe you were playing it wrong? I never got bored sailing. There were always things to do - either fighting with the creatures, finding sunken treasure, getting ambushed by those little.... things on what looked like parts of capsised ships.
It's all down to how you play it, really. If you wanted to just do the story missions and only went from A to B on the map, then I can see how you'd find it boring.
And the joy of finding new islands with little mysteries on was unrivalled. Did get a bit boring later on when looking for the tri-force pieces, but other than that it was superb. Snot kid for PM!

Yeah, I found all that stuff dull, mindless busy work. Only there to artificialy expand the games lifespan.

That snotty kid is hilarious Did you play Zack & Wiki on the Wii? Theres a character on a pirate ship that looks just look him. Exactly the same animation too, with the snot and everything. Really bizarre! Great game though.

But if you liked it, fair enough.
Nothing can artificially expand a game's lifespan. If what you're doing is making the game longer, then it's not artificial, is it?
Ah, the cel shading versus gouraud shading debates kicks off yet again.
Developers can't win with some of you can they? They're either condemned for repeating themselves or condemned for trying new things. We can't have it both ways!
It seems people either love it or hate it. Personally, in the right context, I think cel shading looks fantastic. When you consider the potential for creative freedom that videogames possess, its sad that the only games that get global praise by the critics and gamers alike, are those that look the most realistic.
Getting a free-roaming game to look like a pre-animated cartoon is a goal I consider all too often neglected, so I applaud Ubisoft for taking the "hand-painted" approach and having the courage to re-invent such a well respected franchise.

Looks great. Never really got into the PoP series, played the demo of the first two games and thought they were ok. Will be keeping my eye on this one though, love the style.
I quite like the graphical style they are choosing for the next POP, but until I see some gameplay and get a feel for how it all plays out then I can't really comment on the actual game. Still, it is looking damn good at the moment!
If you ask me it looks gorgeous. And that's coming from a guy who doesn't use words like gorgeous- ever.
It seems to have that mystical styling about it the original had (well- not original, I mean the Sands of Time)- Ubisoft when nuts with the 2nd and 3rd games- all dark and brooding- almost completely lost it's way. Infact the 3rd game with that gimmicky dark prince idea was a bit rubbish.
So my fingers are crossed that this has all the charm SoT had- and the gameplay to match.
