THQ has delayed the release of Saints Row 2 by two months due to product quality and marketing considerations.
The game will now be released on October 14 instead of August 26, meaning it will miss the publisher's fiscal second quarter.
THQ is counting on Saints Row 2 and Red Faction Guerilla to be sales drivers during the current fiscal year after failing to meet its revenue and profit targets during the financial year ended March 31, 2008.
Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, told Reuters that Saints Row 2's delay will not affect the company's financial outlook for its 2009 fiscal year.
Saints Row 2 is the sequel to 2006's Xbox 360 exclusive Saints Row, a wholly owned THQ intellectual property which sold over a million units. Developed by Volition, the open world action series offers a free-roaming experience in the Grand Theft Auto mold.
Good thing - the bugs it had in the latest build sounded pretty hefty.
Just a note to all the fanboys: Please calm yourselves before posting. Not only did GTA IV take most of the original Saints Row's gameplay features, but Saints Row 2 already has more functionality than GTA IV has.
GTA IV certainly beats out Saints Row in the story and character department, but Saints Row is 100% pure fun. While GTA took many steps back with it's 4th iteration, Saints Row 2 still rushes forward with things sandbox games have never done.
Delayed due to the developers having played GTA and now considering an engine rebuild.
Why would they? Saints Row has a completely different style, its heavily focused on customisation, it has a lot more mini-games and gameplay functions...
I love how the GTA fanboys rip Saints Row without having ever played it. GTA IV is out. It's been out for weeks. Do you think thats it? Do you think people should never buy another Sandbox game again?
Let me say it again. GTA IV is not original. Not in the slightest. 90% of it's 'new' functions were present (and they originated) in the original Saints Row.

Do your research before slagging everything off.
It was just a sarcastic quip...take the pills ffs!
I personally thought that saints row was equally "unoriginal". GTA invented the whole sandbox genre, so technically as the daddy of snadbox and the original, then technically saints row is a poor mans copy.
I'm not a fanboy, i'm a dev, and saints row is not on par with GTA in any terms.
I don't work for any games company. Also, you being a dev has nothing to do with it, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to proclaim that - whether its true or not.
Being a race driver doesnt make you the be-all and end-all of racing knowledge, with everybody taking your word as fact. It doesnt work like that. It's called having an opinion.
Anyway what exactly are these terms you speak of? Gameplay wise, Saints Row 2 has a huge lead on GTA IV. It's not an opinion, it's pretty much fact due to the amount of things taken OUT of GTA IV compared to something like San Andreas.
You may prefer to play GTA - thats an opinion and nothing can stop you thinking that. But I'm not talking about what you personally prefer, I'm talking what each game allows you to do. Saints Row 2 offers much more than GTA IV (and I'm only going on what they've told us so far, there could be even more left unannounced) other than a decent story and voice acting.
I don't care that GTA 'invented' the sandbox genre, that has nothing to do with anything. I don't see everybody saying Half Life is just a clone of Wolfenstein 3D. Which is basically is. Like every FPS is.
Why should the sandbox genre be any different?
Saints Row may have taken the 'GTA formula' but, certainly in my opinion, it did a lot more with it than Rockstar have ever dared to.
Moving away from the brewing argument, there's gonna be a HELL of a lot of games coming out around the time this is released. Looks like it's gonna be a groovy Christmas.
Agreed. Even just this month is crazy for me... I'm glad Rockband is so ridiculously expensive, otherwise I'd have that plus Ninja Gaiden 2 and Alone in the Dark to play.
And on top of that I'm still trying to get my character to level 60 in Mass Effect, god I love that game. Only 3 more to go!

