Resident Evil 5 coming this year?

Capcom plans sequel for FY 2008
Capcom has unveiled that it plans to bring Resident Evil 5 out simultaneously for Xbox 360 and PS3 before the end of its financial year '08, which ends April.

The news comes straight out of the company's latest financial report and also lists Bionic Commando and MotoGP 08 as planned releases before the end of FY 08.

It's worth noting that the financial year ends next April. Looking back over past release dates, Resident Evil 4 came out in January and March in Japan and Europe respectively, so there is a chance is won't make the shelf before Christmas.

Even so, we can only hope. Xbox World 360 wrote in its latest preview of the game, "Throw in advanced physics that heighten the game's key themes of heat and cold (atmospherics now possible thanks to high def visuals), plus a storyline that looks to pick up after the events of Code Veronica and you have about the most eagerly-anticipated game this side of Halo 3."

We couldn't agree more.

I'm not a religious man, but...

*gets down on his hands & knees, and prays to the almighty gaming gods*

I hope this comes out this year - it's my most anticipated game... ever!

I have a feeling though, that it'll be out within the first few months of 2009. Boo!
ginsin on 22 May '08
Would be too good to be true if it came out this year.

A game getting released before people are expecting it, in current circumstances that would be a incredible.

Even still, take your time on this one guys, it really could be spectacular.
StonecoldMC on 22 May '08
Yeah - please don't rush it....

Also, please get MOTOGP back on track (no pun intended) - I've really enjoyed the series so far, but '07 just lacked that certain something....we really, really need a game that captures the excitement of Moto GP over these past couple of years

If it did make it out here before 2008 ends then I will finally be happy with the Xbox 360's lineup for this year, as it's really underwhelming at the moment.
deadmartyr on 22 May '08
confusing, shouldn't it say 2009?

Fable 2?
Fallout 3?
Viva Pinata 2? (Yes, I'm a fan)
Banjo 3?
Gears 2?
Aliens: Colonial Marines?
Ghostbusters?
Star Wars: Force Unleashed?
Too Human?

So, what you're getting at is there's no Halo 4.

I don't think it's as strong as last years offerings but it's easily better than PS3 and Wii's offerings...

Back on topic, I seriously doubt this will be released this year. Capcom won't want to go head to head with Gears 2 so more than likley we'll see a March/April 2009 release date which is fine with me.
vulcanraven01 on 22 May '08
Easily better? That's a matter of opinion. I get the feeling Too Human is going to be a right turkey. There's some great titles coming out on all consoles and to be honest it's hard to say which is best. M$fans will claim its the the 360 and Sonyfans will claim the PS3. In fact the majority of games are on both formats with some potential classics from exclusive titles.

What does worry me is the amount of unoriginal titles on all consoles... GOW2, MGS4, Fable 2, RFOM 2. There's actually very little new on all consoles.
voodoo341 on 22 May '08
Depends when Capcom's financial 08 starts and ends. some people dont end until spring 2009.

Looking forward to E3 when they announce the Wii version.
distant2nd on 22 May '08
Big game release dates need a least 1-2 months between them, otherwise there will always be lost sales.

It would be like Indy 4 coming out 2 days after Iron man at the cinema.

Yes I am a broken record but I'd rather that resi 5 comes out spring 2009. Otherwise it's going clash with resistance 2, kZ2, LBplanet etc..

I certainly not made of money...

I should have been a bit more clear and refered to titles at the end of the year, and titles I'd certainly get on the 360 over the PC - I'm not really bothered about Fable 2, nor Pinata, Banjo 3 I think will be only a good game at most, Aliens isn't out till next year, Too Human gives me no interest and Ghostbusters could be good but who knows yet.

Gears 2 and Force Unleashed I do really want, but I just don't like seeing too many sequels and that's what I'm seeing in this list. And why on Earth would I want a Halo 4?

360 has a great lineup this year but wouldnt go that far saying its easily better than the ps3's 08 lineup since alot of the games on the list are multiformat.

and ps3 has these exclusives:

ferrari challenge
metal gear 4
Little big planet
wipeout hd
Siren
socom navy seals
tekken 6
resistance 2
motorstorm 2
Valkyria Chronicles

its good to have the best of both worlds

It's probably also worth noting that capcom probably wouldn't of stated they'd release it by the end of the fiscal year if they were intended on releasing it before xmas. Surely they'd of said before the end of 2008 instead.

odd, this aint really a news story.

The question mark at the end of "Resident Evil 5 coming this year?" should have given people an idea that C&VG weren't saying that it was actually confirming it was going to be released this year Rolling Eyes

Aye, but they're talking about the financial year which ends in April. So the '?' may mean it could be out waaaaaaaaaay after April. b******s, eh?

Jeez, you are as clueless as you are deluded...

I'd love this game for Christmas, but I guess I could wait a few extra months for some spit and polish.

As an aside, I've always found the fiscal/financial year thing to be b******s. What the hell is the point of running a year April-March, it's just confusing.

As an aside, I've always found the fiscal/financial year thing to be b******s. What the hell is the point of running a year April-March, it's just confusing.

I googled and found this.

The reason why goes back to the year 1751. Back then, the year itself ran from Lady Day, 25 March to the 24 March. In 1751 England had also become adrift with other countries in Europe with its calendar keeping. It was out of sync by eleven days, which made international trade difficult.

It was clear that England had to adopt a new system and it moved from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in 1751/2. The eleven days were taken out of September 1751 and the year ended on December 31st. 1752 began on January 1st.

Not everyone was happy with this decision and banks, one of the most traditional and conservative of all establishments, refused to fall in line. Not only did they not recognise that the year now began on January 1, they also refused to accept that the eleven days in September had been eliminated from their calendar. So, they regarded their year as starting March which everyone else regarded as being 11 days further on – in April And so it has been ever since.

Capcom are using black people as slaughter victims for public entertainment. I call that racist.

Populating what looks like an African shanty town with primarily white people would probably be considered a bit more racist.

Correction:
Capcom have used racial minorities as 'slaughter victims' for public entertainment. I mean, if your arguement were to hold any water as it were, then you would almost had to of referenced Resident Evil 4. I mean, the themes are all the same as far as your narrowminded defamation of this games goes. 'You call that racist'? I sir, call you a fussy bigot.

Do you honestly believe this, or are you jumping on the 'Resi 5 is rascist' bandwagon? Was CoD4 rascist for having you kill countless Middle Eastern soldiers?

Resi 5 is set in Africa. Africa has a large black population, especially in some of the poorer areas. Resi 5 is set in these poorer areas (judging by what we've seen so far), and these sorry individuals have been infected - whether through the T-virus or Las Plagas, we don't yet know. Either way, it stands to reason that, whilst playing, you will end up shooting black infected folk. This is no more rascist than Resi 1 or Dead Rising being set in America, or Resi 4 'somewhere in Europe'.
