Age of Conan tops GTA IV in Europe

Funcom MMO kicks Rockstar off top spot in Germany and Sweden
If there's any game likely to remove GTA IV from the top of the German charts, it's a PC game, and Age of Conan has gone and done it.

Funcom's Hyborian Adventures went and nabbed the number one chart slot from Rockstar in both Germany and Sweden, sending GTA IV to number two in the territories.

In the UK, GTA IV still reigns supreme, with Conan sitting pretty in number two.

In Spain though, both Conan and GTA failed to reach the top spot; Wii Play took instead. Girls: stop buying it!

A strong performance is expected from the head-chopping MMO, with Funcom already reporting that it's been unable to fulfil all pre-orders for the game (we bet most of them come from Germany).

It came out in the UK last week. Our boys (i.e. PC Zone) are currently playing through it, and you'll have the review shortly.

Everybody is bored of GTA4 now.

Gta4 was never more than a bit of fun for a few hours I got it 5 days before most people on here and I'm at 11%. I'm not keen on mmorpgs when you must pay full price for the game and 5 quid a month to play the game I've played guildwars on and off 3 years sure now its getting a bit boring but its still fun when with a group of friends.

Age of conan sounds fun...but playing more than one MMO can be pricey, especially because of the subscription fees. Sorry but i think i'll wait for Warhammer.

The real test for AoC will be whether that many people will continue paying the nine quid p/month after the first thirty days. The game's pretty average so I sure as hell know I won't be.
Harusivter on 31 May '08
TBF, everyone in Germany will have imported their copy of GTA IV (on PS3 at least) because of the heavy censoring.
NG_21 on 31 May '08
don't think aoc is actually that good tbh, its got many fundamental flaws that i feel will hold it back.
Its very pricey in subscription fees (more expensive than its main competitor in wow). Also you cant pay by debit cards so the many maestro/solo card users in the uk will have to buy game cards every 60 days which is annoying to say the least.
Also the pvp servers are populated by hundreds of ganking morons who think that just because it is a pvp server that its ok to camp people at respawn points and being as the game is completely free for all pvp on these servers just trying to do a simple quest turns into a mammoth task that takes 30 mins because some idiot 10 levels higher than you is killing you for fun.....

however im sure the mature content will be enough for the game to have decent sized player base, but as the new expansion for warcraft appears i feel many will go back to wow.

this is just about how some games sell 90% of their copies in the first 10 days, and GTA IV is one of those.

Yep.

*Checks how long San Andreas was in the charts*