Saints Row is a good game but it doesnt come close to what Rockstar have achieved with Grand Theft Auto.
San Andreas for example,Rockstar done a lot of daring with that title didnt they, from the bikes to the jetpack, crammed full of ideas.
while this is a completely different game style to GTA inevitably comparisons will be made. The first SR was fortunate to appear in huge time chasm between GTASA and IV. If SR2 is not at the top of its sandbox over-the-top cartoonish game then its going to get panned.
And I liked the original as a bit of a laugh, but it doesn't hold a candle to the story of GTAIV

We're not talking as a whole series. Of course Rockstar have achieved more if you want to go into that - they've sold more, have had more success etc - which you should expect from the people who first created the genre.
San Andreas for example,Rockstar done a lot of daring with that title didnt they, from the bikes to the jetpack, crammed full of ideas.
This is my point though. Where are those in GTA IV? Why take such a huge step back? This is one of the main things that puts GTA IV miles behind Saints Row 2.
GTA IV is comparable to GTA III in terms of gameplay elements. Why get rid of planes, push-bikes, jetpack, car customisation etc? I understand why they'd take out stats, but the rest? It makes no sense and shouldnt be forgiven when Saints Row 2 does all that and more.
Your wrong xbob and you know it
Still waiting for the proof.. Nobody seems to be able to point out why I'm 'wrong' about this. It always comes back to people telling me GTA was first therefore its the best. Its simply not the case.
Yeah because before GTA IV there was GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City, GTA: Vice City Stories, GTA III, GTA II, GTA London, GTA, True Crime: Streets of LA, Saints Row, Driver, True Crime and many many more.
90% of it's 'new' functions were present (and they originated) in the original Saints Row.
Yeah I have to admit, until I played Saints Row I had never even heard of the Internet and I received quite a shock when I connected to it and played a most enjoyable 'online' game against some nice 12 year olds who called me a 'Fag' and a 'noob' I was most touched by their friendliness.
As was said; saints row was good as a go between whilst the new gta was yet to surface.
I cannot see how this will be better then GTA, in any way or form. SA got slated for too many things to do and being a bit wackey... saints row 2 expanding on that isn't necessarily a good thing.
As for me proclaiming i am a dev, i am not proclaiming it, it is true. My point was that i am not looking at both games through rose tinted glasses as a fanboy would, i am looking at technical achievements and the structure of the games (saints row 1 and what i have heard of 2) and i am comparing the too directly.
Yes its my opinion, but its an educated one. Thats what i am saying. And based on that, saints row doesn't come close to gta in any way or form, other then expanding on a formula rocksar tested and found didn't work.
Mr X i think you need to chill out a bit, theres a bit of passive aggressiveness in your messages.
yeah im p**sed that Rockstar dropped elements like the camera, samurai swords, chainsaws, tanks and fun cheats.. but i'd bet my house that GTA4'S liberty city is 10x's more immersive and unrepetative than anything Saints row did or that its sequal brings.
GTA4'S liberty city is 10x's more immersive and unrepetative
Unrepetative? You're serious? You're talking about a GTA game. All of the missions have been the same in every game other than the odd few that took advantage of the physicis in GTA IV...
The mission titles and story may change, but the gameplay is always the same. Kill this guy at this place, loose your wanted level. Pick this person up and drop them off, kill whoever appears. etc.
MrXBob, you talk about how having an opinion is fine. However it seems that if that opinion does not match yours then it is wrong. You may love SR (i'm happy for you) but just because some people disagree with your opinions about the game and the genre is no reason to be so defensive or offensive.
In reply to your statement about Rockstar taking such a step back for GTAIV, i am pretty sure that they wanted it to be a far more realistic experience; Jetpacks and the Rampages and stuff aren't too realistic, nor would they fit in with Niko's character or storyline.
I played saints row and didnt like it tbh, i always felt the "gangsta" setting copied that of GTA:SA and the reason bikes n car modding were dropped were because of Xbox disk space (before you start calling me a fanboy just note i have all three next gen consoles cause im into games like that ) anyway they may have copied ideas from saints row but theyre more functional in GTAIV, maybe bikes n stuff will appear in the DLC as long as some more missions. ........waits with baited breath
