Despite the drastic new art style and dark themes of recent trailers for the new Prince of Persia, producer Ben Mattes says that it won't alienate fans of the much-respected last-gen trilogy.
When asked if radical changes may alienate loyal fans, Mattes told CVG: "I would bet my job that the answer is no. You've seen some dark stuff because that's kind of what we want to show you at the start, but more than anything before this is the spiritual successor to the Sands of Time."
He went on to explain: "There's tons of platforming and there's that mystical theme that was so critical in Sands of Time. If anything I think we'll see the fans that lapsed after Sands of Time come back."
That said, Mattes also reckons Warriors Within fans'll be pleased too. "The people who liked the edgier stuff in Warrior Within we'll hopefully come back as well, because we've got that."
Sands of time is one of my favourite games, however i am slightly worried that this game wont follow on from what SOT did, i hope he's right as it would make for a fantastic game.
I have learned from many interviews this gen that what people say and what you get is in most cases completely different.PoP was one of my faviourite games last gen but if you look at games which have been so hyped up(heavenly sword, assassins creed,haze,pes200which is just a few,Im no longer getting excited until I have played the game.
From what we know so far, this is probably the most far away from Sands of Time yet. It's dark, it's free roaming, it's got no sands of time, it's cell shaded.
My take: the art style looks great. The screenshots I've seen on IGN make it look like it could be a proper, epic Arabian Nights tale. Which is perfect - that's exactly the feel I got from Sands of Time.
But he says the fans who lapsed after SoT should be on board with this one, then says they've kept some of the Warrior Within style. Surely that's a contradiction in itself?
